Donald Trump has launched a tirade against Pope Leo, saying he is “weak on crime” and “thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon” after the pontiff said that God “rejects the prayers of those who wage war”. The Mail has more.
The President labelled the head of the Catholic Church as a “very liberal person” and said he is “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy”.
He also said that Leo, 70, was only made Pope “because he was an American”, adding: “If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”
Trump was exiting Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews when he aired a litany of grievances against the pontiff.
He said: “I don’t think he’s doing a very good job. He likes crime I guess.
“We don’t like a pope who says it’s ok to have a nuclear weapon. We don’t want a pope that says crime is okay. I am not a fan of Pope Leo.”
Trump’s comments came just moments after he made a Truth Social post criticising Pope Leo for meeting Barack Obama’s campaign manager David Axelrod.
The President, 79, then referenced the pontiff’s brother Louis, who has said he is a supporter of Trump and was feted at the White House last year.
He added: “I like his brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn’t!”
Trump then criticised Pope Leo suggesting he wanted Iran to have a nuclear weapon. Denuclearisation of Iran is one of Trump’s main reasons for striking Tehran.
He added: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon.
“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country.”
The President went deeper on his opposition to Pope Leo and the church’s stance on several issues including Covid lockdowns.
“He talks about ‘fear’ of the Trump Administration, but doesn’t mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organisations, had during Covid when they were arresting priests, ministers and everybody else for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being 10 and even 20 feet apart,” Trump wrote.
The President then claimed that Pope Leo “criticises the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do”.
Trump then went on to even suggest that he is the only reason that Pope Leo became the first American leader of the Catholic Church.
He added: “Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise. He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”
Trump continued to criticise Pope Leo for his meeting with Axelrod, whom the President called an “Obama sympathiser” and “a LOSER from the Left, who is one of those who wanted churchgoers and clerics to be arrested”.
He added: “Leo should get his act together as Pope, use Common Sense, stop catering to the Radical Lef, and focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician. It’s hurting him very badly and, more importantly, it’s hurting the Catholic Church!”
It was an extraordinary broadside against the head of the Catholic Church, exacerbating a feud that began over the war in Iran.
Trump then posted what appeared to be an AI drawing of himself as Jesus Christ healing a sick person, followed by a photoshop of what it would look like if Trump Tower were built on the moon. …
While in prayer last week, [US War Secretary Pete] Hegseth asked God for “overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy”.
He added: “Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation.”
In what seems to be retaliation the Pope said at St Peter’s on Palm Sunday, God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them”.
Turning to the Bible, he said: “Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood.”
The seemingly back-and-forth row between the Trump administration and Pope Leo XIV started last year.
Before he was elected in May last year, Leo scrutinised J.D. Vance’s claims that the Bible justified caring for one’s family before migrants.
Following an invite by the Vice President to the US for Independence Day on July 4th this year, the Pope said he will instead spend the day visiting Lampedusa – an Italian island where migrants land after sailing from Africa.

He’ll certainly go down in history as one of the greatest wind up merchants. To paraphrase that old police advert “dull he isn’t”! For all his faults he is putting America first which is more than our political classes do for our country. Sorry (and this will probably get loads of thumbs down) I actually quite like the man.
He’s certainly something different and interesting I agree – of late though I’d say he sounding more and more desperate / unhinged. He was never a traditional ‘statesmen’ however surely the office of POTUS deserves some more decorum as a matter of respect?…

I’m no fan of Trump, but I really do try to recognise his sensible moves, and I have always been careful not to fall into the trap of TDS. The problematic reality is that the bloke frequently does, and says, things that paint him as a world-class idiot.

Here is a more complete picture of what Trump posted of him healing Epstein, with two eagles overhead instead of a dove tail. And what the heck is that spiked figure in the middle of the supposed angelic army? Is that supposed to be Satan?
The jets look like birds close up. The trident figure seems to have cloven hooves – maybe Iran? Strikes me as a very American message to the pope; anything you can do, I can do better. Trump doesn’t do modest.
Well, I can’t see those details even when I enlarge the image as much as I can on my Fred Flintstone Laptop, but the winged leader of that Angel Army has no face and a crown with three spikes, as far as I can see. I’m not interested in the Pope or any of his Communist opinions, especially after reading one Catholic commenter who declared that all Catholics regard the Pope as chosen by God as His Representative on Earth, and that insulting the Pope is insulting God. That statement is horrific blasphemy in itself, and shows that most Catholics have never read the Bible.
After looking at those three leading Angel Army figures again, I think that the central Triple-Spiked Crowned Warrior is meant to represent E-ah-weh coming with his Twin Archangel Warrior Sons beside him: E-on Christ the Baptist and E-zus the Forerunner, leading the Angel Armies.
Drumpf is pretending to be Christ, as the AntiChrist does, and Warrior E-ah-weh and his Twin Warrior Sons are coming to sort him out once and for all.

The pope is the head of the Catholic Church and also the head-of-state of the Vatican City microstate. He’s not one of Trump’s domestic political competitors and hence, his statements, which seem like inappropriately repurposed soundbites, make preciously little sense.
If there is violence in our hearts it is better to be violent, than to wear the cloak of “non-violence” to cover impotence.

What a surprise that Trump has expressed his opinion about an elected person he dislikes. But even if he was in office when Leo became the Pope, it might have made no difference. After all, a few days ago Trump and his acolyte had a pop at a foreign election – in Hungary, and that didn’t work, did it? Campaigning for a politician who had been in office for twice the maximum duration in the USA was weird, anyway. Viktor Orbán was in office for 16 years; impossible in the White House, after all.
