So two realistic reports in the social media today, both accept the stalemate in Ukraine as a simple fact of life, the first from Clare Daley simply reiterates that  the US is perfectly satisfied with prolonged  war activity in Ukraine, since it gives them the opportunity to (in their own words)  weaken Russia, and to do that , the US accepts almost any level of collateral damage to Russia, Ukraine and/or Europe. And the EU seems willing to 'take one for the team', as it is called.  The UK govt. will not even debate the matter fairly:

So it is lining us  up with the US to take one for the team as well, prioritizing NATO solidarity over  extreme  price shocks for ordinary  people, I vaguely agree with Clare that sanctions seem unlikely to stop the war, since Putin is quite happy to see a prolonged  war  in Ukraine, since it gives Russia the circumstances where they have always triumphed in the past , the wars of attrition, the worst of all wars. Like WW1 and Vietnam.

And the second report is from Avril Haines, a top US spy, who likewise only sees things getting worse.

So there they are  two short realistic reports, neither side cares about the costs of the long war, and both want to keep it going, the US for economic reasons, Russia for political ones. The hawks have won, Gird your loins for another Vietnam, which lasted 20 years and cost 3.5 million lives.
