German police are hunting a 21 year-old man after a van ploughed into crowds at Berlin’s Pride parade, killing one person and injuring 17 others. The Telegraphhas the story:
The suspect, named by police as Abdul B, is known to authorities “as a member of Islamist circles in Berlin”.
He is described as slim, approximately 1.90 million (6ft 3in) tall, and was seen wearing a black hooded jumper and white trousers.
At least one person was killed and 17 others were injured on Saturday night, including three critically, after a white van mowed down a crowd at the event. There were further reports that people were then stabbed.
Abdul B is alleged to have injured several people with the vehicle in Tiergarten park at around 10pm, before crashing into a tree.
Police said one or more people then fled the vehicle and remain at large.
The force warned the public to avoid direct contact with the suspect, who could be armed and dangerous.
Florian Nath, a Berlin police spokesman, said: “The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed.”
He added that “we still have no information whatsoever regarding his specific motives, the exact sequence of events or his role in the crime itself”. …
Witnesses described seeing people lying on the ground with stab wounds in the aftermath of the attack, Mr Nath said. …

A Berlin senator urged people not to speculate about the incident as he said that it “didn’t happen” at the Gay Pride event itself.
Considering German history I would of thought they’d be the first to realise that when you hate people for who they are because you believe in a crazy ideology you kill them. All the police need to do is work backwards from here to find the motive.
I’m having a snack and Sky News is on the TV in the cafe. The subtitles say that the German Chancellor promises that they will defend their freedoms (I don’t think so mate) and the parade organiser says they reject all forms of violence (probably meant to be a dig at the “far right”). Sorted then, job done.
The irony of ‘defending their freedom’ when the FSU is intending to set up a German branch to counter the ‘don’t be mean to politicians’ law that I have just been reading about.

There you go, all you racist, right wing conspiracy theorists – he could have been any odd Hans, Wilhelm or Jürgen!
Citizenships and passports are handed out like sweeties these days and say nothing about the person’s true nationality and background.
