RE childhood mortality.
NEJM recently published an article ( https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2026670 ) from a swedish research group that studied "Open Schools, Covid-19, and Child and Teacher Morbidity in Sweden".
To quote from the article: "Among the 1.95 million children who were 1 to 16 years of age, 15 children had Covid-19, MIS-C, or both conditions and were admitted to an ICU [4 had underlying severe disease, all survived], which is equal to 1 child in 130,000."; "Fewer than 10 preschool teachers and 20 schoolteachers in Sweden received intensive care for Covid-19 up until June 30, 2020".

The Ludvigsson et al. letter to NEJM has received lot of flak for purported misstatements ( https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/03/critics-slam-letter-prestigious-journal-downplayed-covid-19-risks-swedish ). The critics assert that there was excess mortality in the under 18 group and that there were outbreaks in schools.

As shown in the two tables below mortality was not in excess on a whole year basis, but within normal yearly variation. A more precise picture is given when mortality is analysed for each age group. In the latter it may be noted that mortality was exceptionally low in 2019 for males aged 0-4 and 45-54, while women 45-54 have had expetionally low mortality 2018-2020. Males 35-44 have had exceptionally low mortality in 2020, which is odd as it is not the most risk prone age group.

Regarding the risk och serious Covid (ICU treatment). School staff is the least affected. With an incidence of 19/100000 (within the same line of work) . So it looks like working with children "protects" against serious Covid infection compared with other types of work. While no breakdown of the school personnell age composition and underlying diseases is not given, it is likely that the oldest staff is affected.
