Yvette Cooper has been axed as Home Secretary in a shock Cabinet bloodbath triggered by Angela Rayner’s resignation that’s an apparent admission from Keir Starmer that his borders policy is failing. The Mail has more.

Keir Starmer tore up his failing Cabinet today as panic engulfed Labour after Angela Rayner’s dramatic exit.

The PM is moving Yvette Cooper from the Home Office in an apparent admission that borders policy is not working, after a torrid summer of migration protests.

Meanwhile, Liz Kendall is going from the Department of Work and Pensions to the science brief – having overseen the disastrous winter fuel allowance cuts and abortive effort to curb the benefits bill.

David Lammy is thought to have been transferred from Foreign Office to Justice, despite Downing Street previously guaranteeing he would stay in that job. But he will be made Deputy PM to avoid the appearance of a demotion.

Shabana Mahmood looks set to take over at Home Affairs. Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden will now head up a ‘super-ministry’ including the DWP and skills responsibilities, which are being stripped from Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson.

The extraordinary scale of the changes has sent Westminster into shock, after briefing that there would only be limited tweaks below Cabinet level this month.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves might be the only senior minister to cling on to their role, despite a welter of criticism over the stalling economy and fears the country is heading for a debt crisis.

Sir Keir has been left scrambling to stabilise his government following the departure of Ms Rayner from her posts of Deputy PM, Housing Secretary and Deputy Labour Leader.

There’s a rumour Cooper could ‘fail upwards’ and be the next Foreign Secretary.

Sadly, Ed Miliband has survived the cull.

The Telegraph has some further details:

Pat McFadden will head up a newly created Government department focused on growth.

It will be formed from the Work and Pensions Department combined with skills briefs taken from the Education Department.

How the new department interacts with the Treasury and exactly what briefs it will receive will be closely watched.

For decades there has been a debate about whether a standalone department focused on growth is [sic] created as a counterweight to the Treasury.

Mr McFadden, once Sir Tony Blair’s political secretary, had been Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster before the reshuffle.

It means Liz Kendall, who oversaw the botched attempted package of disability benefit cuts, is no longer overseeing welfare reforms. She is expected to replace Peter Kyle as Science Secretary after his promotion to Business Secretary.

It comes as David Lammy is set to replace Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister in the wake of her resignation over her tax affairs.

Mr Lammy is also set to move from Foreign Secretary to head the Ministry of Justice in Keir Starmer’s sweeping reshuffle, which will also see Yvette Cooper leave the Home Office.

Shabana Mahmood, the Justice Secretary, is expected to take over from Ms Cooper as Home Secretary with the task of tackling the small boats crisis and accelerating the closure of asylum hotels. …

Meanwhile, Sir Keir has also sacked Ian Murray and Lucy Powell from their positions as Scotland Secretary and Leader of the House of Commons.

Powell of course infamously dismissed the outcry over rape gangs as a “dog whistle” on BBC Radio in May.

“… an apparent admission from Keir Starmer that his borders policy is failing…”

His whole Government is failing. Swapping one incompetent as for another won’t make it a success.

“Yvette Cooper has been axed as Home Secretary in a shock Cabinet bloodbath triggered by Angela Rayner’s resignation that’s an apparent admission from Keir Starmer that his borders policy is failing.”

That and every other “policy”. Nothing he promised has happened, and his response – to keep on lying.

surely the only possible way out of this pile of you know what would be to have an immediate general election. with that in mind be sure to check out a petition on the uk government and parliament petition page….call an immediate general election it currently has 878,163, signatures it urgently needs many more and YOU can help in getting them first be sure to sign it and most importantly be sure to reshare it widely all over the uk wales/scotland/northern ireland/england/… with as many like minded people as you possibly can and be sure to ask each one of them to do exactly the same as im asking you to do

I see no hope for the UK. The enormous hole in our finances is key to any prospects for economic growth and recovery. The last chance the PM had to avoid the black hole was to get rid of the Net Zero insanity embodied in Miliband and his innumerate enabler, but their retention is going to kick us over the edge into the abyss.
Simple questions: Why does anyone support the Net Zero ambition of this government when there is no scientific basis upon which it might call for support? And why are we ignoring our increasing isolation on the world stage, is there something in the water infecting the current cabal of intransigent lunatics who refuse to acknowledge that the world won’t work as they want it to; cf Netanyahu, Zelenskyy, von der Leyen, Kaja Kallas?

If social mobility is so admired by socialists why are they so frantic to confiscate the fruits of a successful life? Especially one that didn’t depend on taxpayers’ money and union dues?

Well these moves should make things about10 times worse but at least having Lammy as deputy pm should give the rest of the world a laugh as Britain further resembles a Central African dictatorship

Why in God’s name do we think that we need a minister for everything? Do we not realise that people get on best without government interference? All these ministers should do nothing except find ways to get government out of peoples and businesses way, and cut taxes. Just regulate to ensure no cheating and law breaking by businesses, and reduce tax burdens, and people and let the economy work itself out. It would start to grow.

Interesting that Wes Streeting is conspicuous through his invisibility during this reshuffle. My prediction is he’ll replace Starmer sooner than we think. And he’s not the calm, measured persona he puts on display for the public. In his early political career he was known for tweeting some very unpleasant tweets about people he didn’t like suggesting that being run over or having their legs chopped off was just deserts. Not a nice man by the sound of it, I’m afraid.

Ah. Perhaps you should keep your powder dry and store his twitterings for another day. It would be great to see the new PM getting a visit from his own twitty spies. I hope someone took screenshots!

Edit, he is also a Fabian, like Starmer, Lammy, Kyle and many others in the Commie party.

Some great public comments on this from Dan Wootton’s website:

— “Lammy is worse than Raynor and that’s frightening.”

— “OMG !  Not Lammy , he is a complete Muppet, we are really screwed now”

— “David Lammy to take her place, WTF. Give Starmer a straightjacket and take him to the mad house.”

— “His food expenses are going to be massive”

— “Not just Lammy, but Mahmood as Home Secretary. Geez.”

— “Lammy calls the British people Nazis & Racists while holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the very people who fought to abolish slavery. What did you and your people do to stop slavery, Lammy?”

— “Dumb And Dumber now in the top 2 positions”

— “Lammy should be nowhere near power. Absolutely stupid and inept excuse of a politician.

— “Lammy is a laughingstock. Didn’t he just blow £15,000 on biscuits?”

Yes, it’s just jaw-dropping, isn’t it? It was bizarre enough putting Yet Another Pakistani Muslim in charge of Britain’s Justice System, and making her Lord Chancellor, but now she’s in charge of immigration.

There were already scandals years ago about Female Pakistani Muslim Immigration Officers who were caught accepting massive bribes to let their fellow Muslims in illegally. Now this! You really couldn’t make it up!

If Reform are to take advantage of the situation Labour find themselves in, and take the 400+ seats that’s being bandied about, they will first have to select 400+ candidates to stand…

And, those candidates will have to be fully vetted, to get rid of the liabilities first, before the Guardian discovers they are ex-Nazi concentration camp guards, with a penchant for racist tweets, or something.

On top of that they will need sensible, achievable, costed and legal policies, which they can get implemented. With a civil service, judiciary and legacy media largely opposed, not to mention a House of Lords with not a single Reform peer… I think they’ll have their work cut out.

I’d like to see how they intend to square that particular circle?

Starmer is in so far above his head it’s comical. It’s like watching the kid from Matlock who did OK at his A Levels and thought the whole world would work the same, accepting as his first job a contract to traffic $500M worth of cocaine into the US from Mexico.

My understanding is that Starmer can’t appoint his deputy.

This is a membership vote. With a block vote held by the unions.

Lammy can only hold the post until a new deputy is elected.

Happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

A new growth department eh – that’ll help
cut the numbers of officials down… by adding a load more? Rather like ‘continuous improvement’ teams in companies, it’s where innovation goes to die. The only useful thing it shows is none of the existing government departments are focused in the slightest on growth, if a new specific department is required to push it…

In which actually meaningful jobs can you just “reshuffle” people?

Imagine, today I’m chief engineer of a company and then one day they make me the head of sales and marketing and then a few months later they decide to make me CFO.

That doesn’t happen. It would be a clown show.

Our political system I’m sorry to say is a complete joke. It’s a ridiculous pantomime. I don’t really know how much of the population actually buy into it and how many just go along defeated, knowing not much can be done about it, and telling themselves that it could be worse. At least we’re not Russia, or China or North Korea….
