Sweden has decided against authorising Covid vaccines for children aged 5-11, the Health Agency said today, arguing the benefits do not outweigh the risks. Reuters has the story.
Sweden has decided against recommending COVID vaccines for kids aged 5-11, the Health Agency said on Thursday, arguing that the benefits did not outweigh the risks.
“With the knowledge we have today, with a low risk for serious disease for kids, we don’t see any clear benefit with vaccinating them,” Health Agency official Britta Bjorkholm told a news conference.
She added that the decision could be revisited if the research changed or if a new variant changed the pandemic. Kids in high-risk groups can already get the vaccine.
It raises the question: Do the benefits really outweigh the risks for teenagers as well?
Sweden, like many countries, is currently reporting record infections, though this is not translating into pressure on hospitals or high numbers of deaths. Unlike neighbouring Denmark, which is to lift its winter measures, the Swedish Government yesterday extended restrictions, including a restaurant curfew and attendance limits for indoor venues, for two weeks but said it hoped to remove them on February 9th.

The vaccination of 5 – 11 year olds against Covid is not justified because their risk of getting serious symptoms from Covid is very low probably about the same as getting serious side effects from the vaccine. The Swedish health system has recognised this and once again taken the right decision. There is very little publicised information about vaccine side effects in children, probably because the big pharma companie surpress it so they can sell more of it. All my children are adults now and fully vaccinated but if they were in the 5 -11 age group I would not allow them to be vaccinated if I had that choice.

Im wondering how much of a role personal relationships might be playing in this backtracking. So they have decided that a two year old vaccine for a virus variant from two years ago isn’t of any clear benefit to a demographic which has an extremely low probability of serious disease, where the current most prevalent variant presents with common cold symptoms. No sheeit Sherlock.
Disappointing overall moves by Sweden, however.
Last time I checked, there had been only about 10 children’s deaths from or with COVID in the entire nation of Sweden … in 23 months. And probably half of these deaths were NOT caused by COVID but by other co-morbid conditions.
So the mortality risk for children is infinitesimal. And the average age of a COVID victim in Sweden is about 82. I think 90 percent of Covid deaths in Sweden occurred in those over the age of 70.
So, yes, if there is no “health risk” to healthy children in Sweden, there is no reason for these children to be vaccinated. If only more nations realized this.
