Chinese Police Clash With Thousands Protesting Draconian Zero-Covid Lockdowns

by Toby Young
27 November 2022 2:59 PM

Chinese police have clashed with thousands protesting the country’s draconian Covid restrictions as unprecedented civil unrest gripped the nation. MailOnline has more.

Demonstrations erupted in at least seven cities – including Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou – with violence breaking out between local cops and furious protesters.

The largest demonstration appeared in Shanghai – home to 26 million residents – with many boldly demanding President Xi Jinping resign.

Officers used pepper spray against about 300 protesters, according to a witness, but western journalists reported the numbers to be in the thousands.

Meanwhile last night hundreds gathered to mourn the deaths of at least 10 people in an apartment fire last week in Urumqi in the Xinjiang region, where residents were sealed in their buildings to try to stop the spread of Covid.

It comes amid China launching another mass crackdown on the virus with crippling lockdowns put in place across the country, nearly three years after the pandemic started there.

The nation reported another 39,791 new cases spread across the country – the biggest one-day increase on record – including a record 4,307 in Beijing alone.

But it appears ill-equipped for the latest battle with Covid, with it using its own vaccines, rather than approved foreign ones, which do not have the same effectiveness at beating back the virus.

Public fury forced authorities in the far western Xinjiang region to open up parts of the capital Urumqi, which has been subject to a punishing ‘Zero-Covid’ lockdown for more than three months.

Witnesses said one of the protests also occurred in Urumqi where the fire occurred after complaints it worsened the death toll.

The protest was triggered by the deaths of at least 10 people in a fire at a high-rise apartment block. Some have claimed lockdown measures hampered rescue efforts and the ability of residents to escape.

Footage posted online showed hundreds of demonstrators confronting riot police on the streets of Urumqi, where many of the four million residents have been barred from leaving their homes for as long as 100 days.

President Xi Jinping´s Government faces mounting anger at its ‘Zero-Covid’ policy that has shut down access to areas throughout China in an attempt to isolate every case at a time when other governments are easing controls and trying to live with the virus.

Worth reading in full.

Stop Press: Protests continued on Sunday evening. The FT has more. In addition, the Telegraph reports that the protests have spread to Wuhan as protesters pull down Covid-quarantine barricades and march through the city chanting “we want freedom!”, ignoring orders to show their health passes (watch here). Meanwhile, last night a BBC journalist covering the protests in Shanghai was arrested, thrown to the ground and beaten and kicked by the Chinese police. MailOnline has more.

Exactly! How can Daily Sceptic reproduce such utter nonsense and then say “Worth reading in full”?

I don’t want the Daily Sceptic to start cancelling or censoring articles just because there are things in it which you or I or the Daily Sceptic doesn’t agree with.

Take out the comma in the middle and it makes more sense:

…rather than approved foreign ones which do not have the same effectiveness at beating back the virus.

BINGO. Maybe the author intended that to be the esoteric meaning.

Words will fail the idiots who write this garbage when the virus “rips” through China and few people die.

They’ll struggle to find an explanation. Because they’re effing idiots.

China may well be the nation that brought us all this misery and also dismantled the whole covid lockdown mask and vaccine fantasy.

Odd that this is the lead story on the BBC and Telegraph websites, and presumably elsewhere.

Why? What’s the agenda?

I don’t trust anything from this lot any more.

For the BBC, if it’s hundreds demonstrating against the Chinese government, it’s a story. If it’s tens of thousands in Britain protesting against lockdowns (and the BBC) it is to be ignored. It is hard to exaggerate how much the “impartial” BBC despise us.

A silly question maybe, but will Sino Sunak issue a statement condemning the serious human rights abuses inherent in the Chinese Communist Party’s bonkers “zero covid” policy?

“Protests continued on Sunday evening. The FT has more. The Telegraph reports that the protests have spread to Wuhan as protesters pull down Covid-quarantine barricades and march through the city chanting “we want freedom!”, ignoring orders to show their health passes”

Too early to call a Berlin Wall moment maybe, but there are definite echoes of it there (or at least the protests they had at the student accommodation in Manchester!). Wir sind das Volk!

Good, I hope the Chinese people rip down their rotten state and put all the CCP leaders on trial and show our own globalist barstewards exactly what fate awaits them. It only needs every Chinese city to take back control. Mind you, those Chinese police and the massive Chinese People’s Liberation Army could be used by the state to suppress its citizens still further. Kind of makes you wonder what exactly the country of China and the Chinese state is for if it’s not about making the lives of its citizens happier and more prosperous. Anyway, Xi (who must be obeyed) ‘JinJin’ JinPing has such a massive security apparatus in place that unless the protests link up and are organised in some way, they’ll fail.

Who do you disbelieve/ mistrust the most – China or the democratic West?

Pre covid for me it was China. mainly because of the West’s peerless fearless investigative journalism which would doubtless have found out any covid/co2/Ukraine/TRPTB con..

Any semblance of trust I ever had for the MSM, experts, especially of the medical/virological/immunological went about 3 years ago.

The West will never fall for China’s covid scam again.
They must think we’re mugs……

If they think that the majority of the population are mugs, it is only because they’ve demonstrated themselves to be mugs over and over again.

Hard to imagine, even knowing china’s reputation for poor manufacturing quality, that they could produce worse vaccines than the ones made in the West.

Zero Covid fanatics in China will be caught on the horns of a dilemma. Maintain restrictions & protests grow. Relax restrictions & the population see what a paper tiger covid is, everyone gets it, no one’s ill. Then the people realise they’ve been locked up for 3 years for no reason.

They’ll let them all out and then machine gun us with fake reports and videos of thousands of Chinese people falling down dead in the streets and then vomit this all over their population through the fake news system.

I’m sorry but hundreds or even thousands of people protesting in a large Chinese city means nothing anybody who wasn’t specifically looking for this would have noticed happened. There are a real lot of people living very densely together in China.

And what was that about using vaccines to beat back the virus, something Western countries reportedly succeeded at (as reported here) due to their very much superior vaccines? That was the story which was supposed to unfold when vaccination of the specially vulnerable started in December 2020. If Corona’s witnesses had had their way back then, we wouldn’t have come out of lockdown in July 2021 and would long since all have been repeatedly locked down again. Not much beating back with vaccines in that.

Our future won’t be so very different – if the Globalist authoritarians wanting a digital currency, “vaccine passports” and a social credit control system get their way.

Fight back now, before violence is the ONLY way.

“with thousands protesting the country’s draconian Covid restrictions as unprecedented civil unrest gripped the nation.”

“Officers used pepper spray against about 300 protesters, according to a witness, but western journalists reported the numbers to be in the thousands.”

Based upon the track record of so called Western “journalists” who apparently “reported the numbers to be in the thousands”.

Relative to the size of the population; I would suggest the numbers are more likely to be in their millions. We’ll never know the truth unless they are successful in their endeavours to free themselves from their confinement and usurp the despots forcing their imprisonment or, we are able to access spy sat data somehow. [sarc]

Anyone on here believe anything that has been reported by Western so called “journalists” from any MSM platform in the last couple of years, plus?

IMHO you’ll only get the truth now if you can see it with your own eyes and even then…
