Civil servants are being taught that Britain is a “racist” country and that white officials should never contradict people from ethnic minorities. The Telegraph has more.
A training video for civil servants at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, which is in charge of race relations, said white civil servants should be aware of their “privilege”.
It urges white people to become “allies” of ethnic minorities by standing up for them, telling officials: “When we become an ally, this primarily means acknowledging that we, ourselves, are part of a society, norm, culture or a system that is racist.”
And it said white allies should be a “supporter”, meaning they “listen and do not contradict” ethnic minority people.
The existence of the video has caused consternation in some parts of Whitehall, with one Government source saying civil servants were being “brainwashed” to believe “divisive nonsense”.
The source said: “The civil service is running a parallel policy to the Government on diversity and inclusion in the name of social justice.
“The term white privilege has no place in Government. This divisive nonsense is designed to brainwash thousands of civil servants with an ideological agenda.”
The video on “allyship” is designed to teach civil servants about “what it means to be a race ally”.
It was uploaded on to the department’s website in 2019, when it was known as the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
It said: “For many of us who are white or white passing, meaning that we are often identified as white in public spaces, the colour of our skin, our race or ethnicity has not had a negative impact on our lives. We call this ‘white privilege’.
“You may experience many other struggles and challenges through life, but they are very unlikely to be related to your race. Because of this, adding your voice to anti-racism can help to amplify your message, support your colleagues, and give them time to heal and recover from a fight they’ve been having for their entire lives, often for generations.”
It goes on: “You are an ally if you believe that people who are from an ethnic minority face discrimination and can be socially and economically disadvantaged at work. And that ethnic minority colleagues should enjoy full equality.
“In the workplace, 70 per cent of ethnic minority workers say they have experienced racial harassment in the last five years. This can be challenged when colleagues, managers and clients visibly support a more inclusive workplace.
“White allies can provide a louder and sometimes more impactful voice than those in other communities. They are more likely to be believed when discussing these issues, enabling them to effectively increase awareness of racism among colleagues who might not ordinarily engage.
“Becoming a great ally means that we spend some time learning and unlearning some of our own behaviours. When we become an ally, this primarily means acknowledging that we, ourselves, are part of a society, norm, culture or a system that is racist.”
The training urges allies to act as “cheerleaders” by “shifting the spotlight on to a person of colour”.
“When talking about issues that concern them, try to defer to them, supporting them to field relevant questions,” it says.
They should act as an “amplifier” by “amplifying ethnic minority voices that ordinarily go unnoticed”.
“When a person of colour’s ideas are being overlooked, call it out or repeat it,” it says. “Credit the person and share it to those in positions of influence or power.”

How many consecutive years of “conservative” government have we had? Is this what Tory voters voted for?
What does that have to do with it?
The country is run by an unelected establishment.
Elections are only there to stop the population grumbling by making them think what is being done is the will of the majority.
And they produce endless opinion polls now too. Elections every 4 years isn’t quite doing the trick any more.
What it has to do with it is that if conservatives stopped voting Conservative and voted where they could for parties on the political right that are actually conservative, we MAY one day get some actual conservatives representing us in Parliament. This is Peter Hitchens’ theory, not mine, but I think it has some merit. Goodness knows what we’ve had so far isn’t working.
I’m well aware of the power of the Establishment – but it may not yet be immovable. Brexit may be an example of that – maybe the only recent one.
I think that is near impossible for two reasons.
1. It’s basically impossible for a party that is not Labour or Conservative to win an election here. The system is completely rigged so maintain that duopoly.
2. If by some miracle another party run by people not beholden to the system were to break through, they would collide head on with an unmovable establishment.
There are plenty o recentf examples around the world of so called “populists” being elected and ultimately being defeated by their bureaucracies. And the UK establishment bureaucracy is perhaps one of the most powerful in the world.
I think we’ll get to the end of all this madness sooner if we accept we don’t live in a free democracy, stop participating altogether in the charade they’ve set up and just withdraw all cooperation.
I’m sure the challenge is very great, but Brexit shows it is possible.
If enough people stop voting Conservative and vote for actual conservative parties where they can or spoil their ballot papers, it might work. Meantime we continue to try to persuade people in other ways and chip away in whatever way we can.
I’m not expecting salvation via the ballot box, but neither do I think we should completely ignore that avenue. My original point I suppose would be better aimed at those who continue to vote Conservative thinking they will get a conservative government, or because they are a less bad option (which they are, IMO) than the others. Probably not many people in that category would be reading comments on DS.
All true, but it is possible for an independent party to cause enough damage – especially if it makes inroads into a major party’s core vote – to force it to reform or lose an election. It looks like this could be where we’re heading.
Though this assumes winning or losing elections means anything to the political class any more.
We have not had a conservative government since at least the year Mrs Thatcher was deposed. The Conservative Party distorts politics by the use of that name as much as Labour (which is certainly not interested in the workers) and the farcically named Liberal Democrats.
Labour is named Labour because it’s the overtly political arm of the trade unions. That’s something not-so-subtly different from interested in working class people, especially today, when most actual workers are not unionized and the influential unions mostly just represent public sector employees.
Replace “ally” with “master” and suddenly you see what this is really about.
If I was a member of a so-called “ethnic minority” in this country, I would feel patronised, offended and angry that the establishment is telling everyone I can’t stand on my own two feet and that I need a “white ally” to constantly stand over me.
“Racism isn’t dead, but it is on life support, kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and those who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as racist.”
Thomas Sowell
We are all members of minorities in one way or another.
“If I was a member of a so-called “ethnic minority” in this country, I would feel patronised, offended and angry that the establishment is telling everyone I can’t stand on my own two feet and that I need a “white ally” to constantly stand over me.”
With you on that 100%. The people in the establishment are WAY more racist than “ordinary” folk.

This is my take.
Do white Europeans have privilege? Yes of course they do. Since the 1400’s, Europe has driven humanity forward in almost any area you can look at. Engineering, manufacturing, medicine, arts and philosophy, literature and music. Some of this was done with the benefits of slavery, but not so much. Some of it was done by enforcing one-sided trading relationships with other countries, but not so much. The over-whelming source of ‘privilege’ is from the sacrifices of our forebears who lived short and rotten lives to try and make something better for the next generation. And they succeeded to provide a world for us of abundance and comfort.
So, now, should we feel ashamed that we have created all of these things, while half of Africa still doesn’t have clean drinking water..? Well, we pay an extraordinary amount in foreign aid which could in 2 years, by my calculation, give clean water and sanitation to all. Sadly it ends up being filched off by NGO’s into AK47’s and Mercedes Benz, and the Presidents Swiss bank account, but the money is given, and its not our problem what it gets spent on.
Should we welcome one and all to come and enjoy the fruits of the last 6 centuries sacrifice..? I think so, but to people who can help us to grown and develop further. People with educations and skills, who will have jobs, and pay their taxes, and make a contribution to our society. Should we feel bad about not taking all comers. Certainly not, in fact we should even feel bad about taking the skilled and educated people out of developing countries where they are needed the most.
What we should feel worst about is that we (the WEF clique) are by their weird ideology, actively denying Africa the opportunity to develop economically as Europe has done. Why are we actively imposing the Climate nonsense on them when they need to move not from fossil fuels to nuclear, but from dung and wood to fossil fuels. All the technology is there, cheap and available. They have the resources. Why are we stopping them.? More economic development means less pollution, people living better lives, with fewer children and greater affluence. West European development is a powerful example of how to improve the world, not a source of eternal shame. They should be sharing in that progress, making their own progress, but that’s not how it works.
In the last 20 years, we have succeeded in lifting 1.5bn people out of absolute poverty, but the drive to shame us, and write-down the value that our forbears have given us will surely put 1.5bn back into absolute poverty.
When I see that idiot Biden, trotting out the ‘existential threat of climate change’ line, I wonder who is stupid enough to to take it all at face value. Sadly it seems to be lots and lots of people. But then George Carlin once said ‘Image how stupid the average person is. Then realise that for them to be the average, half of everyone else has to be even more stupid.’
Indeed. Utter madness, as is pursuing equality of outcome. It will end badly. It is ending badly.
Equality of outcome is just a smokescreen. What these people really mean is More government money and privileges for us!
And often “these people” are not the alleged victims of discrimination, but privileged “do gooders” who make a living out of the grievance industry.
I think there are people who do believe in equality of outcome – it’s a form of madness. More worryingly, saying openly you don’t believe in it is more and more going to get you into trouble.
I prefer to say simply that, “Life isn’t fair, and nobody is going to make it fair for you. Get over it! Be tough, life is!”
But obviously, because my skin is more towards white than black, my life cannot possibly be really tough and certainly nowhere near as unfair.

Poor people have to be maintained in a state of poverty in order to continue enriching those already enriched beyond any definition of greed and avarice.
I absolutely love it when all these people with their unquestioningly English accents and their voting right can’t really agree with each other about whether or not some subset of them is really disenfranchised.
Anecdote which has to be told here: I’m German and that I’m not English is immediately evident once I open my mouth. People who have no idea how a German accent sounds usually think that I must be Polish and that’s obviously bad. Some years ago, in a local nightclub (which is a gay bar in all but the name but I didn’t know this at that time — it’s in Gun Street, BTW :->) I had an encounter with a bunch of juvenile toffs. One of them tried to forcibly hug me. I absolutely hate this, hence, I pushed his hand away. This lead to a verbal altercation during which he noticed my foreign accent. He then very pointedly said “That’s [forcing strange people into hugs] how we do things in England.” I simply ignored him which he apparently didn’t like at all. He tried to provoke me into something by yelling all kinds of abuse at me and making a couple of obscene gestures towards me. As I still ignored him, he finished the show by throwing his drink at me. That was a bit rich, hence, I stepped over to him and slowly and methodically poured my pint over his head. While he was ducking away from that, one of his pals knocked the glasses from my head from behind. As I really need these, I instantly knelt down in the hope to revocer them (couldn’t see anything, though). That was a mistake, not the least because the guy had immediately stepped onto them. I was then groping around the floor while this very brave and marvellous fellow kept kicking me in the head. This he continued until security dragged him through the door. He managed another kick against my head in passing and was then gone again.
I challenge every But I’m so disenfranchised that I always have to vote Labour! BLM supporter to come up with a comparable experience. Not holding my breath, though.
But you’re white (I presume)! So your experience isn’t really that bad. It can’t be.
I’m a foreigner and easily recognizable as such. And some people really don’t like foreigners (the above was arguably the most gross event fired by that, but there have been quite a few more).
NB: In my opinion, stuff like this happens when encountering dickheads and they’re wont to find something they’re unhappy with. It’s not a systemic effect. I just wanted to point out that other characteristics beyond skin colour which are equally impossible to hide also mark people as members of some other group which isn’t exactly universally loved.
