News Round-Up

by Will Jones
26 February 2022 11:32 PM

  • “The ghosts of lockdown haunting our streets cannot disappear quickly enough” – Dotted around the public space, we are left with the detritus of disproved theories and hypothesised behavioural cues, writes Juliet Samuel in the Telegraph.
  • “Covid modelling that prompted first U.K. lockdown based on ‘inaccurate’ case numbers” – Scientists did not have accurate Covid case numbers, and were unsure of hospitalisation and death rates when they published models suggesting that more than 500,000 people could die if Britain took no action in the first wave of the pandemic, the Telegraph reports.
  • “CDC Drastically Alters Key Measure That Influences Mask Mandates Across US” – The U.S. CDC on February 25th drastically changed a key measure that is used by officials across the country to determine whether or not to require mask-wearing, reports the Epoch Times.
  • “CDC Says Indoor Masking No Longer Required Just Before Biden’s State of the Union Address” – The indoor use of face masks is no longer required, the CDC said Friday just before President Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, reports Breitbart News.
  • “Ben Carson at CPAC: Saying No to COVID-19 Vaccines for Kids ‘Makes You a Very Good Parent’” – The Epoch Times reports that Carson told the audience of conservatives that risking possible long-term negative effects to children from the COVID-19 vaccine “makes absolutely no sense” because the risk of healthy children dying from the virus is 0.025%. “We have no idea of the long-term effect of these spike proteins are going to be.”
  • “NHS senior managers’ pay has risen by 65% in a decade” – While much of the country faces a cost of living crisis, new figures show that a ‘public sector aristocracy’ continues to thrive, reports the Telegraph.
  • “Fracking was ended on a ‘false pretext’ and should be resumed with ‘vigour’, MPs say” – Some of the tremors used to justify the moratorium on shale gas exploration in Britain were “almost imperceptible”, the U.K. regulator said, according to the Telegraph.
  • “Climate Change, an Emergency, or Not?” – A four-fold increase in CO2 concentrations will increase temperatures by 1°C and it would take around 800 hundred years to reach that point at the current rate of CO2 level increases – and this would offer benefits, such as increased crop yields and greening of desert areas, argues David Coe in Watts up With That?
  • “War in Ukraine has exposed just how shallow the self-obsessed woke world view really is” – The whole edifice of identity politics has created an inward-looking delusion about what really matters, says Zoe Strimpel in the Telegraph.
  • “GCSE English exams ‘uphold whiteness’, teachers told in national body’s seminar” – Teachers were urged to use concepts of white privilege, white fragility and whiteness studies in lessons by the National Association for the Teaching of English (Nate), which counts a third of the country’s secondary schools as members, reports the Telegraph.
