Starmer Will Block All New North Sea Oil and Gas Developments

by Toby Young
28 May 2023 11:00 AM

Keir Starmer will announce plans shortly to block all new North Sea oil and gas developments and limit borrowing to green investment only as part of a Labour blueprint to make Britain a “clean energy superpower”. The Sunday Times has more.

The Labour leader is expected to set out his net zero energy policy when he launches his latest “national mission” in Scotland next month. It will include a pledge to ban all new North Sea oil and gas licences, signalling a seismic shift in decades of U.K. energy policy.

It will be one of Starmer’s five key pledges to the electorate and opens up a clear dividing line with the Conservative Party over a critical issue facing the U.K. as next year’s general election approaches. Rishi Sunak has backed further oil and gas exploration in the country’s energy security strategy.

Starmer will also announce that a Labour government would only borrow to invest in green enterprises, another dramatic departure from policies enacted by successive U.K. governments. The Labour source added: “We’ll set out our fiscal plans in full at the election, showing how we will invest in jobs and industries of the future while meeting our fiscal rules.”

The party expects the plan to create up to half a million jobs in the renewables industry, including at least 50,000 in Scotland. The move is expected to offset developments in the dwindling North Sea oil and gas fields that directly employ more than 20,000 workers and provide an estimated further 200,000 jobs onshore.

Under the “green prosperity” plan, Labour is aiming to double onshore wind, triple solar and more than quadruple offshore wind power. The party has committed to creating a publicly owned renewable energy company whose aim is to achieve a zero-carbon power system by 2030.

However, Starmer’s decision to turn off the taps in the North Sea is not expected to come without challenges amid fears it could force the U.K. to place more reliance on energy imported from countries such as Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Currently, the UK meets about 45% of its gas needs from domestic energy generation, reducing its dependence on overseas vendors with higher emissions. Despite the continued rise in renewables, however, 85% of British homes still rely on gas boilers for heat and 42% of the U.K.’s electricity comes from gas.

Worth reading in full.

Stop Press 2: A new oil field is in doubt following Keir Starmer’s unveiling of his new “green prosperity” plan. The Telegraph has more.

Starmer doesn’t really know what he is doing as he believes he’s correct in this. Believing he is not the same a being correct, especially if he is just going along with what he thinks everyone else believes.
Here is a graph showing global energy consumption by source in TWh. Coal, oil and gas are shown as black, nuclear as red, hydro as blue and wind, solar and other ‘renewables’ as green. Please notice the sizes across all countries and where the UK sits within this data. China’s non carbon energy production dwarfs just about all other countries with the exception of the US, except China’s proportion of renewables is much the same as everywhere else and all nations will have trouble replacing coal, oil and gas with ‘renewables’.

It’s hard to decide whether he is mentally ill, really that stupid or just evil. But then that applies to most of the political class.

Without a doubt. In other words a traitor.

Lord Frost’s speech was welcome insofar as one believes CO2 is a critical problem. Many of us doubt the colourless, odourless, largely inert gas in 400 parts per million is of any consequence.

Once the point on CO2 (otherwise known as plant food) is conceded, the net zero argument is lost.

Just Stop Oil and XR must be having multiple orgasms over this news. We all know that Starmer will do his best to implement the plans of the WEF after all he himself said that he would rather do business in Davos than Westminster. A concerted strategy will be launched sometime between now and the next GE to sink the Tories. You can bet your bottom dollar or yuan that the media will get right behind and will lead this attack. They will begin a slow process of indoctrinating the masses – the idle, ignorant masses sadly – so that when polling day comes, they’ll flock like turkeys to the Christmas table. Starmer must be stopped, his lies uncovered and his true intentions revealed. If he is not stopped, we will endure the very worst type of totalitarianism. He is indeed a traitor and we know what happens to traitors.

I think the assumption that Fishy and his gang are actually running the Conservative party is a mistake easily made. The reality I believe is that a WEF committee somewhere is running British politics / government. It is a fallacy to believe that Fishy and Co are not well aware that what they are doing to this country will lead to massive electoral losses at the next GE. So why are they pursuing such a suicidal course? The bottom line is that the Davos Deviants need to perpetuate an illusion of democracy for as long as possible or at least until the point where our enslavement is virtually complete, the point where the keys can be thrown away. The point where Digital ID, CBDC, the ghettos are matters of fact and no longer just their wishful thinking. And to achieve this the people of this country must vote for their own enslavement.

Kneel therefore has to offer a grim future but only for vague and in typical Labour fashion definitely unfunded policies, so no new investment in the North Sea which will actually become a complete shutdown. Immigration will be largely ignored save for airy fairy nonsense about ‘duty to help others,’ while at the same time lambasting the Tories for allowing unrestricted immigration. A pseudo political game of good cop, bad cop.

So the country votes Labour knowing we will get a crap deal but hey it can’t be worse than the Tories and Kneel, under orders from his WEF handlers will unleash the mother of all Totalitarian governments and probably on the back of some worldwide emergency, maybe even one of those number nine pandemics that we are hearing so much about lately. That’s Democracy in action you see.

The illusion of Democracy has to be unveiled and if we cannot achieve this then our future is very dark and very bleak.

I think it’s highly likely that many ministers, maybe all of them, know they are doing the wrong thing for the country and will lose the next election. I do not believe they are so stupid as not to see that.

You are right of course, HP. Governments are not run by politicians any longer, they are in thrall to unelected international bodies pushing agendas. To beat this, we must take it local and RESIST! And never ever comply!

The only reason people vote Tory is because they are terrified of Labour. Fishi portrays himself as a sort of net-zero -light, but in fact they are just about the same as Labour. No real choice. One of the smaller parties needs to come through but I’m not holding my breath.

Oil and gas are not just used for fuel, they are the raw materials used for just about everything from adhisives, electronics, drugs (some are good), to all types of vehicles. Ban oil and gas and you end production of all the things we consider essential for modern life. Pure insanity.

Starmer is one of those squirmers who would be puffing on a large spliff on live TV if he thought there were votes in it.———–How he thinks there is votes in impoverishing people is a mystery to me but it seems most of the political class are convinced there is as none of them questioned NET ZERO at all. It simply was waved through.

Why would starmer or any other politician block access to energy? Is there something wrong with this man?

Thus, Starmer is joining Stalin and Mao in impoverishing and starving the population. I would say he was deranged, but Peter Hitchens has pointed out that Starmer is a graduate of an extremely weird Marxist fringe organisation and that Starmer has said on numerous occasions that he’s never changed in his beliefs. Once again, it’s a case of where do we flee from our doomed country? And to make things worse, our maxi-millionaire PM, Sunak, is no friend of exploiting the plentiful fuel sources beneath our feet.
