News Round-Up

  • “Jeremy Hunt faces fresh claims he is a ‘lockdown fanatic’” – Prime Minister wannabe Jeremy Hunt angrily denied supporting the Chinese approach to Covid, but a video of him in July 2020 saying he “very much” agrees “that we should be aiming for zero infection and elimination of the disease” because the countries which adopted that approach “have overwhelmingly been the most successful in tackling coronavirus” suggests otherwise, reports the Mail.
  • “China is becoming a hermit kingdom” – The county’s Zero-Covid nightmare is far from over, says Rana Mitter in the Spectator.
  • “Woman, 38, died from complications due to AstraZeneca Covid jab, coroner rules” – Kelly Dunley from Stoke-on-Trent tragically died in May 2021 after developing a deep vein thrombosis – a type of blood clot – that travelled to her lungs after having the vaccine, the Mail reports.
  • “Health workers could walk out over pay: ‘Summer of discontent’ grows” – Christina McAnea, General Secretary of Unison, said she would “strongly recommend” walkouts if, as expected, Ministers offer health service staff in England a 3% pay increase, according to the Mail.
  • “Why I’m 99% certain that Justin Bieber’s facial paralysis was caused by the Covid vaccine” – Steve Kirsch looks at the data and concludes it’s much more likely Bieber was injured than unlucky.
  • “Lockdowns Killed Over 170,000 Americans per NBER Study in NYT” – A new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research, cited in the Australian and in a New York Times op-ed, reveals over 170,000 non-Covid excess deaths among young Americans in 2020 and 2021, most likely attributable to measures implemented to combat the coronavirus, writes Michael Senger on his Substack page.
  • “Lawless cesspits” – Tom Leonard writes for Mail+ that America’s most liberal cities have finally had enough of the woke policies that turned them into crime-ridden places to avoid.
  • “Drag Queen Story Hour comes to the U.K.” – An American phenomenon is now becoming firmly embedded in this country, says Louise Perry in UnHerd.
  • “Middle-aged white men a ‘pariah’ in television and film, says Christopher Eccleston” – The former Doctor Who actor reveals a struggle to secure work has made him feel like a failure, reports the Telegraph.
  • “NHS to cut diversity and inclusion jobs as Sajid Javid declares war on ‘waste and wokery’ amid record spending” – Staff at NHS trusts have been told to cut “diversity and inclusion” jobs as a landmark report by the Health Secretary outlines plans for the largest shake-up of managements in a generation, reports GB News.
  • “Imam dismissed as No 10’s islamophobia adviser after backing calls to cancel ‘blasphemous’ film” – The Government says it had “no option but to withdraw” Qari Asim’s appointment after he backed the protest against The Lady of Heaven film, according to the Telegraph.
  • “Islamic fundamentalists are using woke tactics to crush free speech” – The recent ‘Lady of Heaven’ protests show how extremists can tap into progressive fixations like victimhood and fragility, says Inaya Folarin Iman in the Telegraph.
  • “School bans girls from wearing skirts under new ‘gender-neutral’ rules” – Tiverton High School in Devon made the controversial change to uniform policy without consulting parents or pupils, reports the Telegraph. Yet again, it seems, women are being erased to satisfy the gender neutral fad.
  • “Boris can’t keep a story straight” – Modern conservatives don’t know how to be free, writes Kathleen Stock in UnHerd as she analyses the tensions in conservativism when it comes to gay rights.
  • “The linguistic war on womankind” – Brendan O’Neill in Spiked on how the word ‘woman’ became verboten in woke society.
  • “A woke meltdown at the Washington Post” – Jenny Holland in Spiked on the bizarre story of Felicia Sonmez, a Washington Post journalist who pushed her woke agitation too far even for that bastion of the far Left and got herself sacked for her trouble.
