Political correctness has been blamed for the failure of social workers to prevent a gay couple from murdering their adopted baby, with the child’s grandmother and a senior social worker suggesting worries about homophobia clouded officials’ judgement. The Mail has the story.
Officials missed a string of chances to save a baby sexually abused and murdered by the teacher adopting him.
Serious questions are being asked about the scrutiny faced by Jamie Varley, 37, and his boyfriend, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, after they were given little Preston Davey to look after.
Over a period of four months, the “pure evil” pair physically, psychologically and sexually assaulted the child under the noses of social workers. Varley was said to have treated Preston as his “plaything”.
One senior social worker questioned whether officials had been manipulated by the middle-class couple – who both had professional jobs, were articulate and lived a seemingly respectable lifestyle – or if they were blinded by political correctness and a desire to promote diversity.
“Questions need to be asked about whether these men were sufficiently challenged,” the source said. “Social workers can find it difficult to confront same-sex adoptive parents due to a fear of being seen as politically incorrect.”
Preston’s birth grandmother, Debbie Davey, 66, suggested that worries about homophobia may have clouded the judgement of those supposed to be supervising his care as at least eight opportunities to protect him were missed.
“Social services might have been hesitant to take action when they saw Preston because they may have been accused of being homophobic,” Davey said. “They didn’t see through [Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley] and see what was going on.”
A post-mortem examination found Preston, who was just 13 months old when he died, suffered more than 40 injuries, including 30 visible bruises and serious internal injuries to his throat and bottom.
A jury took 13 hours to convict Varley – a textiles teacher, who was also a head of year and safeguarding lead at a comprehensive school – of murder, while McGowan-Fazakerley, an accounts manager for a finance firm, was at work.
Varley, described during the harrowing trial as a “drama queen”, fell to his knees and started dry retching in the dock at Preston Crown Court as the verdicts were returned on Monday.
McGowan-Fazakerley, who was found guilty of sexual assault, two counts of cruelty and allowing Preston’s death, stared straight ahead and remained emotionless. They will be sentenced on Thursday.

Some aspects of the case have not been fleshed out. The first is by a witness, early on, who said baby Preston had been a happy child but was quiet and withdrawn when she saw him next. Was anyone from the hospital called to give evidence? I’m thinking particularly of the consultant who gave the all-clear, in spite of the baby being treated multiple times for injuries, including a broken arm.
I hope this pair of evil bastards get the justice they deserve in prison.

I am sure that there are many men and women who would do a wonderful job of rasing a child but I am against, on principle, two men or two women adopting a child. It seems that the ‘rights’ of the adults often take precedence over the basic rights of the child. An orphan child, or any child up for adoption, is entitled to be raised in a balanced male and female relationship. The whole of nature is based on the male/female relationship and the production of offspring. If someone, either deliberately or through their own nature, does not/cannot form a relationship with the opposite sex then it naturally has consequences. And one of those, in my opinion, precludes adopting a child. The rights of the child override any ‘rights’ of the adults.
The thing is, whether we agree or disagree is neither here nor there. It’s illegal to discriminate based on one’s sexuality;

you are correct in saying that it is the law but I was expressing my opinion. Every individual is worthy of respect (until they do something that loses that respect) but the rights of a child must take precedence over the wishes of adults.

I think the sentence will have to be pretty long, and in any case long sentences are bad for the convict’s health without other people deciding to deal with them.

The baby was seriously injured by an object forced into his mouth. We can all guess what that object was.
This harrowing case has started major debate on social media about the suitability of gay men for adopting babies, banning them from doing so and, further, banning men from working in nurseries. Interestingly, these discussions are all initiated by men with many more chiming in with their support. What’s also interesting is that if you were to do a search you’d find gay men are no more likely to molest children than straight men. From my quick look I can’t see any evidence which would support a ban.
And when it comes to nurseries, obviously this isn’t an area where many men gravitate to work anyway, and is it fair to look at any male applicant and suspect him of having ulterior motives and being a possible pervert? As it’s illegal to discriminate based on ‘protected characteristics’ such as one’s sex, it’s not as if a workplace can ban anyone.

Yet we have the situation that gay men in such a living arrangement are given preferential treatment compared to a heterosexual happily-married couple being denied adoption in case their faith might save a child from a perverted lifestyle.
All children are better off with two parents – a man and a woman. That is the foundation of the family unit upon which fair and just society was built. Through the pressures of Fabianism, Cultural Marxism, Theosophy and other anti-God systems, modern society has bent over backwards to harming its most vulnerable. That’s what is evidenced by this tragic case – and what needs to be spoken out.
Was the grandmother (grandparents have no parental rights) denied access to her grandson so she could check him? That alone should have alerted the social workers. We know how this plays out. Lessons will be learned and so on. What a complete and utter betrayal of a dear little boy.
I was wondering about the child’s grandmother, too: Why didn’t she adopt her own grandchild, instead of leaving him at the mercy of strangers?

I read somewhere that she is already looking after one of her daughter’s offspring, was about to start chemotherapy for breast cancer and would therefore not have been fit enough to be able to care for him.
It was the decision of the social workers, not the grandmother, according to the evidence. Was it their determination to place a child, any child, with these two monsters?
Good god, the mother of Preston is a convicted murderer, who murdered an elderly woman when she was just a kid herself. It says further on that the grandmother wanted to adopt Preston but she was fighting breast cancer. This is from the above article;

How and why was the fourteen year old killer then allowed to go free and breed?
If that were my daughter I’d have disowned her. I’d also be racked with guilt thinking what on earth I’d done wrong to have a child go out and do something so evil. But who can say how much is nature and how much is nurture with such heinous crimes? I’d sure as hell make sure to wash my hands of the Devil’s spawn, though. 😮
