“Most Qualified Person Should Get the Job” is a Microaggression, Imperial College and Other Top Universities Say

by Will Jones
23 February 2024 5:45 PM

Top Russell Group universities have told staff and students that saying “the most qualified person should get the job” is a “microaggression”, among other examples of woke language policing. The Telegraph has more.

At least five universities have issued guidance or training courses on how to eliminate “microaggressions”, which are defined as subtle or indirect forms of discrimination.

Guidance from the University of Glasgow and the engineering department of Imperial College London states that saying “the most qualified person should get the job” is an example of a microaggression.

Glasgow’s guidance, which forms part of the university’s anti-racism campaign, suggests that the statement would be wrong because it asserts “that race does not play a role in life successes”.

Other examples of microaggressions listed by the university include saying that “everyone can succeed if they work hard enough”. The university states that possible implications of the statement could include suggesting that someone only got a job because of quotas, or that they cannot make a valuable contribution.

Other statements listed as microaggressions by Imperial include “men and women have equal opportunities for achievement” and “positive action is racist”.

Meanwhile, the University of Edinburgh states that microaggressions often take the form of “questioning an individual’s lived experience” or “denying individual prejudice”.

Examples cited by the university include saying of a third person: “I’m sure they didn’t mean anything by that”, or denying that a person is a racist.

Newcastle University describes microaggressions as “the everyday slights, indignities, put downs and insults that people of colour, women, people from LGBTQIA+ communities or those who are marginalised, experience in their day-to-day interactions with people”.

It lists examples such as a white person telling a black person “white people get killed by the police too”, when discussing police brutality.

The microaggression statements from universities were uncovered by the Committee for Academic Freedom (CAF), a group of academics worried about the erosion of free speech on campus.

Basically, vocalising disagreement with woke dogmas is microaggression, so shut up or face disciplinary action. Got it?

Worth reading in full.

The people who come up with this stuff need to encounter macro aggressions, meaning serious forceful pushback. Or they won’t stop and just keep going and going adding more and more insane prescriptions. Because that’s what they get a rise out of, that’s what it’s really about, controlling other people’s behaviour.

Because heaven forbid we actually (gasp!) hire the most qualified people! The horrors! Honestly, true meritocracy (which unfortunately does not currently exist, and never really did) is far, far more egalitarian than mandated quotas or preferences.

Obviously this is nonsense although if the argument were to go down a different route it might lead to interesting reflection. The word ‘qualified’ can mean two things that can sometimes, especially now, be in complete oppoistion to each other. We might say for example that Fauci or Whitty were them most qualified people to be dealing with what happenened, by virtue of their experience in public health. In that sense we don’t really want the most qualified people in charge of our lives. The most truly qualified people would never have been allowed anywhere near a position of power.

Eventually this kind of thing will lead to the complete collapse of the civilisation that we have now, which has succeeded because of the rewarding of competence. Perhaps when aeroplanes start falling out of the sky regularly, and bridges collapse, whoever is alive at the time might notice and call a halt to it, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

If you’ve ever read Atlas Shrugged we are living it now. It’s like an extraordinary prophecy but written in the 1950s.

I’ve not read it, just read about it. I don’t think I need to read it now, sadly….

I might buy a copy for all my work colleagues when I retire 🙂

I’m not selling it very well. It’s actually beautifully written and does in fact have a positive ending. What it also shows is these things are cyclical. The only hope is the cycle returns before these fanatics irretrievably destroy everything.

You’re selling it very well and I’m sure it’s very well written. I just don’t need any more reminding of the trouble we’re in. Of course these things are cyclical – it’s just a shame to see needless waste, but ’twas ever thus.

Indeed, if we hire accountants that can’t count, planning committees that can’t plan, HR people with no people skills, leaders that can’t lead, workers that don’t work, and engineers that can’t engineer their way out of a paper bag, we will deserve what we get when SHTF as a result.

The collapse isn’t five years away. It quickens at the end. A year will be condensed into a month and then a month into a week and so on. All you can do is remember that a warrior sees the beauty in all things.

Indeed, “growth is slow, but ruin is rapid”, per the Seneca Curve. And the ruin always happens “gradually, then suddenly”, per the Hemingway Corollary to the Seneca Effect.

Can anyone explain precisely how and why we have become this?
I’d love to know.
It’s like we’ve been invaded – from within.
The last 4 years should have been a wake up call, but too many are still asleep.

I can understand why other cultures and civilisations might envy us, hate us, want to do us down etc. That’s natural. What I can’t understand is that so many of our “educated”, “intelligent” “elites” want to assist that – unless they think it guarantees them eternal rule over the underclasses. Then there are the useful idiots who truly seem to believe that they are being “nice” by going along with – they really get my goat.

It is a plan that desn’t allow an origin point but if you want to look at this model in our times you can look at the transition from monarchy that occurred between 1830 and 1918. We have been subjected to a scientifically-crafted propaganda model since 1914 and the British have been the best at maintaining and refining it. If you pay any attention to popular culture or mainstream news media at all then you need to snap out of it. I take a more positive view – given the prevalence and influence of this force it is a wonder that there are any dissenters left at all. And yet they were always there, ready to ignite popular consciousness when the moment was right. We could’ve easily given up in 1918 but we didn’t.

If I was benevolent ruler of the British Isles I’d set up an airline called Woke Air, strictly employing pilots on the basis of colour, gender identity, sexual preference and mandatory disability then force these bovine posturing twats to fly on it for two hours every day for a year.
Then at the end of the year we tally up who’s still with us.

I don’t know if there is a way back from this. We have to try. To embody the spirit of the nation is the realm of the arcangeloi. They are two levels above us and an enlightened person can become at that level the spirit of the nation. These aren’t fake categories. I think there is still enough vital energy in the British Isles for these spirits to manifest. You will know in your heart if the archangel of Britain wants to move in.

Take advantage of it. Identify as a black lesbian transgender paraplegic and demand the treatment you;re entitled to even if you are a shaven headed white guy. They won’t be able to say dick. The things that pisses me off about people in general is that they don’t have the self-confidence to take things on even when they could easily win an argument. People complain but they are too cowardly to address the issue. If you really are that cowardly then you might as well be mounted by a black transgender lesbian.

There will be certain areas that will thrive more than others, Scousers for example when defnitiely rise to the fore. Geordies as well beause they are basically Scandinavians. Honestly if you are an English man I would reccomend finding yourself a Scouse lass or even one from Northern Ireland. And there are some fine Scouse lasses if you can ignore the accent

Why bother even grading papers then?

Just give everyone a participation medal.

I studied damn hard to get my top grade. I studied with some lazy gits who coasted to poor results. I gained more than they did from that experience.

Gumption, diligence and ability are worthy attributes.

In what universe would you not employ the best person for the job?

Maths is racist don’t you know? Because maybe a lot of black people are not good at it, and apparently being on time is racist because a lot of black people might not be very punctual. There is no end to the Marxist war on western values and culture.

Someone seeking promotion overhears a conversation where a participant says ‘the most qualified person should get the job’. They then find out that they have indeed, gained the promotion. Have they been a victim of a microaggression? If they find they have not got the job they can assume they’ve been discriminated against – either due to not being the best qualified or due to some ‘protected characteristic’.
If in a similar scenario the successful applicant overhears a conversation where someone is vilified for saying the most qualified person should get the job they will be uncertain as to whether they got the job to satisfy a quota or because they were the most qualified.

Yes, in a way that phrase could be a microaggression – but only because it should apply without having to state it.

Interesting that the person who invented the term “microaggressions”, Chester M. Pierce, to portray his fellow African Americans as “victims” of evil white people, was absolutely showered with high offices, honours, fame and money by the those same evil white people during his long career of complaining about the evil whites. Most of his 180 books and articles were about the “racism” of white people and “societal tension” resulting from this.

An egregious hypocrite.

“Guidance from the University of Glasgow and the engineering department of Imperial College London states that saying “the most qualified person should get the job” is an example of a microaggression.”

So are they saying they (the ones who are promoting this or condone/agree with it) are not the most qualified for their jobs but got them for other reasons?
