When Simon Wakter, Political Adviser to Sweden’s Minister for Energy, posted on X last Wednesday with a simple “Wow, incredible article” and a clapping emoji, he captured the shock rippling through Europe’s energy commentariat. The target of his applause was not some fringe sceptic but Germany’s own Economy and Energy Minister, Katherina Reiche.
In a guest column for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reiche delivered a verdict that would have been career-ending heresy only a year ago: “One fact has been concealed for too long: an energy transition that ignores system costs will ruin the country it claims to save.” To anyone who has watched Germany’s Energiewende — that totemic experiment in decarbonisation-by-decree — unfold like a slow-motion train wreck, Reiche’s words land like a thunderclap from the Establishment itself.
Here is a senior CDU Minister in Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Government openly admitting that two decades of Green-inspired fantasy have saddled the continent’s industrial powerhouse with hidden costs now running, according to estimates she cites, at €36 billion a year and climbing towards €90 billion. Grid expansions, backup power for intermittent wind and solar and the sheer inefficiency of trying to run a modern economy on the weather: all of it, she says, must stop being airbrushed out of the official narrative. The self-deception, she warns, is over.

This shows the picture of the productivity of European Weather-Dependent “Renewables” since 2010. At ~15% it means “Renewable” installations have to about 6 times the scale of Fossil Fuel or Nuclear generators to supply the same level of power to the Grid, unreliably. It is hardly surprising they are more costly for consumers.
Germany, like Italy, can light up their coal-fired power stations, use their own (dirty) coal and keep the lights on.
We can’t, because the virtue-signalling morons in the Uni-Party blew up our last 3 coal-fire power stations.
Closing their nuclear power plants was an act of treason by Merkel. Lunacy.
Sort-of. Nuclear power was always highly contentious in Germany and could only be violently enforced by the police due to massive, years-long rioting at all prominent nuclear sites. I can still name them all from memory – Wackersdorf (nuclear recycling plant), Kalkar (breeder reactor) and Gorleben (proposed long-sterm storage for nuclear waste). This was – in fact – the top “environmental” topic of the German Greens by the time this was still central for the party.
Merkel broke with the long-term CDU policy of enforcing the use of nuclear power against large parts of the German population by violent means because the Fukushima incident had strongly reinvigorated this particular debate. By that time, it felt like a bold decision to end a stalemate which had haunted Germany since the 1980s.
Insofar she did anything treasonous (before abolishing the German constitution to rule by decree instead because of COVID) , that would have been her opening the German borders to so-called “Syrian refugees” which were really all just immigrant seeking to move permantently to Germany to exploit the overly generous (to foreigners, mind you, not to Germans) German welfare state.

She’s just trying a more measured salespitch for the exact same carp to paint her party (CDU) as the only one which plans to achieve Net Zero in a responsible way which will actually work. Unfortunately, the article has meanwhile been paywalled and hence, I can’t quote from it anymore but it started with Reiche asserting that just setting targets like 80% renewables by 2030 and Net Zero by 2045, while comforting for our bad conscience, wouldn’t be enough.
There’s certainly no reason why anybody in Germany or Europe should have a bad conscience because of climate change and that Reiche simply asserts this as undisputable certainty communicates that she’s 100% committed to The Cause™, reality be damned.
One thing is certain, Germany is not going to change course until the next election so has a few more years of industrial and economic decline to come, and with each year that passes, rebuilding will become even more difficult.
None of the German establishment parties (CDU/CSU, SPD, FDP, Greens and Die Linke) is willing to change course. The very chancellor of German, Friedrich Merz, was formerly a lawyer working for XR-funder Christopher Hohn. These people are all exactly as corrupt as the political establishment everywhere and exactly as bought.
It’s just that The Tilak™ won’t write sensible articles about this because he prefers to ride his hatred-for-europe hobbyhorse instead. For the particular case of Germany, he’s additionally hampered by the fact that he knows nothing about it, not even that Joschka Fischer’s prominent government role wasn’t the Hessian state minister of the 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s but secretary of state for foreign affairs during the Schröder-years and hence, doesn’t really understand the German texts he’s quotemardering from.
This is unfortunately nothing but another fairly silly Doshirade which starts out with the claim the environmental policies are a German invention and then refers to a bunch of American sources which contradict that.
In 1988, the Greens were universally shunned in German politics and busy with discussing among themselves if they actually wanted power to influence things (what the so-called Realos — realists, proposed) or remain forever an anti-system protest party (the position of the so-called Fundis — fundamentalists). The Greens came to power as part of Schröder’s two SPD – Greens cabinets from 1998 – 2005 (where Fischer was foreign secretary). By that time, the climate change narrative had already been established (originally attributed to the Ozone Hole in the late 1980¹). They didn’t pursue any particular climate policy. Climate saving was, however, very popular with the Clinton goverments in the USA from 1993 – 2001, mainly due to notorious “climate saver” Al Gore being vice president — a period of history which doesn’t exist in the Doshiverse. So somebody in Germany has realised that they are going to get chucked out of office because of their net zero lying. At least that still remains possible while democracy exists.
But the Left will think of some other way of ruining us after this scam has run its time. They need to put the wind up enough people to keep socialism rolling. I fear that it could be the suspension (permanently) of democracy. Our present government have already tried it by the postponement of local elections and now the banning of the inconvenience of trial by jury in order to keep common sense out of the justice system.
The facts about climate have been obvious from the beginning. Carbon dioxide takes up about 4% of the atmosphere and therefore its effect is dominated by other gases (water vapour etc). It is essential for plant life though and as soon as it increases a bit so does plant life. So, long may it be with us.

Carbon dioxide constitutes 0.04% (400 odd parts per million) Of that 0.04% only 3-4% are anthropogenic and the infrared wavelength that it radiates at are also occupied by the far more predominant gas of water vapour as you say.
And, of that 3%, just 1% is the UK’s contribution.
That’s 0.000012%, which somehow, we are asked to believe, is going to destroy the planet, although nobody can say what the optimal level of CO2 is, nor what temperature despite knowing that both have been much higher without causing life on earth to cease…
The ‘natural’ level of CO2, the remaining 97%, of course somehow remains entirely benign.
Makes you wonder how many people are keeping their mouths shut or even pretending to agree but actually know it’s all madness and don’t dare say.

I have been rather amused to hear that, along with fertiliser production, another downside of the Iran hiatus is a lack of CO2… something to do with meat production, apparently?
How should we respond to this.
The state has forced us to adopt an unnecessary and costly policy at the behest of globalist leftist climate catastrophists. They are slowly admitting they got it wrong.
On the sceptical side (CO2 deniers, Net Zero opponents) we have known all tbhis for many years and it has been spelled out clearly and on public platforms. We were right that the solution does not woirk and we are right that the poroblem does not exist, at least not in any form so far described and not within the terms of human endeavour to change.
Just as with the importation of millions of people with hostile cultures and no skills which make them useful to us, dramatic and costly policies have been imposed without our approval, under cover of state sponsored propaganda and using dubious legal devices to suppress criticism.
How should we respond to this. Voting them out of office is not enough. There must be some humiliation or punishment for all involved. We cannot allow them to just move on.
