The number of foreigners claiming benefits has hit a fresh high, with almost 1.3 million migrants claiming Universal Credit in May – around 20,000 more than a year earlier. The Telegraphhas the story:
Citizens from the EU accounted for the biggest proportion of the total, with about half of the foreigners claiming Britain’s main unemployment benefit coming from the Continent.
Those with indefinite leave to remain, who have usually lived and worked in the UK for at least five years, accounted for 233,000 of the total.
Foreign nationals can generally start claiming welfare on the same terms as British citizens once they are granted settled status or indefinite leave to remain.
Asylum seekers are also eligible after they have been granted refugee status. …
Official figures also showed the overall number of people on UC hit a record high of 8.36 million, with more than half of claimants having no requirement to look for work.
While much of the recent increase is because of people being moved on to UC from legacy benefits, Andy Burnham faces a growing welfare bill, with sickness and disability benefits alone set to rise above £100 billion a year before 2030.
I don't know whether it's the firms that pay for the advertising…

Howthe F is this even possible, when I spent over £10,000 to bring my American wife in, everything said she had no recourse to public funds whatsoever?!
Do they all have permanent leave to remain?
Reform’s plan to abolish it seems the best option as how many would leave when the tap from my bank account is cut off?
Black Belt Barrister has covered this subject, He experienced the same as his wife is Chinese.

The name of the Economics Editor at the DT is Szu Ping Chan. However able she may be I would prefer the editor was called Liam Halligan.
Szu (if that is how to address her) could have found this out by attending the Reform Press Conference where benefit changes were explained by Robert Jenrick. I suppose the Editors or owners of the DT prefer to be behind the news if it means they don’t have to credit Reform with policy achievements.
