The BBC has issued an apology after it admitted that captions it put up during the debate on excess deaths in Britain led by Reclaim MP Andrew Bridgen were “biased”. The Express has more.
The adjournment debate called by Reclaim and former Tory MP Andrew Bridgen was linked to concerns he has been raising about the impact of COVID-19 vaccines.
Throughout his speech, which Mr. Bridgen has claimed was carefully researched, the BBC Parliament channel ran a series of captions purporting to correct what he was saying.
After complaints were made the BBC today issued a statement accepting they had acted in a biased way.
A spokesman said: “We accept there was a lack of consistency in the use of our captions and that the number posted during the speech was not proportionate, nor always relevant which created the incorrect impression that there was an editorial approach in relation to the views expressed.
“We apologise for this and are reviewing the way we use such captions during proceedings.”
A source at the Reclaim Party has told the Express that the plan now is to sue the BBC after it admitted bias.
Worth reading in full.
Bridgen has also asked why he was expelled from the Conservatives for alleged “antisemitism” (he said he agreed that the Covid vaccines were the “biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust”) but Crispin Blunt, who said Hamas had “legitimate targets”, is still a Tory MP. Good question. It’s almost as though the Tory leadership don’t actually care about antisemitism but just weaponising it against troublesome MPs.

I used to really enjoy ‘Have I got News For You’ back in the 90s. I also used to enjoy programmes like Country File and Dr Who back in the day (with David Tennant). Then I found that even programmes like Gardeners World (previously relaxing and informative) were preaching at me, and made me feel that I was not using my viewing time to be entertained, but re-educated. This made me feel uncomfortable, so I turned off and I no longer watch BBC 1 at all. The BBC get billions of our money to indulge themselves, with very little regard to actual entertainment value. They should be defunded, perhaps then they will learn that theres no money to be made from being woke – it just puts people’s backs up. Nobody likes being patronised.
The BBC seems to me basically a political/”social justice” campaigning organisation using the cover and revenue of being a news/entertainment provider to give them reach and funding.
It should be disbanded, not defunded, because after defunding it will retain the advantage it has as the trusted state broadcaster for decades.
As I posted the other day, having a state owned broadcaster is a terrible idea. We don’t have state owned newspapers – but they did in the Soviet Union.
I caught an old episode of The Unbelievable Truth the other day, I’m not sure how old, but a few minutes in the panellist started making ‘jokes’ about Brexit along the same lines of how thick and racist all Brexit voters were. And of course the Shepherd’s Bush bien pensant audience all clapped like seals, as did the other panellists. I had to turn it off. It’s ridiculous when even a light-hearted programme which doesn’t purport to be political (at least with Mock the Week you kind of know they’re going to talking about that stuff) can’t resist having a pop.
Your final paragraph is absolutely spot-on. Well said.
A really good thing one can do to a TV is unplug-then-bin. I did this sometimes in the mid-1990s and never regretted it.
If it were not for Mrs M I would have done the same years ago.
That’s a fine article and a good read. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Frank Boyle and that Lineker twat were consigned to the ranks of the unemployed ?
“Boyle has accordingly had a volte-face: in his stand-up he’s now a pious guardian and solemn scolder of others. No wonder he’s also not funny any more.”
…erm shurely some mistake.
I am not aware Boyle was ever funny – a thoroughly detestable piece of shyte.
The Lineker twat is being paid £1,350.000 pa, courtesy of the BBC licence fee. Time it was abolished. And him too.
Absolutely agree.
I hope you won’t mind if I edit your piece a little?

“Readers of the Daily Sceptic probably won’t have heard of Frankie Boyle”. Are you kidding Toby???
Lennie Bruce and Bill Hicks are great of course, but you fail to mention perhaps the greatest of them all – George Carlin!
Seeing Lineker dashing for the ‘context’ excuse is the funniest thing on the interweb in a long, long time.
My favourite George Carlin line… “Imagine how stupid the average person is, then remember for them to be the average, half of everyone else needs to be even more stupid.”
Indeed! He was the Socrates of Stand-up!

There is no such thing as subversive comedy as comedy is the art (replacement) form of post-modern consumer society. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter and merits no oh-so-unfunny serious thought. Make a crude joke about something, laugh carthartically, forget about it, repeat.
Funny situation I feel like putting here. That’s a translated paraphrase from a book about world war one whose name and author I’m not going to mention:
A frequent source of complaints was that our (the German) artillery would often fire into our own trenches although the artillerists always strenuously denied that. One day, an artillery observer showed up in the front line. With an air of self-rightous importance, he installed a binocular perioscope on the parapet. Turning to us, he said”Now, you shall see how our artillery really shoots!” and then crouched behind it. The next thing which happened was a flash and a loud bang. The perioscope whirled through the air and he was never to be seen again. Despite the situation was actually really tragic, we all had to laugh out loudly.

Toby stop thinking that sceptics are all right -wing. There are a lot of libertarian lefties shocked by covid control-freakery, sick to the gills of green millennialist sanctimony, and affronted by the narcissism of identity politics. That’s why we are comfortable listening to right wing baldies like you Dellingpole and Evans. Lets retrieve the term “free thinkers” for all of us who want to be outside the tedious, tent of todays totalising trendies. I passed Thomas Carlyle’s Birthplace of Ecclefechan today and to all of them i would say Ecclefeckem!
Good for you!
Anybody else ever noticed the Boyle has never mocked Islam or the prophet Muhammad. He fears for his meaningless life, is why
