Andrew Bridgen quit as Laurence Fox’s Reclaim party’s only MP today over “a difference in direction”.
The North West Leicestershire MP said he had to put his constituents first with an election approaching “in the first half of next year”.
Bridgen joined Reclaim in May after being kicked out of the Conservatives for alleged antisemitism after writing on social media that the Covid vaccine rollout is “the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust”. Bridgen has denied that the statement is antisemitic and is suing Matt Hancock for defamation after the former Health Secretary accused him of spouting “antisemitic, anti-vax, anti-scientific conspiracy theories”.
He will now sit as an independent.
Bridgen has been tireless in raising concerns in Parliament about Covid vaccine safety and the plight of the vaccine injured. Earlier this month he hosted a meeting at which international medical experts spoke to MPs and peers about the evidence on Covid vaccine harms.
In a statement Mr. Bridgen said:
This morning, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to resign from the Reclaim Party.
I would first of all like to thank Laurence and all of the team at Reclaim who have been excellent and supported me wholeheartedly for the last nine months.
I have come to this decision purely because of a difference in the direction of the party, I will still wholeheartedly support the policies and values of the Reclaim party and wish them all of the best in their future endeavours
However, I need to make a very important decision with a general election pending in the first half of next year.
I need to put North West Leicestershire first, above any party allegiance.
Laurence Fox said the Reclaim party remains “hugely supportive” of Mr. Bridgen’s campaigning on “a number of issues” and wished him “every success” in the election.
Details of the difference in direction between the MP and his now former party have not been made public at this time.
