The Birkenhead drill deserves to be mentioned in the aftermath of the Wuhan Flu.
In the Big Flu, our leaders were all too ready to take places in our lifeboats, Dom Cummings drove to Barnard Castle, a picturesque destination to test his eyes. And Boris Johnson spent the months while the Wuhan Flu raged, having parties in Downing street (just cheese and wine your honor, always outside work hours ) yeah right, they did all that, the photos show it, while common people like me were kept from our pubs, gigs or football or even our hairdressers, gyms or coffee shops by rough policemen. At one point you could be fined £10,000 for trying to buy a kettle without a fucking face mask!! That's how it was….
So let's remember HMS Birkenhead, which should have heralded the end of the era of deference, hundreds of working class soldiers died to preserve the notion of Women and Children First in the life boats. The Birkenhead drill lasted 170 years, but but was overturned in 2019, when we adopted the Downing Street drill: Politicians and Advisors, and tory party donors first!
