Over the last few weeks, it’s not only been the Leveson Lobby – outfits like Hacked Off, the Good Law Project and Byline Times – calling for press reform following the media coverage of Jason Arday, but the far Left too.
Case in point: Green Party leader Zack Polanski – who attended the vigil for Arday in Trafalgar Square on Monday, organised by the socialist group Stand Up to Racism – has tweeted that we need “Media regulation. Now”…
…and criticised the “tiny number of billionaire owned firms” that “dominate our media”.
All of this looks rather hypocritical when you consider the Left’s own media infrastructure. The Canary, for instance, lists Cecil Hetherington as a major shareholder, whose net worth is roughly £45 million to £46 million, according to one report. Hetherington also owns shares in Reach plc and is a board member of Declassified Media, another Leftist outfit whose Co-Director is Laura Director, formerly Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Secretary of State for Employment Rights.

Then there’s Novara Media, PoliticsJOE, the London Economic – which is “part of the JOE Media Group family” – Byline Times and Babelfish, a media platform recently launched by Dale Vince. I myself have been the subject of a hit piece by the ‘Bureau of Investigative Journalism’, which is funded by Ecotricity (Vince’s organisation), the Gates Foundation, George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, among many other Left-wing funders.
Polanski even has his own podcast –

Don’t forget the Scott trust who fund the Guardian and who I note have the begging bowl out again to their readers (yes, I do read the odd article, no I don’t contribute and never will)
Presumably, Hugh Grant’s idea of a “ better press “ is one that wouldn’t expose his dalliance with a prostitute, but would give publicity to any acting project that he might have on the go.
The Good Law Project and Hacked Off are part of the Far Left
Good Law Project:
Radical. Andy, take note.
Controlling the press has been a strategy of tyrants, I suspect since Gutenberg.
Off-topic. GBN is reporting that Councils have been given powers to enter British homes to check the accommodation including number of bedrooms.
Presumably they’ll soon need to know how many illegal immigrants can be compulsorily accommodated in their district’s housing stock?
That does seem to be the direction of travel. People laughed at the idea at first, but they’re not laughing now.
While ‘most of the public aren’t aware it exists’ those of us who value free speech (and wish to see it restored) must console ourselves with the thought that the legacy media – even including the Guardian, the BBC and Sky News – surely comprehend that requiring the media to ‘only report the truth’ could be turned on the progressive woke lobby by a reactionary government in a matter of days, even if Polanski and other brain dead champions of censorship don’t.
