Apple has reportedly suspended production of vegan phone cases it started selling less than a year ago following a backlash against their poor durability. The Telegraph has more.
The tech giant is said to have stopped making its FineWoven cases and watch straps following complaints that the £59 cases would become easily scratched and worn out.
Apple introduced the material, a ‘microtwill’ made up of recycled textiles and other fibres, last September when it announced that it would no longer produce leather accessories as part of an environmental push.
The business has committed to its supply chain being completely carbon neutral by 2030.
When it introduced the FineWoven cases and watch bands, which cost between £99 and £149, Apple said they had a “sophisticated look” and a “significantly lower carbon footprint than leather”.
However, the accessories have been plagued by complaints that they deteriorate after a few days of use, with scratches and scuffs remaining on the fabric and the cases attracting dust and fluff. Others have complained that the cases are slippery compared to their leather predecessors.
The cases are frequently returned, according to their Amazon listing.
It’s almost as if we use leather for a reason.

“Vegan” phone cases, otherwise known as Things Made Out Of Plant Fibres, which have been around since Year dot (for things that work when made out of plant fibres, at least). Is everything non-animal related now going to be rebranded as vegan? Come get your vegan apples! We only sell plant-based carrots etc. On that note does anyone else find the phrase “plant-based” really quite annoying?
So Apple won’t sell leather products due to environmental considerations but will continue to use plastics, rare earth metals and ship goods all over the world. Total hypocrisy, if they want to save the planet make tofu not electronics.
A good environmentalist would knit their own.

Of course the real crime here is that Hope not Hate are even allowed to exist as a charidee. Doubtless it does provide some of its supporters with a useful money laundering outlet. Somebody should be sacked for allowing a clearly political and nasty organisation the liberty of tax-free charitable status. Obviously the shit stirrers comprising its ranks serve a useful purpose for TPTB.
I’ve got an iPhone – they seem pretty good at what they do to me – but I would never buy any Apple accessories as they seem hugely overpriced. There are tons of cases to suit every need available for much less money from 3rd party providers. I don’t know anyone who buys Apple accessories.
Well obviously while we are still allowed to eat meat there will be hides available but they must be disposed of somehow and not used sensibly as we have done for thousands of years.
I hope Apple have copped a cold on this. Woke tossers.
