This is the same force that investigated a journalist over an online post, investigating her for an offence that carries a maximum sentence of 7 years.
FOI stats shows they arrest more than one person every day (1.4) on average for speech-related “crimes.”
They’ve even gone as far as complaining to the press regulator to impede journalism they didn’t like.
In 2023, Essex Police solved just 13.35% of recorded offences—despite a drop of more than 9,000 reported crimes compared to 2022.
For some offences, the solve rate fell below 10%. For rape, it collapsed to just 3.5%.
Back in 2021, Chief Constable Harrington claimed hate speech was among the greatest threats to Essex—seemingly putting it on the same level as rape, knife crime, domestic abuse, and child sexual exploitation.
And just months ago, he was pleading the government for more money—claiming Essex Police faced a £34 million shortfall for 2025.
Horrendous is an understatement.”

Which individuals would these be? Please cite examples to substantiate your claim.
It occurs to me that, with a ‘solve rate’ of anything from 3 to 13 per cent, the reason crime is apparently going down is that people have noticed reporting it is a pointless exercise?
Even those knowing that all they will get is a crime number have probably stopped as if they claim on their insurance their premium will increase by two or three hundred percent. My renewal price has gone up 30% without any changes or a claim.

After initially failing to respond, the force has now completed an internal review and decided to block the request.
They essentially said the data is too hard to retrieve and would exceed statutory cost and time limits.
The request was simple: how many people have been arrested under the Online Safety Act since it passed…
The strange thing?
Other forces had no issue providing this exact data over the past few months.
In fact, Kent are the only force to have made an issue out of it.
So the force can’t retrieve or publish basic arrest figures for certain offences.
Hard to see it as anything other than laziness or gross incompetence.
It also suggests they can’t easily access basic data for their own investigations, which isn’t exactly reassuring for Kent’s 1.6 million residents.
This is the same force that last year arrested a retired officer, Julian Foulkes, for replying to a pro-Palestine activist online.
Julian simply warned the activist of what might happen if Palestine activists continued to ramp up their protests.
It was perfectly legal speech, and there was objectively nothing close to being racist or discriminatory about it.
But Kent Police didn’t seem to care…
Six officers, armed with batons and pepper spray, searched his home and made bizarre remarks on his “very Brexity things”—almost as if he was some extremist hiding away.
They reportedly detained the 71-year-old Julian for 8 hours before eventually admitting fault months later and offering to pay Julian £20,000 in compensation.
Just another day in the world of British policing…

Having some experience with these people and now drawing my well earned pension, I can say with confidence that the useless tits that no one else would work with, were often ‘promoted’ out of the way to a safe 9×5 admin job.
The problem was they were then in a ‘bubble’ where their particular brand of banality would be noticed and rewarded, and assisted up the slithery pole to a position where they could cause maximum disruption and hence the problems we are now experiencing with the police.

The author needs to look up which county Epping is in. It’s really quite easy.
The hotel is right on the southern edge of the town which is quite a long sprawl, which is in ESSEX not kent. This is about 400 meters from said school which is set down a country road with footpath on only one side of the road. It would be easy to create an intimidating block just by hanging around that road. The tube station is about 1.5km away buried in Epping back streets, so presumably the counter protesters would have got lost and didn’t have the energy to walk there and back. I haven’t seen out right evidence that they did get a lift there though. But given police arrest of Israel supporter at Palestine marches, to avoid violence I would have thought the same would apply here. They should have had their demo at a different time. Shame on the Essex police.
I see the police have now also admitted it, it seems unbelievable that it has come to that.

Most EU member states depend on the German (mostly) money the EU distributes to them. Because of this, a collapse of the EU is extremly unlikely for as long as the (somewhat) autonomous region of Germany can still be made to pay EU bills (and a large part of UN bills as well, BTW).

I live half a mile away. I have not taken part in the demonstrations but if I had known of the first ones I might well have done so. The people of Epping are moderately minded with a range of views and attitudes to most things as you would expect. People are fed up with repeated thefts from supermarkets and other local crime; police say it has declined but their data cannot include unreported crime.
The troublemakers are not recognised as locals, indeed I believe all the pro-immigrant ones come from London. As we know Mayor Khan is in favour of ever more immigratiion, he just doesn’t build the accommodation for them. Rewsult, they come to neighbouring districts and we have to suffer building on the Green Belt for them and the middle class Londoners who can afford to escape the Khan hell hole.
I imagine a bit of lawfare might be useful. For instance, respectable Epping residents photographed to illustrate an article published in said lefty newspaper suggesting they are evil nazis etc must be defamation, award of substantial damages might put it out of business.
