I hope they find an antidote for the vaccines that returns the immune system to normal.

@thinkharder be careful with what you wish for! Maybe this is in the form of yet vaccine and we all know what the sceptics on here would say to that?

Well all apart from the insane would hope for a cure to this illness . It appears that the insane have gathered at  daily sceptics to oppose ideas of a cure.

@lordsnooty Isn’t that a bit like expecting a cure for Vinal rhinitis or any other rhinovirus? Does there come a time when, considering the collateral damage of NPIs being used to suppress the virus, we have to learn to live with it?

Nope, it's not like expecting something. It is hoping for something which is different from execting it.

Yes, that time could come.

Given the science of rhinovirus and influenza over recent history, hoping for something reminds me of the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.
Meanwhile, the collateral damage of NPIs is already too high for most poor and vulnerable people around the world: mental illness at historic levels especially among children, disrupted education that will never been recovered, hundreds of millions falling below the poverty line of $1.50 a day, debt levels at historic levels that will afflict generations to come, untreated conditions and excess deaths from diseases like cancer, bankrupt businesses. That’s all before we recognize that the costs associated with QALYs far exceeds any the NHS would normally accept for treatment protocols. Let alone the loss of civil liberties and community cohesion.I could go on, but the point is this. You may not be suffering enough to believe the costs of NPIs are not yet excessive enough to warrant society learning to live with it, but billions of people around the world are. Including now it seems a majority of people in England.

If you think that, then by definition you would be incompletely hopeless, instead of just mostly hopeless.

, the collateral damage of NPIs is already too high

That is why I was hoping a pharmaceutical intervention might work instead if non-pharmaceutical interventions do not, as you say.

Or do you say that ALL interventions of all kinds are guaranteed in advance to be  futile. btw: paxlovid seems to work in trials, so it is not mad to hope.

So is it mad to search for useful medicine? Should we give up drug discovery and cease pharmaceutical research and development.  When did  it become insane to seek out active compounds to use to control or limit disease, btw: you have a very bleak outlook.

Perhaps you did not understand as much as Einstein did?
