My part (soon to be fully) vaccinated fiancé wants to take a trip to Rome. As I am un-vaccinated I seemingly can't go as it sounds like Italy is imposing Vaxports on people. Does anyone know any ways (legitimate or shady I'm not bothered) to be able to get around the requirement?

You can use the HacknTrace website (wherever it lives this week) to generate a fake vaccine cert with QR code.
That *might* work.

I would say, in a somewhat defeatist moment "don't bother;  that is one of their aims - stopping people travelling". Any logical set of rules would acknowledge there might at worst be a requirement for a negative test - if lateral flow tests are good enough for other domestic uses then why not for unvaccinated travellers?

Alternatively, it's incumbent on us to challenge the illogical nature and exercise of the rules by all means available so we can go back to normal.

It's on the cusp of feasibility depending on your vaccine status. For example Spain works, so does Portugal and the islands of both. Bit more of a pain with regard to additional quarantine in the UK and in essence two extra tests if you want to end the period early (day 5 on top of day 8) but that boils down to the extra cost and hassle versus a vaccinated traveller.

I'm not clear on the new traffic light system but it looks like 'green' travel destinations will be effectively be amber for those unvaccinated. Totally unscientific of course but we know that already. Carrot and stick for the masses who have been vaccinated.

Day 5 release is England only.  It was never adopted by the even more draconian regional governments.

(Also Scotland is keeping mandatory PCR on return, Wales has said everyone should still do it but nothing official yet).

The new system does effectively make green go amber for unvaccinated (which is likely the goal here in reality).

From what ive seen so far coming back in, there is no direct computer check of your vaccine status.  You simply enter it yourself on the PLF and upload a copy (so open to forgery).

Once the PLF is generated the only checks actually done at airports appear to be the name and DOB on the PLF match the passport.

The PLF doesn't check test codes are valid so you can use RANDX123456 or whatever and pass that.  Its not verified or linked to a person.
