Bob the Builder has been accused of spreading “Net Zero propaganda” after ditching his construction yard for installing solar panels and “low carbon heating” in a woke new advert. The Telegraph has the story.
The cartoon character is seen trading in his construction yard for fitting solar panels and low-carbon heating in an eco-friendly reboot for E.On, the energy company.
In his first screen appearance in 15 years, the original stop-motion animated Bob, voiced by Neil Morrissey, encourages viewers to sign up for a “Net Zero training academy” to meet the Government’s target of a decarbonised electricity system by 2030.
The advertising campaign sparked outrage among critics of the policy, who accused the energy provider of turning the animated builder into a “woke commissar of climate” and spreading “eco-zealotry”.
Morrissey’s Bob last appeared on TV in 2011, with a rebooted cartoon version depicting a taller and slimmed down builder from 2015 to 2018.
Addressing his absence in the advert, Bob says: “I downed tools for a while. I got into yoga. Took up bird watching. Then I packed my bags and went to Australia, where I saw some amazing sights,” while pointing at what appears to be a home battery.
Holding up a newspaper, headlined: ‘UK needs more green skills for clean energy future,’ he then says: “When I arrived back home, I saw this in the news and thought: ‘Can we fix it?’”
Swapping his yellow hard hat for a red E.On branded replacement, he is depicted learning to fit solar panels, connecting home batteries and installing low-carbon heating.
He says: “Now I’m helping with the switch to clean power by using my great new skills so people can take control of their energy and save money too.”
E.On’s advert warns there is a lack of skilled workers needed to deliver the Government’s target of a decarbonised electricity system by 2030.
The policy has become a political dividing line amid concerns over rising energy costs and carbon offset schemes encouraging greenwashing.
Lee Anderson, the Reform UK Chairman, said: “Bob the Builder has been turned into a woke commissar of climate, flogging the same Net Zero propaganda that’s sent energy bills through the roof in the homes he used to build.
“This country doesn’t need another army of Net Zero specialists. It needs builders, plumbers and sparkies who can actually keep the lights on. Send Bob back to his proper trade.”

When I first saw the headline I assumed it was the woke BBC brainwashing 5-year olds by showing cartoons of Bob installing solar panels.
Plumbers, builders, electricians and heating engineers contain a high proportion of carbon, as do the rest of us, our farm animals and other food sources. Low carbon means no people snd ultimately no life.
The political class is disgusting. We are learning what it was like to live in East Germany under Honiker. I recall the film Lives of Others which showed the petty horror and poverty of it all.
What next? Peppa pig installing wind turbines? Thunderbirds EV?
TB2 has extended range and can go nearly 200miles – but it can’t carry anything.
What cowboy put up that porch on the e.on training academy? Sheesh!
Standard ‘blob’ brainwashing. Anyone who still thinks that Nut Job Zero is still a practical, realistic & achievable goal and believes it will lower our cost of living should be taken away by the men in white coats and gently placed in the loony bin. Insanity personified (or maybe just plain ‘thick as a government minister’).
