A leaked Whitehall document has revealed that, early next year, the Government will reduce its direct involvement in fighting the virus, scaling back some of the measures it has introduced as it now considers the disease to be endemic. These include removing the legal requirement for those who test positive to self-isolate for 10 days, shutting down the ‘Test and Trace’ system, as well as various other changes. The Mail on Sunday has the story.
In the documents, experts say Covid will remain at “endemic” levels for years and that mutant strains of the virus will also “remain a very real risk”. But, crucially, the Government’s central planning assumption, described as the “leaving soon'” scenario, predicts there will be “no winter resurgence” of the virus.
The revelations come as the number of new Covid cases plunged by more than a quarter in just over three weeks, from 52,009 a day to 38,351, and more than 12 million people have had their booster vaccines.
The leaked ‘Rampdown’ plans will be hailed by business owners and families exhausted by Britain’s two-year battle against the virus.
Professor Robert Dingwall of Nottingham Trent University, one of the U.K.’s leading sociologists and a former Government adviser, said: “I very much welcome the fact that people are planning for the end of the emergency and the restoration of everyday life. Treating Covid like any other respiratory infection should encourage people to dial down the fear and anxiety that have bedevilled the country for the past couple of years.”
But one Whitehall source has told the Mail on Sunday that some systems for monitoring the spread of the disease have already been shut down, sparking alarm among top Government scientists.
Another source also said large numbers of health experts who have led the fight against the virus for 18 months are “just walking away” from the Government, resulting in a huge “loss of knowledge”.
“It’s totally over, in the minds of Ministers,” the source said. “But what happens if a new variant arrives and they have just shut down the whole national infrastructure? Are we retaining enough knowledge from the £37 billion investment over the past two years? I really don’t think we are.”
The ‘Rampdown’ strategy is being hammered out as part of a six-week review of the Government’s ‘test, trace and isolate regime’ by officials at the U.K. Health Security Agency, a new body headed by former Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jenny Harries.
The documents reveal that the officials are examining “what activities can we start ramping down before April?” and what the “end state” of Britain’s response to Covid should be after April.
Their conclusions are due to be finalised by Dr. Harries and other key officials this weekend before being submitted to Health Secretary Sajid Javid. It is likely the Government will unveil the plan by the end of the year, unless there is a resurgence of cases caused by an unmanageable new strain of the virus.
Crucially, the documents reveal that Ministers are set to abandon attempts to stop Covid spreading “at all costs”.
Instead, health officials will judge future policies against the same kind of cost-benefit analysis used to decide whether the NHS can afford expensive new drugs.
“We will no longer be prioritising the previous objectives of breaking chains of transmission at all costs,” one document stated.

I agree with what some others have said. It’s them speaking with ‘forked tongue’. As to the Tesco ad, I don’t agree with Toby at all!! In any case, it’s immoral to promote the vaccine passport in any way, shape or form, even if it is ‘only’ to cross the border. Thin end of wedge!
Whitty declared the pandemic was over in May/June 20020, stating it was then at epidemic levels. This is confirmed by the SAGE minutes. The global genetics pattern of variation of virus types (clades) also confirms this. There was (and still is) a pseudo-epdidemic generated by by unwarrented testing of healthy people using dubious tests run by for-profit organisations (no conflict of interest there, that’s sure). He then went on to say the disease was at endemic status in easly 2021. Yet the coerced administration of experimental drugs went ahead as though the pandemic was still there. There are some 18,000 vaxxine induced deaths according to VAERS/etc.
The government is pulling the plug because Big Pharma have got all the epidemiological data they need for the testing of their mRNA drug delivery system, the public are increasingly wary of further vaxxination, and the public can be scammed into taking daily doses of Pfizermectin (or whatever it is called) at 10x (guesstimate) of the cost of the off-patent drug as a fall-back. Plus there may be elections coming/increasing Party dissent are making things tricky for the incumbents.
Meanwhile across in Wales we still have passports and masks. By March they will have proved, even to the densest 1st Minister, to be utterly counterproductive. So, of course, we must double down on them ready for our 2nd booster. Passports will be needed for anything but small essential shops and without a passport nothing deemed (again) by Drip Drakeford as unnessetial such as ladies personal health items or books cannot be allowed.
As cases fall we will also need to impose alcohol curfews.
Nothing of course to do with health but being unfortunate enough to live in f’ing Wales.

Ivermectin has long been used in India to counter endemic parasitic disease such as filiarisis (not fatal but very disfiguring). It has a remarkably low adverse reaction rate. The Indian government even proposed doing a ‘flouride’ on it to ensure it was taken by everyone. It is a WHO-listed essential drug. The covid link was discovered accidentally when those taking it seemed less suscepitble to covid.
It is cheap, effective and off-patent. It would take priority over experimental drugs in the hierarchy of drugs to be considered for covid if it hadn’t conveniently been trashed by TheSciene-tists testing at 10-100x the recommended dose. Big Pharma stood to lose billions if Ivermectin had been used.
It is good to see investigation into a plausible mechanism for its efficacy.
‘At all costs’ was their policy? Are they admitting they grossly exaggerated any threat and screwed up the whole country?
No. They will never admit that. Just wait for the whitewash “enquiry”.
The enquiry will conclude that broadly the government did everything right, and although in hindsight it can be seen that they should have imposed lockdowns several weeks earlier (the ‘evidence’ for this will be pie-in-the-sky modelling), that can only be seen in hindsight and they always acted absolutely correctly according to the information available to them at the time.
Does that cover it?
