A Sudanese man has been arrested after an attempted “beheading” in Belfast last night that left a man in his 40s with serious injuries in a “critical” condition. The Mail has more.
The graphic scenes of violence unfolded outside an apartment block on Kinnaird Avenue, in the north of the city, at around 10.30pm on Monday.
Hero bystanders were seen attempting to intervene, with one seen striking the man repeatedly with a hurling stick. Others in footage circulating on social media today wrestled the suspected attacker to the ground.
A man in his 40s was rushed to hospital with serious injuries to his face, neck and back, and is said to be in a “critical” condition.
A Sudanese man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police have declared the attack a “critical incident” and are urgently investigating, with both men said to live locally.
Officers originally said the suspect was believed to be Somali, but later confirmed he is actually from Sudan.
Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch are leading calls for more information about the suspect to be released immediately, with the Reform UK leader saying the public “are entitled to the truth” about the “identity and status of the attacker”.
The leader of the DUP Gavin Robinson said the stabbing was “barbaric” and “medieval”, while X owner Elon Musk responded to a picture of the attack – which called for “consequences” for politicians over immigration – and said: “That day cannot come soon enough.”
The horrifying video appears to show a man sitting astride a victim lying on the ground and stabbing him to the head and neck area, as bystanders shout at him to stop. One man can be heard saying: “He’s trying to cut his head off.”
Several men then approach the attacker and try to intervene, by striking and wrestling him for several seconds before the first officers arrived at the scene.
There has been widespread shock and condemnation of the incident and residents have been praised by police and politicians for their bravery.
Anti-immigration activists have called for mass protests in Belfast this evening, with fears of widespread disorder as a result. Some posts online called for men over 18 to attend, wear dark clothing and “be prepared to fight or be arrested”.
Sir Keir Starmer described the attack as “sickening” and said he will have “absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets”.
He added: “My thoughts are first and foremost with the victim, and I thank the first responders, including members of the public who intervened.”
In a tweet Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said: “What happened in Belfast last night is horrific. The authorities must reveal the identity and status of the attacker immediately. The public are entitled to the truth.”

Stop Press: The suspect is an asylum seeker granted leave to remain in the UK in 2023, PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher has said.
Chief Constable Jon Boutcher told a press conference: “It is my understanding that the suspect was granted leave to remain in the UK on September 28th 2023.
“Again, this is to be confirmed but I am informed that he made his way from Sudan to Paris at dates unknown and from Paris he flew to Dublin at a date yet to be determined.
“From my current understanding he then travelled from Dublin to Belfast by bus on Febraury 10th 2023 and claimed asylum that date.
“There is no trace of this suspect on any of our national security databases and he was not known to the police service of Northern Ireland.”

It is a bit suspicious that the Sudanese chose a very public place with Irish people around to carry out this attack, openly looking at the camera while brandishing his knife, and that it just happened to be filmed by an Irish passerby, and that the passerby kept veering the video AWAY from the attack at crucial moments for no reason, and that this attack has instantly drawn attention away from the Lying Sikh Coward who murdered Henry Nowak.

I always wonder why people don’t ask more questions about the assessment process.There are videos on Tik Tok telling the asylum seekers what exactly to say about being persecuted to the interviewer. GB news has featured this. These people probably run rings around the assessors. I have experience of assessing tricky clever people who want to game the system. I’d like to know the details of recruitment and training of these interviewers. Are they all left wing? What experience do they have?

If legislation and other agreements prevent taking action (a common excuse) then change the legislation. Duh.
Legislation is not the answer and neither is it required. All that is required is a PM who comes out with a statement that says
“Enough is enough. All illegals will be rounded up and shipped to Afghanistan, all other recent arrivals not in work will have benefits cancelled and three months to find work or they will be shipped out. Any, absolutely any crime will result in automatic and immediate deportation. There will be no recourse to the British legal system.”
