Scotland Suffers 48% Decline in Boxing Day Footfall Compared With Pre-Pandemic Levels

by Luke Perry
27 December 2021 5:17 PM

In England, Boxing Day shopping footfall fell by 40% from 2019, whereas Scotland experienced a steeper decline at 48%. BBC News has more.

Shopping footfall in Scotland was 48% below Boxing Day 2019, before the pandemic.

That was a steeper fall than any region of England, where footfall was down 40%.

However, it was more than a three-fold increase on Boxing Day last year in Scotland, with lockdown restrictions being reintroduced.

Across the U.K., suburban and smaller towns did better for shopping activity, while shopping malls did least well.

Apart from the risk of Covid infection, other reasons for the low figures include some shops choosing to close to give staff a further day off, and lower numbers for a Sunday.

On Monday morning, shopper footfall on Scottish high streets and at retail centres was down by 38% on the levels seen two days after Christmas in 2019.

That is a slightly larger drop than the data, from Springboard retail consultancy, for the whole U.K. shows.

Early indications are that people have returned in larger numbers to retail parks to restock groceries following Christmas, while high streets and shopping malls have taken a bigger hit from consumer caution about Covid infection.

Worth reading in full.

“I spent my entire Italian holiday madly searching for EV charging points”

Just imagine the hell EV drivers would enter if their blessed charging points had to provide energy from just windmills and solar panels, instead of from gas, coal, nuclear and oil.

Brilliant idea. You would not see many EVs on UK roads on non-windy, non-sunny days – and we actually get quite a few of those.

If they can find a spare ticket for me, I’d like to go to the Caribbean and apologise for the part my family played in slavery too.

Learn how to use AI or you’ll be replaced by someone who does, says ZDNet.

We have enough trouble using real intelligence. Most people haven’t managed that bit yet.

Someone on YouTube pointed out that to get something decent out of AI really needs the kind of thinking and self-expression skills already associated with well-paid skilled work. That certainly chimes with my experience. If you don’t know what you’re doing already, it won’t produce anything that useful. At least in my line of work (software) it is helpful at taking some of the grunt work out; still just a tool.

More news which gladdens my heart. The death jabs are in the same category as masks, in that they are nothing more than an I.Q test. Aussies have learned a thing or two in the last few years, clearly.

”More than 80 per cent of vaccinated adults haven’t had a COVID-19 booster shot in the past six months, despite newer bivalent vaccines delivering significantly higher protection against severe disease and hospitalisation.
That includes more than half of people over the age of 65, who are urged to get a shot if they haven’t had an infection or vaccination in six months, according to the latest advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation. All other adults should consider a booster ahead of a possible late spring wave.”

‘Significantly higher protection’? What is ‘significantly higher’ than zero.

“What is ‘significantly higher’ than zero.”

The injections are poisons and so their effects are wholly negative. Not zero – negative.

Ironman athletes have always historically drowned during their competitions. It’s a sign they haven’t practiced enough in the water before the big day. Amateurs.

”Tragedy struck triathlon on Sunday when two athletes died during IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland in Cork.
IRONMAN Ireland confirmed the terrible news on their social media channels shortly after 12noon UK time, with the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of two race participants at the IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland, Cork, 2023. During the swim portion of Sunday’s race, safety personnel provided immediate medical attention upon recognising the athletes were in need of assistance.”

Jesus fecking wept, it’s summer and who in their right mind routinely tests for a cold virus anyway??!

”A Dublin hospital has reintroduced visitor restrictions following a COVID outbreak as fears over the new Eris variant grow.
The news arrives as the HSE confirmed on Tuesday that there are currently 435 COVID cases in Irish hospitals with 12 of them in ICU at this time.

Following the outbreak in the hospital’s Swan Ward, patients are now only permitted one visitor each while no children are allowed in.
Urging anyone who visits to ‘please wear a mask if requested by a member of staff’, the hospital has told those with any COVID symptoms not to visit.
The visitors have also been instructed to ‘please wear a mask if requested by a member of staff’, and have been discouraged from visiting if they are experiencing symptoms of the virus such as a sore throat, cough, temperature or shortness of breath.”

MD4CE meeting’s guest was Dolores Cahill who was talking about her & her family’s experiences which led her to where she is today – fascinating – & about solutions to all of this theatre. All you have to understand is that in law you have the right to refuse a medical intervention & that there are simple ways to stop this bullying, because ultimately that’s what it is.
Recording isn’t yet published – discussion was still ongoing gone midnight when I logged off! May take Charles a little while to edit it, but well worth a watch.

Thanks again. I saw Delores Cahill at the Better Way Conference this year and she’s a really good speaker, clear and succinct in her 10 min slot unlike some of the less experienced contributors.
Enjoyed the Jason Christoff presentation to MD4CE you mentioned last week, especially the q+a. He sticks to the point and doesn’t mess around with all the caveats about Covid, vaccines, race, sex or whatever that most commentators feel they must say to avoid being cancelled.

Dolores is just a brilliant woman!
So pleased to be able to share the wealth of knowledge that I’m privileged to access each week. Share the link.
Jason Christoff is another brilliant mind who is able to succinctly impart a wealth of information.
I’ll keep posting links & information to give you the heads up on who has presented.
The meeting finally ended at 2:57am after an 8pm start! I gave up at midnight as was frazzled & brain dead by then! Have a lot of meeting to catch up on!!

“who in their right mind routinely tests for a cold virus anyway?”

I think there are some people with a large stockpile of tests who test themselves when they get the sniffles, tell people the results and stay at home until they get a negative test result. I think they do this because that’s what you did “during covid” and not to do it now would be an admission to themselves that the whole thing was nonsense, and they are not yet ready to admit that.

Sadiq Khan is facing calls to apologise after his website said a photograph of a white family “doesn’t represent real Londoners”

Whoever runs against Khan in the next election should commission some precise polling to find out exactly the demographics that react negatively to Khan’s anti white racism and then flog this statement to death with those groups

https://www.dw.com/en/nearly-two-thirds-of-germans-want-new-government-poll-says/a-66578369

A survey shows nearly two-thirds of voters want to pull the plug on Germany’s ruling coalition. The poll comes immediately after figures that show most Germans are unhappy with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his government.
As many as 64% of Germans who answered in the survey released on Saturday said a change of government would make the country a better place.
The poll, for the mass-circulation newspaper Bild, comes the day after a separate survey found that most Germans were dissatisfied with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the coalition.
Only 22% of those surveyed by the polling agency INSA said they thought an election would not benefit Germany.

More bad news for coalition A day earlier, the “Politbarometer” poll published by Germany’s Forschungsgruppe Wahlen (Elections Research Group) on behalf of the public broadcaster ZDF also showed voter dissatisfaction with Scholz.
It found that 51% were unhappy with his performance in office and that 58% thought the government was doing a poor job.
One silver lining for the chancellor was that just over half of Germans thought a government led by the opposition conservatives would not do any better.
There was historically weak support for Scholz’s SPD, too. Only 19% said they would vote for the party if an election was imminent, with the Greens on 15% and the FDP on 7%.

Really good Russel Brand episode..about CBDC…and the incremental changes being brought about by banks…..this is something that is also happening in the UK..in my nearest town we had several banks, we now have one….and probably not for much longer….

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u55U8C2-ep0

As Australia makes steps to becoming a cashless society and moves towards CBDCs, how much is this about unprecedented level of government control and social credit scores, and is Australia merely a pilot scheme?

A crime-ridden, lawless Democratic city is being asked to limit shooting their guns in the streets to nighttime.
Chicago Democratic alderwoman Maria Hadden asked gang members to refrain from shootouts between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. to reduce the risk to people “not involved in high-risk activities.”

No they haven’t. Their rate payers have. Not to mention the increasing percentage of our rates that go to fund pensions for these shysters. Recent article in the Speccy say an MIT paper on homeworking suggests an 18% drop in productivity
