Climate ‘Science’ is Now Pure Politics

The appointment of Imperial's Dr Friederike Otto to the IPCC shows that climate 'science' is now pure politics, says Ben Pile. Unable to produce actual evidence of 'extreme' weather, they resort to 'attribution studies'.

9 min read

In recent years, news coverage of every extreme weather event throughout the world has included a statement of anthropogenic climate change’s alleged influence on the probability of that event occurring. These estimates that this or that flood or wildfire was made so many more times more likely by climate change invariably come from an outfit called World Weather Attribution (WWA), led by Dr Friederike Otto of Imperial College. As we have reported here before, Otto's method, known as simply 'attribution', is controversial and arguably unscientific, and only of any use in generating climate fake news stories. But her work has immense political utility, and almost certainly for that reason she was this year appointed to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to lead its "detection and attribution" chapter, which, being based until now in more robust observational science and statistics, has been unable to provide the scientific certainty required to sustain the alarmist climate narrative. The inevitable criticism of that obvious political appointment has in turn yielded a response from the Green Blob: an attempt to rehabilitate the climate pseudoscience, to defend the agenda and smear the critics.

In Politico’s specialist energy and environment publication, E&E News, an article this week claims that 'Climate critics try to discredit IPCC author for linking disasters to global warming'. According to this story, critics’ claims that Otto’s work "aims to bolster multibillion-dollar lawsuits against oil and gas companies" is a false smear to the effect that her work

It’s a strange reversal of the period of enlightenment where we go backwards. We had a clear philosophy of science and understanding of logic. In particular A is more likely if B does not prove B if A happens!

Ah, Imperial College, that august establishment famed for models predicting half a million Covid deaths, innumerable bird flu deaths and plague and pestilence.

No one of intelligence believed in climate change before covid, but after covid it was obvious Imperial College was not a reliable source of any prediction or data. Completely discredited charlatans

I’m pleased DOGE stopped the money going to Politico, although it doesn’t seem to have stopped them spouting nonsense.

What do you mean ‘is now’? It was a Far Left idea from the start.

Climate science has always been garbage. A green communist methodology to undermine freedom and free enterprise. Communists can never win arguments with facts, so they use lies and propaganda.

In short, Otto is not a proper old-fashioned Prof, she got in via Green Blob funding of the Grantham Institute, effectively buying association with the once prestigious Imperial College.

As the saying goes “If you torture data long enough it will confess to anything”. Only need to look at Climate Science to see how true this is.

The UN’s world population goal is 500 million. That goal is to be achieved by effectively destroying traditional food production, thus starving the masses into their graves.

This is a war by the self-serving and self-appointing Global “Elites against “the peasants” in the West.

As far as they’re concerned, we are too affluent; too uppity; too old to be of much use to them …. and there are far too many of us.

The climate change tyranny is the means by which they intend to impoverish, control, weaken and kill as many of us off as they can.

I know this is well researched and written, but it’s too depressing to read. All these whoring journalists and creeps at places like Politico and Bloomberg and the Times and the FT and the Economist, let alone the real cesspits like the BBC and the Guardian.. wtf do they think they are blatantly lying to us day in day out? Just spouting absolute tripe about climate, never allowing genuine discussion or dissent? For how long did they think that this crap was sustainable?
The ship has sailed, the horse bolted, the train has arrived at its dismal terminus. Please god make it stop.

The UN is an anti semitic, misanthropic organisation which the UK should leave.
But there is as much chance of thst as Labour coming clean on China, or actually undertaking a proper rape gang investigation

In its current form it has long out lived it’s post WWII usefulness. It is now a Marxist Trojan Horse located within PDJT’s America. Expel them Mr President, ASAP.

These people can start calling themselves scientists when they are capable of making one independently verifiable accurate prediction. One. Just one.

Oh and the predicted event needs to be a real world, real life, observable occurrence. (i.e. not a made up temperature produced by a computer model because the weather station that supposedly records the temperature doesn’t actually measure temperature any more.)

Been true since 1988. It is not just ‘politics’ the sport of the ugly and mentally deformed (for the most part) but money. And lots of it. Even NASA et al (more fake science) and every large fat useless org is involved in the looting.

Money is the root of the climate-con-evil. Zero science makes an appearance in that cult.

Quite so.

Can anybody here explain why pondlife such as this Hohne creature blow so much cash on this pointless, destructive and vexacious “climate litigation”?

Genuine question – I don’t understand his motivation.

It’s to do with the construction of a legal system outside the control of voters. At the same time “climate litigation” is a device to bring independent corporations and businesses under the control of “international” bureaucrats rather than democratic governments.

Errr….he’s got $9Bn invested in GE Vernova which is heavily involved in the energy sector, green energy and energy grid solutions. His climate litigation is a form of aggressive lobbying for more (often public) money to be spent on green energy and GE Vernova products, enhancing the value of his TCI investment fund business. Follow the money.
