Putin troops gang rape and torture
‘Some 1,004 cases of sexual violence were documented from 24 February 2022…89 percent were attributed to Russian authorities – including members of the armed forces, the prison service and the national security service.
…interviews with dozens of civilians around Ukraine allow one to put together a mosaic portrait of the invaders. It’s not a flattering image. Many of the soldiers are dirt-poor and badly educated, with many growing up without access to modern amenities…The majority have bad training, low morale and no faith in their poorly-maintained equipment and their callous or incompetent officers.
When occupying areas, many drank heavily, turning their quarters into shambles, or went around looting anything barely valuable they could get their hands on. In calls and messages between soldiers and their loved ones in Russia, one attitude came up a lot: that Ukrainians aren’t really people. Everyone recalls the infamous call where a soldier’s girlfriend gave him permission to rape Ukrainian women. In a more recent call, a Russian woman talked about how she would torture and kill Ukrainian children if she had her way. “I would inject them with drugs, look in their eyes and say die, suffer,” she said.
What they call right wing is actually nationalist left wing. They believe in strong state intervention, which is left wing ideology, not right wing.
Right wing ideology is about the defense of private property and the freedom of the individual
Nationalist seems now to have become what people mean by “right wing” – that and a refusal to accept trans and similar madness. There are nationalists on both sides of the spectrum, probably in recent decades more on the right than the left. There are also more social conservatives on the right, which makes it a good line of attack for the left – the right is split between social conservatives like me who make a strong distinction between how I live my life (and think others should live theirs) and allowing others to make their own choices, and people who would take that a step further, or at least say they would. Of course lots of other political and religious ideologies are socially conservative and enthusiastically enforce said view.
Right wing, and especially far right, is the catch all description of anything they don’t like.
Correct. And how do you stop being far right? Well, by toning down your objections and agreeing with them a bit more. If you insist on raising objections you must do so as a “centrist” which means gently and ineffectually.
When you think about it, it’s kind of nuts that the term “nationalist” when referring to the government of a NATION has become for many pejorative. If the government is not pursuing the NATIONAL interest, that is the interests of those who elected it, whose interests is it pursuing?
That’s kind of the point I’ve been trying to make for some time.
Socialists have basically gone about shoving everything that is opposition to them on the “far right”, most notably the absolute paragons of evil, the Nazis, who were actually socialist. Nationalist and socialist.
It’s a despicable trick that makes discussing anything they disagree with completely instantly objectionable. Because who wants to be considered on the same end of this blurred political spectrum as the Nazis?
Likewise “populist”…
