The Office for Budget Responsibility has published its latest 'Economic and Fiscal Outlook', following the Chancellor’s Spring Statement this week. The outlook contains details on the Government’s tax and spending plans for the next five years.
It offers a stark reminder of how much we are already spending on Net Zero and how much this will increase in coming years.
Starting with Ed Miliband’s Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) itself, day-to-day spending (RDEL) is running at £2 billion a year. On top of that, CDEL or capital spending adds up to £53 billion for the five years to 2029-30:
A total of £60.7 billion, pretty much all of which could be saved if the department was shut down, as it should be.
The OBR also include in its figures what are called “Environmental Levies”. These are levies added to energy bills because of Government policy. They are all directly or indirectly subsidies for renewable energy. (Note that the Renewable Heat Incentive, which pays subsidies to households to fit renewable heat systems, such as biomass boilers, is funded out of taxation.)
These various subsidy schemes are expected to cost £15.2 billion, rising to £19.8 billion in five years’ time.
Levies are paid via our energy bills, while DESNZ costs are funded through taxation. But one way or another, we will be paying more than £150 billion in the next five years for the obsession with Net Zero.

And who in their right mind would have expected the office temp with her fluffy new barnet to do anything that will benefit the majority of the British people for the time remaining for this government.
The £200 billion for upgrading the local mains network is already being spent my road in London is relatively flat and with semi detached houses with side passages. But they have put a huge 65mm cable all along the footpath which is bigger than the main cable feeding the present almost 100 year old cables. Then they have to take up the paved front gardens and somehow run a 15mm cable under the internal floors, which have expensive wood flooring with piping and wiring underneath with brick walls supporting the joists. The blokes doing the work are multi national and very helpful. They have to pay for any.damage to the property themselves! So far it has taken 2 weeks to nearly complete one side of the short road. The subcontractors to UK Networks, just sold to French Energie by the Chinese owner- now billionaire, has the contract to do the work at £4500 per house from Hertfordshire to Kent.
Christ I bet they are helpful at £4500 a house – even if they only get 10% of that it’s good work…
The welfare bill excluding Old age Pension is due to hit 188 billion this year. There are circa 70 million people in this country, if you exclude the people just on old age Pension and those who take no welfare. Where is this money being spent? surely the 10 perhaps 15 million on benefits cannot be sharing 188 billion between them even if it was taken up to 30 million people thats a hell of a sum for each person. So how is this spend per head actually broken down?
I’d guess the figure is well over 70 million population. Based on retailers and sewage etc, it was estimated some years back to be in the 80-100m range…
Whilst net zero is a lunacy I can’t really see there being a problem with money.
The UK spaffed away anything between 350-500 billion creating Covid Clown World and the banksters never batted an eyelid.
And for the same reasons there’s never a problem funding wars even when they’re not our wars ie Ukraine.
And as for Iran, if that drags on we’ll no doubt be dragged into that as well.
The problem with spaffing away anything between £350-500 billion plus £12.7 billion to Ukraine, that the country has to repay that sum plus interest of up to £15.4bn/year on those amounts.
And that’s exactly why the bankers didn’t bat an eyelid – they want the income… hence the perpetual ‘crisis’ mode
There is a problem with money. It’s being steadily taken away by the government from people who have been responsible and provided for themselves financially, and lavished by our government on all sorts of things that do the people they govern no good at all. The government is all about making everyone who resides in this country equally poor.
