Javier Milei has said Argentina will “prevail” in efforts to claim the Falklands as he announced plans for sanctions on oil drilling off the islands, calling Britain a country “in decline”. The Telegraph has the story.
The Argentine President cast Britain as a country in decline during a televised speech that seized on Donald Trump’s recent interventions in the territorial dispute.
He announced plans for a new law that would punish companies drilling for oil in the seas around the Falklands, a move that will increase tension with Andy Burnham.
Milei also announced that Argentina would build a new military base in Tierra del Fuego as part of the country’s growing strategic alliance with Washington.
“In the world, the winds are blowing favourably for our claim right now,” he said in a televised address to the nation on Thursday night.
“Recently, President [Donald] Trump announced that the United States is re-evaluating its historic position regarding the Malvinas.
“Argentina is a country with natural resources, in a position of geographic strategic relevance that is not affected by uncontrolled immigration, the violence this brings, and the problems of national security that today stalk Europe.
“If we evaluate the structural conditions of the United Kingdom, however, they confront multiple crises of a migratory, demographic and economic character that will be difficult to solve. It is clear that they are in decline. However, Argentina is flourishing, and it will prevail.”
Milei is expected to sign a decree to speed up the planned sanctions, which would accelerate enforcement procedures under Argentine law against those participating in oil extraction in territory Argentina considers its own.
Rockhopper Exploration, a British firm, and Navitas, an Israeli company, own the Sea Lion oil field, which contains 1.7 billion barrels of oil, which is more than any field in British waters.
On Friday, the two companies promised to continue the project despite the mounting political pressure and said they did not anticipate any delays to their drilling.

If I were Milei I would cite the handover of the Chagos Islands, against the will of the population, plus millions of extra cash: the Uniparty planned this so why not betray the Falkland islanders similarly? Britain is not just weak it is suicidal politically. Argentina did not exist when Britain discovered the Falklands, and the Spanish genocidally wiped out its local Indian population. Is has blood on its colonial hands and no claim to the Falklands at all. Hong Kong was British under a treaty and its hand over honoured that treaty. There is no such treaty with Argentina, it did not even exist when we arrived, nor did any indigenous Indians.
But our anti British Civil Service can easily ignore our watertight claim, with the Uniparty appeasinig yet another craven surrender.
The sad thing about it is that he’s not wrong.
I dare say Red Ed will be jetting off to Argentina to congratulate them on their action and offer them billions to take the Falklands off our hands.
If this dopey government will give up the Chagos Islands they will give up the Falklands. After all it will save us money is we didn’t have troops there!
The one thing Miliel got right was Britain “a country in decline”. Why does everyone outside of the Uk see this, but the Brits do not?

Under Thatcher, I felt the Falklands were worth defending; under this lot of meaningless chances, I couldn’t care less. That’s not very kind to the people who live there, but what can they expect. I don’t hope that Milei will get them back, and it’ll be a sad day when he does – but I find I just can’t dredge up the jingoism that I could back in the 80s. It’s hard to argue against the idea that Britain is in decline. The shame of it is that it’s of the British government’s making.

Generalissimo Milei might not be there much longer given the chaotic political history of the British West Falklands – or Argentina as some call it.
Passing laws is one thing, applying them extra-territorially is quite another.
Milei is a different kettle of fish. A full on anti-communist, putting right a lot of the problems caused by socalist governments. He’s far from a fool, and he’ll be looking at that oil as an opportunity to revive Argentina’s fortunes completely.
Yes, and if Rupert Lowe’s RESTORE BRITAIN kicks out the Third World Swarm, we’ll have plenty of room for the hard-working, stalwart British Falkland Islanders, and welcome. They’ll be safer here than there, and can easily adapt to a new life in Blighty.
Not one more drop of British blood should be shed over the Falklands. We are being invaded, and need our entire Armed Forces here at home to defend the Land of Their Ancestors, and stop weakening the British Armed Forces by recruiting the entire Third World, as part of The Great Replacement.
Lowe is just a rabble rouser and distraction. He talks the talk, but he can’t walk the walk, not polling at 3%. He promotes and represents an unachievable fantasy.
We are unable and unwilling to defend the Falklands. They should declare themselves independent of the UK, and enjoy their oil wealth. If they are unable to and Argentina colonises them, then fair play. We obviously don’t give a fish finger about a trillion dollars of oil.

Trump and Milei are both very close to Israel. Milei recently went on his knees to Trump to beg America to extend loans to his government as his policies are not delivering the uptick in the Argentine economic fortunes he promised. It could be argued he now owes Trump.
Some reports argue that Trump and Israel are using the Falklands issue to punish Britain for not getting fully on board with their Iran project which is not going well at all.
Trump who was elected on ‘no more foreign wars’ is looking at losing two wars in one American presidential term. Desperate men do desperate things.
