It's been repeatedly stated by the UK government that the vaccinated can still become infected & pass on infection. Here's an article that spells it out.
It looks like our rulers will tell us that the vaccines will "last" for 9 months, before they insist on them being "topped up" somehow or the other. This is the standard being set in Austria, while in the UK we have our very own currently failing NHS 6-month "booster" campaign.
Evidence that emerging variants (eg. Omicron) evade the vaccine is already coming in & more will pile up. After all, it's what Darwin would predict & he's reliable. See here.
The long-term side effects are certainly unknown, that's the consequence of their hasty production & also why big-pharma insisted on protection from legal liability. They know full well the risks they are taking with our lives. Let's hope there's nothing too wide spread but it has to be remembered that even vaccines that have been through 5 years of tests have serious side effects for some unlucky individuals.
Yes vaccine efficacy wanes with time, but you need to consider "efficacy of what"? The prevention of transmission or infection does not drop to nothing, as a simple sentence can suggest. The prevention of serious illness and death holds up really very well.
Since ~8 billion doses have been given worldwide, any potential long term side effects would have started to emerge by now. That's a pretty big clinical trial!
So how do you judge a massive trial over a shorter period against a tiny trial over a longer period?
In real life, not all instances of long term effects arrive at the same time across a population. In all likelihood, it would be normally distributed, with a quite large standard deviation. The lower end of the curve would be showing itself..

As far is omicron is concerned, then any claimed data is insignificant at the moment. Transmissibility is high it seems, but for severity and vaccine effectiveness we will need to wait.
