We had Fresher’s Week when I was at Uni in Wales in ’64.

Had t you heard. Mathematics and sciences are racist. 1+1 does not equal 2 if you de-colonise arithmetic (or “maths” as the innumerate would say).
STEM subjects are racist because Africans are generally much less good at them and Africa, especially sub Saharan Africa, has never produced any outstanding inventions or innovations in those areas.
But orientals are generally better.
On average better at studying but seem to have fewer innovators and absolute genius outliers.

Also the left don’t want an able, competent populace. They want everyone to be as dumb as possible so they need “help”, and they want to erase the appearance of differences and inequality so they can pretend that outcomes can be equal for everyone.
Which poses a bit of a conundrum because one of the principal functions of the education system is that it performs a selection process.
How to make a selection process result in equal outcomes for everyone?
Indeed.
That is the general direction of travel – making tests easier or removing them, coursework over exams, making people harder to sack for incompetence, racial and other quotas, the explosion of bullshit subjects and degrees, compliance with the narrative over truth and accuracy.
I have a mate with a son who scraped into uni to study politics because his golfing achievements gave him extra points. He spent a year doing literally bugger all work. Because of his “insomnia” he has been given multiple opportunities to redo the year or defer. At every stage there have been no irrevocable consequences for his laziness or lack of suitability for academia. I’m sure he is by no means unusual.
One can easily foresee the consequences of that for the future productive capabilities of our country. People who have been conditioned to have nothing expected of them are very unlikely to have the capability to do much of value.
In order to reach the utopia of collectivists, where everyone is equal and all outcomes are equal, the only standard you can guarantee that everyone can achieve is no standard at all. Zero. Nothing.
And that’s the current direction of travel.
So far the collectivists seem happy with that direction, or capable of deluding themselves. See also the article here about some dangerously mad professor from Cambridge who more or less advocates us returning to living in caves or mud huts as hunter gatherers.
