New data show reported Covid infections in New Zealand and Singapore have overtaken Australia in the latest Omicron wave despite ultra-strict mask mandates that were dropped in Australia. MailOnline has the story under the headline: “The astonishing data that may prove masks don’t work.”
Masks are worn everywhere in the densely-populated Asian city while New Zealanders are forced to wear them in all indoor public places, such as shopping centres and libraries.
But both now have higher case numbers per million than Australia, where compulsory mask rules have been abandoned in most indoor settings.
These figures appear to smash the push now on in Australia for a return to mask mandates, which are currently compulsory only on public transport and in aged care and healthcare centres.
Since Australian mandates began to ease last October, per capita case numbers in Singapore exceeded, matched or lagged behind Australia, before rising ahead again.
In New Zealand, case numbers were six weeks behind Australia’s Omicron wave in January, but since February they have matched or exceeded Australia.
Death rates in New Zealand also overtook Australia per capita at the start of March, despite the Kiwis being on the highest code red mask mandate restrictions – and have stayed higher ever since.
In Singapore, death rates dropped below Australia in April after racing ahead between October and Christmas, but are now surging wildly and are set to overtake Australia once more.
The Singapore findings were shared on Twitter by Australian National University infectious diseases professor Peter Collignon as debate rages on the need for masks.
The post, originally made by a Singapore resident, added: “Singapore has never dropped its mask mandates. Masks are required indoors at all times. Australians aren’t wearing masks much at all. Let’s compare the data.”
Next to a graph of the statistics, he added: “It doesn’t matter.”
Of course, this is only the latest example that shows masks do little or nothing to prevent the spread of airborne viruses, and may make things worse.

Found this, and couldn’t think of anything more ironic
It’s just laughable – Smug Hermit Kingdom of 2020 and 2021 – now look at us. And so many just don’t connect the dots. It will all be blamed on those who are not “following the rules”. I never wear a mask here in NZ. The other day in the supermarket I walked past an elderly couple who shrunk away from me, pressing themselves up against the cheese chiller in an effort to avoid the plague carrier passing by with a smile on her face. “Keep away, keep away” they said, their voices muffled by the blue surgical masks loosely draped over their mouth and nose, their eyes peering out fearfully over the top of them. I have lost patience with these people. How the hell do they think they they managed to get into their 80s without wearing masks for 79 of those years?
It’s truly astonishing how gullible most people are, and sad to see how this has been taken advantage of by people with an agenda. We laugh about medieval talismans being used to ward off evil spirits, and yet here we are.
Guess it’s worth keeping up these stories but masking is a cult, as seen by looking at Germany who plan to bring them back every winter. There was NEVER any evidence masks made enough difference to be worth the gigantic cost, and in any case I AM NOT BLOODY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT VIRUSES DO. I WANT TO LIVE LIKE THE NORMAL SOCIAL ANIMAL THAT I WAS BORN AS.
I wonder if there has ever been any evidence of any animals forced to wear masks getting any benefit from it?
Add the bacteria to their incorrect handling by 99% of the population to the Foegen effect and its main role and purpose as Gessler hat and you have an explanation for this and a perfect tool for voluntary mass depopulation.
Certainly part of the conditioning process – if the aim was to suppress individuality, which I suspect was part of the thinking; in order to bring Western populations more in line with Chinese-style society.
I think we can all tell from that photo why Jacinda favours masks. She actually looks relatively attractive with half her face covered (the horse half).

I can’t decide if staff are too lazy to read scientific papers, too stupid to understand them or too compliant to say to anyone in charge “Masks do not work to reduce transmission of covid. They have been shown to increase infections ( particularly in immunocompromised as a recent study showed) and have other adverse effects (eg build up of bacteria on inside of mask and increased carbon dioxide levels) which on balance means wearing them is more damaging to health than not wearing them”.
Based on my ‘real life’ numbers I only know only one person currently with ‘the Vid’, compared to 16 three to four weeks ago so the peak here has past. Which of course will be because of masks.

It’s a clown show here in NZ. You would think that having “kicked the can down the road” for 18 months it would give the “powers that be” a chance to observe the failures from overseas and act accordingly. But, no, we are now experiencing the same bullshit other places around the world went through 12 – 18 months ago. Our Covid-19 Response Minister (yes, we have a dedicated minister for this purpose) exhorting everyone to “test test test”. The televised message from our Ministry of Disease for protecting ourselves this winter is to “mask up, get your vaccinations and test”. That’s it. The only way for NZ humans to look after their health this winter is to cover over the entrances to their upper respiratory tract immune systems, jab themselves up to the eyeballs, and perform very unreliable RAT tests on a daily basis, whether or not they’re symptomatic. And even though there’s no mask “mandate” for outdoors, you see morons out in the wind (constant in NZ) and rain sporting their useless surgical and cloth masks. I have written endless emails to various govt ministers, journalists, government organisations etc etc with well-referenced information about the uselessness of mask mandates and it does diddly-squat. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall. As I said – a bloody clown show. Take me to the April sun in Cuba – or anywhere where this nonsense has ended.
Absolutely feel your pain. I think that in the UK, we have to thank our lucky stars that for whatever reason, we just weren’t so fascistic about masking. Yes they were ‘compulsory’ but many of us simply ignored this; I’ve never once put one on and carried on largely as normal with only a couple of incidents in which I was awkwardly and not very effectively challenged. Have to assume that if they come back this winter, it’ll be more of the same. Having watched in horror the mask zealotry in Aus/NZ, I’m very thankful I wasn’t over there during this period (I used to live in Australia). Currently considering a move to Vietnam, but I’m sure it’ll be a similar story over there – mindless unquestioning masking at all times, which I’m not prepared to do and certainly wouldn’t want for my kids. I can’t believe that parent and teachers around the world have been putting young children in masks, I will never forgive this, I find it absolutely disgusting. Why can’t people see how wrong this is?
