Angela Rayner is facing a revolt from the shires over controversial plans to scrap county councils after nearly 140 years. The Telegraphhas the story:
Under the shake-up, announced by the Government earlier this year, two-tier county and district councils will be abolished, and merged into new unitary authorities providing all services for an area. Many counties will be carved up into smaller areas as a result.
Seven county councils have told the Secretary for Housing, Communities and Local Government that they will or could launch judicial reviews of the decision in a attempt to save themselves.
One accused the Government of “blatant gerrymandering” because the boundary changes matched those put forward by local Labour figures.
Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Hampshire councils have set out their intention to launch judicial reviews, while Devon, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire have warned they may do so. If the cases go to court, it could put the plans in doubt.
County councils were created in 1889, based on the historic counties that had been around since medieval times. …
The boundaries of major cities such as Oxford will also be expanded to make it easier to build houses on the fields that surround them.
England’s smallest authority, Rutland, will be abolished altogether. Its area will be merged into part of Leicestershire.
In August, Devon county council said it was considering a judicial review and had written to the Government to serve notice. The County Council and its 10 districts are being replaced by four unitaries: extended versions of Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay, alongside a rump authority covering the rest of the county. …
Suffolk said it was going ahead with its judicial review after the Government department admitted ministers had decided to split the county into three despite civil servants suggesting there should be only one unitary authority for the area.

This is a continuation of the EU “sub-regional. authority” idea. The facts it was a bad one and that we have left the EU seems not to have slowed down the planning all thos eyears under the Tories.

This has to be stopped it is the death of democracy. It will be top down as it is in Europe with “the little man” i.e. thee and me having little or no say. Typical Socialist doctrine.
Absolutely right you are! It is part of the truly sinister Globalist plan to carve all western nations into large chunks of territory ruled over by what they will call “Mayors”, in order to make it all seem more friendly, local and democratic, when in fact they will be akin to Feudal Overlords answerable only to the totalitarian “Global Government”.
The idea is to break up all concepts of “nation-states” and replace them with “city-states”, as in London and New York. So when Andy Burnham talks of “devolution”, he is carefully nudging people to accept the idea of “Friendly Local Mayors” as their Feudal Overlords, and advocating the destruction of nations and national borders.

I wonder will Reform back a review, if it wasn’t for them there would have been no local council elections. This Labour Party is nothing but a bunch of small time would be Dictators.

She certainly lives up to her well-deserved moniker “No brainer with Angela Rayner”.
God help us all ( ‘cos no-one else will ).
Thick but dangerous. They are hoping to extend the Labour vote into country areas as happened in Somerset when the Bristol green Socialists ousted JRM. The Brighton green communist double universities and general weirdo vote will outnumber the surrounding country conservative vote.

In our locality the nearby City is making a grab for some surrounding areas. I suspect they hope to obtain more money for their pet projects. But I hope they will reap the benefit of lots of pressganged electors voting against them in future elections.
