The U.S. Education Department has handed out more than $1 billion in DEI grants since 2021, a report from Parents Defending Education has found. The Telegraph has the story.
Joe Biden’s administration has awarded 229 grants pushing diversity, equity and inclusion goals to students [school pupils] and school districts, according to analysis by the Parents Defending Education (PDE) group.
Some $489,883,797 was spent on grants for race-based hiring schemes, while a further $169,301,221 went on DEI-based mental health training and $343,337,286 on general DEI programmes, the report states.
It comes amid moves by senior Republicans to abolish the Education Department altogether.
In one example listed in the report, almost $4 million was awarded to the School District of Philadelphia for a “restorative justice programme” led by a former member of the Communist party.
Another $4 million grant is said to have been provided for a “culturally-responsive” computer science summer camp for 600 students, while $38,000 was allegedly given to a Michigan school district for training and copies of a book by an equity consultant. …
Fox News Digital, which first reported the PDE findings, notes that diversity, equity and inclusion is listed as one of the Education Department’s “focus areas” in its 2022-2026 strategic plan.
The term “equity” appears 77 times in the 170-page document, while “diversity” appears 19 times.
Mr. Staley claimed that the report likely underplayed the scale of the grants awarded because researchers were conservative in determining which were classed as a DEI programme.
Donald Trump, the President-elect, has previously called for the Education Department to be eliminated and returning its powers to the states.
