Sweden Was Right to Avoid Lockdowns But Wrong Not to Impose Restrictions and Masks Sooner, Inquiry Concludes

by Will Jones
26 February 2022 7:00 AM

Sweden’s official inquiry into its handling of the pandemic is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it comes out firmly against lockdowns – understood as stay-at-home orders – and affirms the decision not to close schools. On the other hand, it criticises the Government for not being quicker to restrict indoor meeting spaces such as shops and restaurants, to bring in masks, and for relying too much on the advice of its Public Health Agency, including Anders Tegnell, the State Epidemiologist – despite it being his advice to swim against the flow and resist lockdown. The Telegraph has the story.

Recurring lockdowns imposed across Europe to curb COVID-19 were neither “necessary” nor “defensible”, Sweden’s official inquiry into its handling of the pandemic has concluded.

In its final report, the country’s Coronavirus Commission strongly supported Sweden’s pandemic strategy, concluding that the decision to rely primarily on “advice and recommendations which people were expected to follow voluntarily” had been “fundamentally correct”.

The decision not to impose mandatory restrictions meant that Swedes “retained more of their personal freedom than in many other countries,” the report concludes.

In addition, the commission writes that it is “not convinced that extended or recurring mandatory lockdowns, as introduced in other countries, are a necessary element in the response to a new, serious epidemic outbreak”.

Several countries which did impose lockdowns, it notes, had “significantly worse outcomes” than Sweden, while the restriction of individual freedom was “hardly defensible other than in the face of very extreme threats”.

So far so good. But it goes on to say that measures were “too few and should have come sooner”.

While the report’s authors said Sweden’s government was right to not shut primary and lower secondary schools during the pandemic, they wrote that other “indoor settings where people gather or come into close contact” should have been restricted.

These include shopping centres, restaurants, cultural and sports events, hairdressing salons, and swimming pools.

The commission also argues that face masks should have been encouraged in public places as soon as they were no longer in short supply, that the government should have stopped all inessential inward travel in March 2020, and that those returning from ski trips at the end of February should have been asked to quarantine.

The report is also critical of the way the government delegated responsibility to the Public Health Agency, its then Director-General Johan Carlson, and State Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

“The Government should have assumed leadership of all aspects of crisis management from the outset,” it rules. “It should have been able to overcome the obstacles to clear national leadership that currently exist.”

Sweden’s Health Minister Lena Hallengren welcomed the commission’s conclusions, though rejected the charge of over-reliance on the Public Health Agency:

They can have their opinion about that. But the fact is, that the Public Health Agency is not one expert, it’s hundreds of experts. It would be very strange if I, as Health Minister, or the Government, relied on specific or unique experts instead of this very big expert authority.

In Sweden’s case the Government is being criticised for listening too closely to its anti-restriction Public Health Agency. It’s not hard to imagine that in the U.K. the official inquiry will criticise the Government for not listening enough to its pro-restriction advisers. The common theme will be not imposing enough restrictions fast enough – the opposite of the right lesson.

The acknowledgement that lockdowns are unnecessary and indefensible is welcome. The conclusion that, nonetheless, more should have been done, contradicts the first and is hard to understand. The danger is now that severe deprivation of civil liberties will become normalised as the right response to a public health threat, to be imposed speedily, despite the evidence-base for these measures being just as poor, indeed worse, now than when they were rejected prior to COVID-19.

Well isn’t restricting indoor spaces and travel and making people quarantine just another variety of lockdown? As for masks, as we know they are just a means of instilling fear and measuring compliance. Clearly a political decision, firmly based in the Big Lie that covid was exceptional. If Sweden can’t shake this nonsense out of its system then there’s little hope for most of the rest of the world, with the possible exception of some Republican-run US states.

The mad, pernicious fantasy/pretence that some magical cocktail of government measures could somehow make a meaningful difference to the course of a respiratory virus like this one.

I read one paper early on that was comparing viral loads, the chuck up was that you had to spend ~3 hours in an enclosed space with someone with symptomatic infection to get enough exposure to get enough viral load to catch the Rona.

Another paper compared T cells in plasma to specific epitopes in non symptomatic frequently exposed Hostpital Workers, and non symptomatics people in mixed households with symptomatics (unjabbed Vs jabbed too). The chuck up was the unjabbed had a wider ranging T-cell response to all the structural proteins of the Rona (i.e. natural immunity) it compared the types of T-cells jabbed Vs un-Jabbed, the unjabbed had a higher response that covered a wider range of structural proteins, there was hardly any natural response to the non structural (i.e. spike) proteins, it seems natural immunity targets the epitopes that are highly conserved (i.e. those that don’t change).

Evolution tunes the immune response to those epitopes that are highly conserved across a wide variety of viruses (those that don’t change) and pretty much ignores non structural proteins (like the spike). This is exactly the same in ALL mamals.

My reading of this, assuming you are healthy with no co-morbidities, is that it’s best to get naturally exposed in low viral load environments/situations, to get enough virus to train your innate immune system, without getting enough viral load all at once that it overloads your innate immue response leading to a symptomatic infection. This is especially important for children, who have a much higher number of immature T-cells waiting to be trained.

In light of that, lockdowns are a ridiculous idea, closing schools is a ridiculous idea, reducing or limiting indoor events to <1hour could have been a better idea, as would keeping windows etc. open like they used to do in pre-vaccine times in hospitals.

If you’d like a good presentation on this biology and immunology, with the references, JC Couey (Neuro Biologist and original DRASTIC founder member) did an excellent immunology 101 stream covering all this and more recently, he’s been doing these streams for ~18 months now, so he’s got very good at presenting the releveant information really well, covering a lot of ground in a relatively short time.

It’s a 2 hour stream, but if you’re short of time the last 40mins after the GVB interview is the really important immunology 101 section, wakling us through a narutal infection and natural immune response, compared to a vaccine induced immune response he really is on fire with this stuff, can’t recomend highly enough.

Biology is our way out of the big pharma immuno-mythology, if everyone knew this stuff we’d all be pointing and laughing at “The $cience” and the gov sponsored TV talking heads, they would never have been able to get away with the pseudo-pandemic in the first place.

Stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1406933155

And still they have missed the point that there is no evidence Sweden would have been any better off with masks and indoor space restrictions. Science likes comparative studies and we can see Countries with a whole range of different restrictions and compare them with Sweden. It is impossible to tell which is which.

i think there is a Loonivirus on the loose.

They haven’t ”missed the point”, surely? The point is that they WANT to keep a boot in the door (or on people’s necks) so that so-called restrictions can be brought back at a moment’s notice. It’s deliberate manipulation.

To visit someone in hospital local to where I live – LFT before you visit and produce proof of it. Proof at least double vaccinated. On arrival must wear a surgical mask, and will be supplied with plastic apron and vinyl gloves. Only one designated visitor allowed and must be the same person each time. Appointments in advance and only an hour each visit. Have fun with that nonsense!

@Olaffreya – Which country is this in? And does that apply to all hospitals? So the “unvaccinated” aren’t allowed to visit people in any kind of hospital?? Sounds like the authorities are running hospitals like prisons.

What happens when an “unvaccinated” person needs hospital treatment?

I had to go in the UK (East mids) a few months back, they asked me if I was jabbed in the ambulance, but all they said when I told them no was “They won’t like that in there” but nobody inside said anything about it, they gave me a mask but I didn’t put it on, nobody mentioned that either.

I’ve just managed to get a dentist appt (20 day lead time) they phoned to remind me and asked about symptoms/vax status, I said “I caught it early on, so I’ve got Natural Immunity, Doc said I didn’t need the vax” receptionist said “OK I just have to put that in the system, see you on Monday”

Yes – you make an important point. The purpose for which lockdowns, masks, etc., have been mandated is not the declared purpose.

Critics should be very careful before deciding that the rulers are being stupid. The guys in the middle, petty administrators and GPs and “experts” and what have you, are mostly as thick as two short planks, venal, and confident that they are such a big cut above the hoi polloi that whatever boll*cks they are being told that week is some kind of esoteric truth. They’re proud to do their bit in bullsh*tting. so long as they keep their privileges. But never mind them. The actual elite are generally speaking not stupid at all.

“The actual elite are generally speaking not stupid at all.”

I disagree. To a man this lot get by on swagger, hubris and a certain deferment we feel is due their position. What they try to pass off as intelligence is simply street smart thinking.

Jabbit v the Dr (apologies for not remembering his name) is a case in point. Jabbit had no answers, all he could do was spout palpable nonsense, bluster and run.

Or look at Trudeau and Freyland in Canada. It appears the Davos Deviants were apoplectic when these One Worlders froze Bank accounts because it opened eyes to what was going on and started a bank run.

Too many people wrongly conclude that intelligence and stupidity cannot share the same room – they can and do.

The vast majority of people I associate with are degree plus educated but the vast majority are incredibly stupid.

Without a doubt the most cynical and despicable and coercive government policy since WWI. The fact that billions have gone along with this mandate, mostly because they sign up to the voodoo but often because they don’t have the courage to stand out from the group and defend themselves against the inevitably peer pressure and hostility, is truly the most terrifying lesson to be drawn from the last 2 years. If Milgram was alive he’d say, “I told you so!”

Solzhenitsyn wrote about fellow Gulag labour camp inmates who despite all evidence to the contrary were still complete believers in Stalin’s regime. Explaining their own incarceration away as some awful administrative error which will inevitably be corrected. In their own minds they somehow saw themselves as different and above the “others” probably a bit like the fanatical professional class covidians of today.

Here in the US, at Massachusetts General Hospital, birthplace of our current CDC director, they give you a surgical mask to wear as soon as you come in. You could be wearing an N95 or P100 filter, but you still have to ditch it and put on the surgical mask that even the CDC has accepted is close to useless.

And the CDC just released their new threat level guidance plan. The only thing on it is advice to get vaccinated no matter the circumstance and advice to wear a mask indoors when the threat level is “high”.

The masks are just a way to make it look like they are doing something.

Masks are a fetish, so I think there may be a sexual deviancy thing going on here, along with the obsessive compulsive disorder of those doing the ritual hand-sanitising ritual in shop doorways.

It might also be quasi-religious superstition like wearing a clove of garlic round the neck to keep the Devil and vampires away, or tossing a pinch of spilled salt over the left shoulder to ward off bad luck.

When you are cushioned in the arms of Stockholm Syndrome you need to constantly reassure yourself that you are sane while everyone else is mad. Thus most mask-wearers wear them in the bath as well as their bed. It is also a sign of a childhood without love.

Just look at the Climategate inquiries … three separate inquiries … all carefully avoiding any look at the key scientific papers at the heart of the scandal.

It’ll be the same in the UK: a total whitewash, which they will either string out for decades (thus preventing police charges from being brought), or like Climategate they will have a deluge of “inquiries”, but none of them will look at the key issues such as SAGE’s prediction of a June peak.

(proper) Masks do reduce transmission… for about 20 minutes. And then they need throwing away and replacing with entirely new ones. The problem is that if you wear them for much longer than 20 minutes, all you are doing is collecting virus on the mask and then emitting it from the mask in very tiny droplet when you breath out.

So, in a clinical environment – yes. But in the general population … utterly useless.

That’s what a narrative is. A handy, go-to mental script to help avoid the energy expenditure of thinking for yourself.

Through our long history – literally every part of our history – we have never acted as we have in the last two years. And we are still here.

Arguably it is collective amnesia we are seeing. The same thing happens when the BBC tell us this year is the warmest in history, or this winter is the coldest since Roman times etc. None of it is true. But people are happy to accept it because the alternative requires effort.

I think the Swedish king’s December 2020 remarks that their strategy had failed may have had something to do with the change of tact. It encouraged the politicians to put increasing pressure on Tegnell et al.

Sounds remarkably like the initial report published last week by the Dutch corona investigation. It too claims the government relied too much on the Outbreak Management Team. The head of which is now being thrown under the bus. In accordance with all the studies and WHO guidelines, he advised against face rags. From May 2020 on certain politicians put pressure on the OMT to recommend face rags, urging it to come up with (i.e. fabricate) evidence that they worked. After a thorough study, the conclusion remained the same.

In November 2020 the EU tried to grab back much of the power it had lost when every country did its own thing. It recommended universal face rags and night curfews. NL immediately pushed for a night curfew. When Wilders pressed the OMT for the evidence this was based on, he was told it was necessary for people to understand the ‘urgency of the situation’. In December 2020 face rags were imposed, in January 2021 a night curfew – during the approx. 2 months the curfew was in effect, in every briefing they said there was no visible effect in the numbers, but they knew there was one… After curfew was lifted, the now health minister stated categorically there had been zero effect, something they pressured him to retract (he didn’t).

Face rags also made zero difference, but they are now blaming the head of the OMT for undermining the government by saying they didn’t work. I, on the other hand, blame the government for undermining the original experience and science based response, which worked better than anything that came subsequently. But then I am concerned with the fundamental rights and freedoms, the economy and proper medical protocol, not pleasing my overlords in Brussels with an eye on my future political career.

It is no coincidence 2 countries that (originally) had the lightest responses are now being told off – even though a quick look at the Worldometer numbers for corona deaths makes it clear the responses were in fact better than the majority of other countries in the EU.

Average age of death before covid: 83. Average age of death with covid: 83. Age years of life lost = 83-83. The age adjusted death rate in 2020, was lower than every year before 2008. Yet, I cannot remember any of these people demanding masks, the end of human right to freedom, body autonomy and free speech, in all the years before 2008.

Masks serve three purposes:

  1. They help the conformists demonstrate their obedience;
  2. They offer a relatively inexpensive method for government to maintain fear using a visual prop;
  3. They provide a mechanism for us to demonstrate our unwillingness to play along, and a method for people to practice developing assertiveness.

It is point 3 we must focus on. We have full control over our own behaviour, but no one else’s.

As aggravating as the non-existent mask debates are (how much evidence do we need they don’t have any real world effect?) they also represent an opportunity.

For those hesitant to ditch masks, including those in Scotland and other territories where they are still in play, a firm resolve to not wear masks and to deal with the consequences is essential.

By doing so you practice assertiveness, a character trait in short supply. You practice exercising courage, also in short supply. Finally, you provide courage to those who wish to act but conform through fear.

The masks perpetuate a government-induced panic which in turn has encouraged mass hysteria. As Charles Mackay suggested over a century ago, we lose our minds collectively and regain them only one at a time.

Demonstrate the stupidity of all this by resolving to not mask up. You don’t know who is watching and needs your courage.

I don’t wear a mask (I decided to exempt myself), but at the slightest excuse, I sympathise with those who do.

They’re quick to talk about how they hate them, which gives me the chance to talk about the Danish study.

I was sympathetic, but less so now. I draw the line at harassing or condemning people. They can live as they please and their mask wearing doesn’t directly impact me.

But it does indirectly impact us. Decent information on masking and everything else is abundant online. A few searches is all it takes. So what I am worried about is the lack of inquisitiveness. The disinterest in why we would now adopt things like wearing cheap paper facemasks in public. Until two years ago we thought it decidedly odd that societies in the Far East behaved like this.

Given its key role in maintaining a narrative I disagree with, it unfortunately impacts all of us. In Scotland they are desperate to retain masks as a kind of minimal and cheap method to keep the show on the road. None of it based on anything resembling science or data.

I get mightily pissed off at the sight of anybody in a mask. Those bastards are making things worse and if I do get the opportunity I will mention as much.

I was watching some footage from Ukraine last night, a Russian Tank swerved to run over a civillian car, amazingly the old chap inside survived!

What amazed me, besides his amazing survival, was while the good samaritans were trying to free him from the wreckage, at one point he was fiddling with a paper face mask hanging from his ear!

The brainwashing is indeed global.

In the really, really Far East lands of Oz, a good deal of the obedience is based on not wanting to be dragged to the ground by police officers, who then apply a mask with considerable force.

So what I am worried about is the lack of inquisitiveness.

I think inquisitiveness (with a touch of aggro) is a large part of the make-up of the non-compliant.

i suspect that many of the people here are inclined to ask, as a matter of course, “Who says?” and “How do you know?”

(We even occasionally annoy each other by doing so …)

No one challenges masks anymore. If enough people simply say they work despite still no credible evidence that they do it’s as if, like climate change, the science is ‘settled’. Even Talk Radio hosts seem to let the mask issue slide now and seldom, if ever, challenge those who routinely mention them as a key factor in suppressing infection.

Sunk cost fallacy. They’ve invested in it. Individually and as a society. There would need to be another reason to remove them. Covid has been eradicated, for example.

A simpler analysis is people are not good at critical thinking. The best evidence for mask efficacy is something like in ideal laboratory conditions, with specific mask types designed for the task, worn properly and for short periods, they may have the effect of reducing transmission by 1-3%.

The above paragraph is too complex, and too much mental processing, for many. The majority look to others for cues on how to behave in any situation. That’s what herd thinking is.

Sweden played the game with a different twist that’s all..

Their so called ‘experts’ knew exactly what the game was, they just played the hand they were told to play. Just like they are now with implanting chips.. following the script.

As for the ‘pandemic’ nonsense.. enough already.. it was a bug with a 99.8% survival rate.

There never was a pandemic in Sweden.. just like there never was in the UK.

The BIG LIE is that anything other than business as usual occurred and the BIG LIE is that there is a novel virus sweeping the world. These are unsubstantiated unproven false claims. You can easily prove this. Early in the scamdemic, March and April 2020, some of the highest official sources – GOVUK and Professor Ioannidis – widely regarded as one of if not the most senior epidemiologist – both came out with statements that confirm there was nothing but business as usual in terms of mortality. GOVUK downgraded convid due to its supposedly low mortality rates. BUt convid and regular symptoms which have been in circulation for years were lumped together and rebranded as a new illness- voila, CONVID 1984 is born. Now theyre trying to claim it causes all manner of pathologies including heart attacks, another BIG LIE being repeated by this controlled opposition website. Its also a cover story for the illness they have created via the poisonous toxic injections in response to the nonexistent health crisis. They also murdered a bunch of people and called in CONVID – just think of how dumb it is to believe the main storyline of people who have literally murdered patients deliberately to seel their scam and generate fear via fake death tolls. How naive it is to trust those people, the ones with the already proven history for being nothing but lyingn scum.

Below are the sources for this statement, including a published statement confirming the actual mortality rates which never went above normal background noise rates for influenza – which miraculously disappeared off the face of the Earth. So we have nothing but background noise in terms of mortality rates, we have proof that no effect on mortality was observed, the average age of Convid death is above average mortality, they did everything in their power to attriburte caus of death to CONvid and even changed the law on writing death certificates so they could fraudulently insert CONVID on the death certtificate to ramp up the death toll to make it APPEAR that ther was a super killer mega virus, and then they banned autopsies so no-one could ascertain what these people were actually dying of, then we have these liars working on behalf of the criminals running this scam sayin that there was an exceptional event, as you word it, which is also a lie. FUrther down the line 2 years later we are yet to see any verifiable proof of a novel virus and no isoolates have been presented. We have also now got categorical proof that the methods used by virologists to prove the existence and activity of viruses are based on scientific fraud. But you still believe in the bnovel virus line. Seriously, its ridiculous and you people who call yourselves sceptics still toeing this line are helping your enemies to enact new scamdemics, because you keep beleiving their BIG LIE about novel virus even though there is NO PROOF of it.

Given that they have been using an unvalidated test which spews out positives on demand to diagnose COnvid – which is ridiculous considering how this test is being used to transform the world – and given that they now want everyone to believe “IT” came form a weapons lab but IT has produced ZERO effect on mortality and is now openly ADMITTED to be nothing but backgroung noise, dont you think its time to stop regurgitating the BIG LIE about a novel virus until they provide DEFACTO IRREFUTABLE PROOF which silences their biggest critics, Because thats how real science works. This is corporate bullshit science based on lies, and its a real shame that people like you – if you are a genuine commenter which is unknown – keep parroting their main storyline, doing the dirty work of the Nudge Unit and the Crimeocracy

NOTHING BUT BACKGROUND NOISE:

Status of COVID-19
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/high-consequence-infectious-diseases-hcid#status-of-covid-19

As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious disease (HCID) in the UK. There are many diseases which can cause serious illness which are not classified as HCIDs.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

The globalist cabal in the UK are pushing for new vaccines going from drawing board to production in 100 days.
Obviously anything approaching safety testing will not happen.
(Perhaps Neil Ferguson will knock up a computer model to show how safe and effective it all is?)

I can forsee it being standard practice that the WHO will announce a new terrible threat and harsh lockdown will be imposed immediately.

Some computer generated genetic sequence will be fabricated and a new gene therapy injection will be knocked up on the back of that.

The lockdown will continue until after you submit to getting the jab, if you don’t get jabbed you stay in lockdown.

Background info on Sweden:

1) the country is owned by one family, the Wallenbergs [1];

2) the Wallenbergs

a) control the finances,
b) sell a lot of weapons (Bofors),
c) would aim to make loads of money out of Sweden fighting alongside NATO [2] against Russia,
d) run a kind of local mini-imperialism which stretches to some extent into a few neighbouring countries including elsewhere in Scandinavia, Finland, and the Baltic states [3];

3) the Swedish elite pride themselves in having nurtured an exceptionally obedient population.

So when I read that

“the commission writes that it is ‘not convinced that extended or recurring mandatory lockdowns, as introduced in other countries, are a necessary element in the response to a new, serious epidemic outbreak’ “

I wonder what the Swedish elite have heard from their “superiors” about what is coming.

You can bet your bellybutton that WW3 will see the use of bioweapons as well as nukes. Perhaps if reproduction number R is at 30 or 100 no “extended lockdown” would be required?

Note

1) Ask any Swede and they will confirm this.
2) Don’t laugh, but Sweden is officially militarily “neutral”.
3) Ask anyone in, say, Estonia.

Why do you think the Wallenbergs have decided to turn Sweden into a multyculty poo hole?
The Wallenbergs don’t need to divide and conquer their people if their people are super obedient.

The emphasis in the west on multiculturalism does need an explanation. It is universal in our various establishments. But I’ve never understood how they would think it would be beneficial to them, or even neutral. All those low IQ third worlders need colossal levels of support throughout their lives.

I’ve often pondered this. I get that scoundrels exist. But if you really are part of some embedded modern aristocracy what benefit is there to importing millions from an alien culture that struggles to assimilate?

I note there have been calls to change the Swedish flag because it’s Christian origins may offend immigrants. Where does it end?

The aim is One World Government. To achieve this national allegiances need to be eradicated so that people’s loyalties are to the One Government and no other. It is as simple and as horrific as that.

The nightmare being planned really will be as dark and dystopian as any number of black, Orwellian science fiction books you might have read.

The report needs to present alongside the details of mortality:

How many died OF
How many died WITH
Was the fictitious 28 days, or similar rule applied
What was the average age of death
Where did people die
How many had co-morbidities
Breakdown by age

And any relevant others that the more statistically minded might deem appropriate.

On the face of it the report appears contradictory and farcical.

I just wonder why it is that these ‘experts’ are incapable of understanding that the threat from a pathogen is NOT how fast it can spread but what it actually does to an infected person.

Any sane person, during this nightmare and certainly looking back, must be struck by the fanatical preoccupation to the point of psychotic obsession with stopping the spread, and trying with methods that from historical observation could have no hope of succeeding, with no regard to any other aspect of public or individual health or economy.

Why didn’t they just nuke us? That would have stopped the spread! Probably would have caused less lasting damage. (See Hiroshima & Nagasaki)

Dr. Vladimir Zelenko said anyone that willfully vilified and obstructed access to hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin in the prevention and treatment of Covid-19 is guilty of first degree capital murder, genocide, and crimes against humanity. They are trying to jab as many people as possible so that their great reset aka depopulation plan work. I believe in God & Jesus. Masks Masks Masks. They achieve next to nothing. They don’t prevent the spread of the virus. But for governments they’re a great way to make people think something nasty is under the bed, thereby guaranteeing compliance and malleability. They entail their own dangers, of course – but they are the most pernicious aspect of this whole farcical situation because they allow other, even nastier restrictions to persist. In the early days of mask wearing, people used to say “I don’t like masks but I wear one so that I don’t make others feel anxious”. I seem to remember that I told myself something along those lines too, at first. But I’ve had enough of pussyfooting around these people now. What this ‘pandemic’ has done more that anything else is highlight just how gigantically dishonest and inaccurate it is to suggest that the “the public isn’t stupid” – you know, that mantra beloved of politicians, when you know they mean the opposite. No, sorry – it turns out that many, many members of the public are exquisitely, excruciatingly stupid. To sooo many of these halfwits, masks are the one visible ‘proof’ that Covid is still/was ever ravaging the country. At my local pharmacy yesterday, people in the queue were nervously keeping two metres away from each other and making sure to have their masks in place the moment they got out of the car – some turning up with the wretched things on while driving. The fact that the four people on the other side of the counter – no idiotic plastic barriers in sight – were NOT wearing masks didn’t impinge on their tiny consciousnesses for a moment. When at the beginning of last week the school I work at here in Norfolk dropped the cruelty of making children and teachers wear masks, half a dozen teachers continued to wear them, as well as a couple of children per class. The children I feel terribly sorry for; I talk to them – I try to reassure them that no danger exists or ever has existed for them. they react nervously, like hunted animals – “Can’t – it’s dangerous.” This is a shocking tragedy. Those teachers, though – they’re beyond my contempt. I exchanged a word or two with them before the Great Release – out of courtesy – but now, they can go to hell. The situation has its gratifyingly comic aspect; they now stand out like a sore thumb, and the majority of teachers who’ve dropped the masks – about 95% of them – can be heard now and then making fun of the hardcore addicts; the ones who had the doors and windows flung wide open during the fiercely cold days of October, November, December and January, when many children froze in their seats in the gales that blew through and stopped them being able to concentrate. I’ve never beheld such utterly brainless insensitivity on the part of ‘educated’ adults. The contempt of some of them for the wellbeing of the children they’re sworn to care for was plain to see: Ms W, while informing her English class that Seamus Heaney is still alive; while writing the word “Suspence” on the board for children to copy; while checking the class knows that the word “love” in the phrase “his love for her” is of course a verb; while pronouncing ‘Buchanan’ (Great Gatsby) as “Butchernan” (I kid you not) – while demonstrating her profound ignorance again and again of the subject she’s apparently qualified to teach – while spewing forth all these things and many more in the space of one hour, she spewed her nonsense through a mask, breaking off now and then to upbraid some poor freezing child for not wearing his/her mask “properly”, yet remaining oblivious to the discomfort experienced by the entire class. I’ve seen the same in all but one of the ten English classes (10 different teachers, that is) I’ve observed. You really do have to see it to believe it. I’ve requested an audience with the Head, but have repeatedly been put off. I’m telling you – the country is doomed.

The report in full is a typical non evidence management document. It has no evidence to support masks or other suggestions just a feeling that they should have worked. If there is one thing that the last 2 years have taught us is that the most dangerous threat to life was not the SARS-CoV-2 virus but the politicians and their in house science advisors! https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21274246-summary_20220225
