Angela Rayner is facing accusations of hypocrisy after defending the money she made from speaking gigs while out of government – despite previously criticising MPs for earning money on the side. The Mailhas the story:
The register of MPs’ interests shows that Ms Rayner raked in nearly £90,000 from speaking engagements between February and June this year.
She also received £76,500 as an advance on her forthcoming book and £2,400 for hosting a radio phone-in show.
Ms Rayner earned the cash while she was out of the Cabinet after being forced to resign as Housing Secretary in September last year.
It followed her tearful admission she failed to pay £40,000 in stamp duty on the purchase of an £800,000 flat in Hove, East Sussex.
She returned to her former role in July this year when new Prime Minister Andy Burnham brought her back into government.
Ms Rayner, the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, defended herself this morning from suggestions of hypocrisy after she previously said MPs shouldn’t have second jobs.
In May 2023, amid scrutiny of MPs’ earnings from outside their parliamentary role, Ms Rayner had posted on social media: “Being an MP isn’t a second job. It is the job. Labour will put an end to this racket.” …
Ms Rayner lashed out at MPs’ “shameful” outside earnings in 2023 following a ‘sting’ operation by the campaign group Led By Donkeys.
Exactly my thoughts. A way for her puppetmasters to pay for services rendered, perhaps?

The Labour clownshow student union government has done everything they screamed at the Tories about in opposition and worse. This hypocritical woman is one of the worst offenders.
I cannot unsee that image of her slouched in an inflatable (how appropriate for the Channel), vaping with glass of wine in hand, wearing that tight swimsuit. Minister of the Crown? Not unless it’s a pub, and a sh*** one at that.

The one thing that can be said about Ranting or the Stockport Slapper as some prefer is that she has one hell of a brass neck. Talk about butter wouldn’t melt !
Ranting is the face of today’s Britain : a liar, a cheat, wholly uneducated, crude, two-faced, rude, grasping and utterly vile. Perfect as a minister in this criminal and utterly treasonous government.

From various accounts, I’m led to believe she trousers about 10 grand an hour to impart her educated wisdom on the business of building houses, the buy to let market & bagging a seafront apartment on the cheap down south. Apparently there’s nowt she don’t know about it..

Surely a more serious question than her hypocracy is the mental state of those who paid to listen to her speak, paid to publish her words and the radio show producer for inflicting her on the audience.
Exactly, there has to be a claim there for some of her victims I’m sure!…
still – in a funny way I can’t help but be impressed that *she* can ‘earn’ that sort of coin… given who she actually is…

A minister being hypocritical? Well, I never. Next you’ll be telling us that Ed Miliband never had a heat pump installed while he was in his previous job, or that the PM is jetting around the country rather than going by train, or that Miatta Fahnbulleh is having her children educated privately.
