A couple of recent stories about the demented antics of lunatic-seeming Leftists on the Daily Sceptic had readers furiously typing out the question “Are these people actually mad?” in the comments section. When it comes to Ed Miliband, the answer is obviously yes. But surely voting Labour, in and of itself, isn’t a sign of being inherently psychologically or emotionally disturbed?
We should be careful in making such blanket assertions about our adversaries. Totalitarian far-Left regimes like the old Soviet Union were known for locking political opponents away within asylums before throwing away the key after ‘diagnosing’ them as suffering from wholly invented conditions like ‘sluggish schizophrenia’, whose main symptoms appeared to consist largely of a person being critical of Communist Party politicians. I’m sure certain people out there in our neo-Soviet governments these days would dearly love to pull a similar trick of ‘merciful’ hospitalisation with global warming dissenters. It’s always much easier to say someone is mad than to actually argue with them, after all.
