Lord Gavin Barwell was the Chief of Staff for Theresa May – in a field with numerous candidates, probably the worst British Prime Minister in living memory. Reacting to a recent Daily Sceptic article that laid out the science surrounding carbon dioxide, he pounced on an X repost by “Toby and his mate [yours truly]” and stated: “I suspect the next generation may pursue people like him who sought to delay action for damages.” Barwell’s comment is as silly as it is sinister, but it indicates considerable elite derangement as members observe their Net Zero fantasy falling in flames. Net Zero was only ever an elite luxury belief backed by 30 years of lies, fake science and constant climate scare forecasts that never happened. Removing all hydrocarbons from industrial societies will lead to economic and societal collapse. Removing hydrocarbons from the developing world is just plain wicked.
The pure snobbery behind Net Zero is plain for all to see. The latest carbon budget from the Climate Change Committee (CCC) suggested restrictions on meat and dairy, higher air fares, ripping out efficient gas boilers and replacing them with optimistically-named heat pumps and replacing most cars with battery buggies. The message might have gone down slightly better if it had not been delivered by the new CCC head Emma Pinchbeck, who rose through the mediocre ranks of the Green Blob following her degree in Classics and English at Oxford University. Does anyone outside the deluded, science-lite green community seriously believe that an entire population will fall in line with plans to cut the hard-won increases in living standards that have eased the lives of recent generations? In a future ‘Blackout Britain’, the only pursuing likely to occur is a chasing of the Net Zero rascals out of Parliament at the next available General Election.
Following Trump’s historic victory, the attack on Net Zero is now general across all fronts. The costs involved in Net Zero are astronomical and are a topic of independent commentary in the Daily Sceptic and a greatly increasing number of other concerned outlets. There simply isn’t enough money in highly-indebted states to fund a so-called renewable transition. There is no point in looking for the free market to chip in – nobody spending their own money would considering building a windmill unless their mouths were stuffed with taxpayer gold. The recent story in the Express that the UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is set to be sacked as the British Government “shifts from ‘green’ policies to focusing on economic growth” is not without interest. Nevertheless, caution in believing such political stories is always advisable, although it appears that knives are being sharpened. Even if the Mad One is sacked, the Labour front and back benches are packed with one-track eco-zealots, and the CCC is always there to hold feet to the legal fire.
Dr Roy Spencer is a brilliant former NASA scientist and currently produces the monthly global satellite temperature record out of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). In a scientifically honest world, his UAH readings taken just above massive urban ground warming would be accepted as the gold standard. After all, satellite data is now used across all other climate study areas. But the readings since 1979 show less warming than the constantly fiddled surface datasets and he compounds this crime by holding sceptical independent views. “The science of human-caused climate change is much more uncertain that you have been led to believe,” he recently wrote. Spencer does not deny that humans have played a part in 1°C of warming over the last century, give or take a 30% range in different temperature datasets. He just notes, “We don’t really know.” And why don’t we know, he asks, and why can we therefore state that the invented ‘settled’ science backing Net Zero is a gigantic lie? Spencer explains that the global energy balance caused by increasing human-caused emissions is smaller than the accuracy with which we know natural energy flows in the climate system. “This means recent warming could be mostly natural and we would never know it,” he helpfully adds.
Most climate and weather fearmongering is based on computer models, with unquestioning messengers always at hand to pass on the junk findings to a wider audience. The climate models are adjusted (‘fudged’) so that increasing CO2 is the only cause of warming, says Spencer. “The models themselves do not have all of the necessary physics, mostly due to cloud process uncertainties,” he observes
Spencer also notes that the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changes does not claim that greenhouse gas emissions have caused changes in severe weather. This inconvenient finding has necessitated the invention of a particularly large whopper. Almost all bad weather is now routinely tied to human causation, and ‘attribution’ pseudoscience is both big business and bedrock copy for mainstream media. “But with public opinion of mainstream news outlets at an all-time low, fewer and fewer people take those news reports seriously,” suggests Spencer.
Gavin Barwell was May’s Chief of Staff at the end of her Premiership at a time when she was desperately seeking a legacy for her failed time in office. For some inexplicable reason, she suddenly committed the UK in 2019 to full Net Zero by 2050, without providing any realistic explanation as to how a modern industrial society can stop using hydrocarbons in all forms in 30 years. Perhaps Barwell could now be ‘pursued’ for an explanation as to why he was complicit in forcing the UK down such a potentially damaging, disastrous even, path.
Stop Press: The latest UAH global temperature reading shows a +0.5°C anomaly for February 2025. The figure is similar to January and recent recordings exhibit a large downward trend. Surface measurements do not appear to have picked up much of this fall and mainstream media still seem to be looking for another ‘hottest evah’ contribution to the science debate.

Plus or minus 0.5⁰C is not a temperature anomaly, that’s a measurement error or at least in the range of measurement errors. The attached images were generated from the only raw data available (I could find) on Dr Spences web site. They’re global differences from the 1991 – 2020 average Jan 2024 – Feb 2025.

Sadly, I wouldn’t put it past the net zero zealots to leap on these graphs as “evidence” that the drive to reduce CO2 emissions is working, and that we should crack down even harder. They’re very adept at twisting everything.
If the ephemeris calculations of Valentina Zharkova are correct, then the likely forthcoming grand solar minimum (GSM) will result in significant planet-wide cooling, similar to that experienced during the Little Ice Age.
This is projected to happen between 2030 and 2053 and may already have started.
This is far more likely than the ridiculously hyperbolic “global boiling” hypotheses, based on nonsensical modelling, pumped out by the likes of the UN and other questionable instruments of global control.
In that case, the next generation will likely be pursuing Barwell and his like for imposing poverty, mass starvation, and freezing to death upon them, all in the name of “saving the planet” (i.e. following the Greta cult).

This implicitly asserts that Toby and his mate really do believe that climate armageddon because of UK-emitted CO₂ (but never because of China-emitted CO₂ because that’s a developing country!) is unavoidable unless Barwell’s preferred policies are implemented to the letter but lie about this for nefarious reasons which don’t need to be mentioned. As Barwell cannot possibly know this because he’s certainly not telepathic, it means he’s lying himself.
Apart from that, the comment is also sinister because freedom of opinion and freedom of speech cannot possibly exist when people aren’t free to be completely wrong about anything. To Barwell, being wrong, is principally a crime which should be punished, although he uses terms associated with civil lawsuits to make this less obvious. If this guy could act like he’d like to, he’d happily jail people for voting for the wrong parties, presumably, to save democracy by abolishing it.
I blame President Kennedy. He set the target of getting a man on the moon within the 1960s without a plan, budget or technology. The Americans did this, so Kennedy is seen as a visionary and a hero. Teresa May realised she was likely to be remembered as the worst prime minister ever, so she made a reckless bid for being remembered as a visionary leader by having her own goal of Net Zero without a plan, budget or technology. Difference is getting a man on the moon had some point in developing the technology needed, whereas net zero is utterly pointless.
You are right. The notion that never mind the practicality or feasibility, just set the target and this forces everyone to find solutions and meet it, is now well entrenched. Didn’t Nixon similarly declare a cure for cancer would be found within ten years?

The USCRN has recorded the second largest month to month drop in its short history from Dec 24 to Jan 25 of 7.13F. This network of stations was set up to measure rural temperatures free from the effects of UHI and unlikely to suffer from urbanisation anytime soon. It may only be the US but that rather undermines the hottest evah January. Be interesting to see how they get on for the next month. We are finally getting a bit of warmth in the UK, and for those of us involved in local football, a much needed dry spell. But, a tub of water in the shade in my garden had ice on it all day yesterday as the clear skies are bringing night frosts.
Christchurch meadows (a large park alongside the northern bank of the Thames) was all frozen over yesterday around 00:30. That’s unusually cold for this time of the year (at least, I haven’t experienced something like this since I regularly started walking there in the night because of lockdown in 2020).

Derived from averaging multiple temperature instruments, not calibrated against a reference instrument, with an accuracy of +/- 5C, computer processed using algorithms to “correct” for various things like station drop-out, urban heat island effect, change of site, change of instrument to produce a number that is many more times accurate than the raw input data.
Truth is: nobody actually knows “global temperature(s)”.
It’s all make believe.

Why are we paying wind farms to switch off. Surely they should be using the extra power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen and selling it on the open market given that we are told there is high demand from hydrogen vehicles.
