J.K. Rowling has spoken out in support of Donald Trump’s crackdown on transgender and gender identity rights following his return to the White House, saying the Left has overseen a “calamity”. The Mail has more.
The Harry Potter author claimed “the Left” had overseen a “calamity” with its “embrace of gender identity ideology” as she backed the U.S. President’s action.
Following his inauguration yesterday, Mr Trump signed a flurry of executive orders including the pardoning of US Capitol rioters and exiting the Paris climate agreement.
He also ruled that the US will only recognise two sexes – male and female – which are “not changeable”, and demanded officials use the term “sex” rather than “gender”.
His order mandates ID documents – such as passports and visas – be based on “an individual’s immutable biological classification as either male or female”.
And federal agencies were urged to end funding to promote “gender ideology”.
LGBTQ+ rights groups vowed to fight back against Mr Trump’s actions, but he found a supporter in Rowling.
Rowling tweeted:
A noisy part of the Left still refuses to step outside their sex-is-a-social-construct bubble and acknowledge that their embrace of gender identity ideology has been a calamity. They were warned the right was capitalising on their betrayal of women and girls. They didn’t listen.
Rowling has previously been highly critical of Trump, so her backing of this move shows the unlikely alliances being thrown up by the realignment of politics these past few years, as the Left has allowed its worst tendencies to run rampant and alienated many of its natural supporters.

Stop Press: Donald Trump has been forced to listen to a woke Anglican bishop telling him at a national prayer service to show “mercy” to illegal immigrants and transgender children. Bishop Marianne Budde of the US Episcopal Church told the National Day of Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral that “transgender children” are “fearing for their lives” due to him becoming President. She also told him not to deport illegal immigrants, insisting they were not criminals.
