The West’s focus on Net Zero has been a “colossal failure” and “lunacy” that has lowered living standards, President Trump’s Energy Secretary Chris Wright has said.
In an interview with Chris Uhlmann at the ARC (Alliance for Responsible Citizenship) conference in London, Secretary Wright defended the role of fossil fuels while praising nuclear as an “energy-dense, reliable technology that has been stifled by regulation”.
Wright called Net Zero 2050 a “sinister goal” that “lowers the standard of living of the population” by “impoverishing… citizens in pursuit of a delusion”.
He said his priority instead is to “grow the supply of affordable, secure energy”, criticising countries like the UK that have pursued Net Zero and allowed the “export [of its] industry” as “no one is going to make an energy intensive product in the UK anymore”.
Net Zero has meant trillions of dollars of investment with scarcely any return, he told delegates. Anywhere that there is significant renewables penetration, electricity prices have gone up.
“The world runs on hydrocarbons, and for most of their uses we don’t have replacements. … We need to make the pie bigger,” he argued. “Energy realism is critical for humanism. … You cannot have security without energy security.”
Secretary Wright challenged the ‘consensus’ of climate activists, saying:
Deaths from extreme weather have plummeted over the last 100 years. … Most of the climate-obsessed people I’ve spoken to know very little about the data. … I think the agenda might be different from climate change, it has certainly been a powerful tool to grow state power and shrink personal freedom — this is sinister.
In his first international remarks since being confirmed, Wright concluded by calling for a “focus on humans and their lives” and on “the need to unleash freedom, opportunity and energy”.
Founded in 2023, the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship is a global network of leaders committed to “generating positive, practical solutions to the greatest challenges of our time”.
In October 2023, ARC brought together over 1,500 people from 72 countries in London, including some of the world’s foremost thinkers, business and cultural figures and politicians, according to a press release. Since then, the organisation has hosted conferences in Europe and Australia.
ARC’s second annual conference is being hosted in London’s ExCeL Centre from February 17th-19th. The conference is one of the largest of its kind, with over 4,000 delegates attending from 96 countries — including over 1,000 from the United States.
The conference international organising committee includes Baroness Philippa Stroud, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, Australian Shadow Minister for Defence Andrew Hastie and former Australian Prime Ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott.

First J D Vance and now Chris Wright. Thanks Mr Trump keep it coming.
Amazing, isn’t it.
After years of listening to idiotic woke ideas parroted by world leaders and the mainstream media, a few decent men come along and say things that every sane person knows to be true.
And the evil spell is broken, the lies collapse, the insanity vaporizes.
All it takes is a few brave people and a few sentences.
And whereas the lies needed the support of a compliant media, an entire propaganda industry, censorship, threats, intimidation, bullying, the truth stands by itself.
Telling it how it is. Another coherent and compelling analysis from a new kid on the block across the pond.
Meanwhile over here in Limeyland, Britain has architect of the 2008 Canute Tribute Act, Minister for Energy Insecurity and fruit of Marxist loins, Miliband Minor…
100% but how do we dig ourselves out of this big black hole of woke?
I wouldn’t tar Canute with the same brush as Millipede – at least he was only misunderstood, not a total t*t
“Energy realism is critical for humanism.”
And energy fantasy/delusion is critical for the anti-human agenda.
Good man!
And we have the county idiot…..
Has anyone noticed that Millibrain can’t discuss anything about energy policy? Instead, he goes straight to ‘attack and insult’ mode. What a truly odious individual.
That is true of the whole Cabinet. Only one brain cell between them, which they have to share (and it’s usually WFH)
Meantime, as the ‘sausages’ faux pas showed, most of the time they are just parroting Marxist messages which are beamed into their earpieces
It’s because they don’t have any facts or data, only a religious belief in what they want to believe to be true
No hedgeing around for this guy, just give ’em both barrels……pure common sense is impossible to argue with…..by the way there is now so much evidence that shows 100 %, of their dire predictions, have passed without happening, that the likes of Mad Ed look insane, bleating out more warnings.
Wow— another courageous American Patriot wheels out the cannon!
Only a few days after JD Vance’s challenge to the Globalist Communists infesting the West, the US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has fired another broadside.
And all of this shortly after the great Argentinian Patriot President Milei also blasted them to smithereens.
This is going to be great fun to watch— get out the popcorn!
And the beers. We ain’t seen nothin’ yet. As Groucho Marx used to say…
“…I’m not crazy about reality, but it’s still the only place to get a decent meal.”
What a great quote, not heard that one before…
Awesome. It’s just so uplifting to hear someone speak some sense, having had to listen to drivel for years. I await Ed Miliband’s response with interest.
The President of the United States of America used to be seen as the “leader of the free world”. In recent years, that crown had slipped somewhat. But now Mr Trump, through his own words and actions, and through his inspired appointments, is reclaiming that crown. He and his representatives are speaking up for those of us who do not have a voice because our views do not align with those of the woke left-leaning blobs who run our nations in Europe and western-leaning democracies around the world. Please, Mr Trump, keep telling it as it is, and continue your rugged defence of independent thought and free speech.
Fantastic article but surely a work of fiction because there’s no mention of the speech whatsoever in the MSM.
Slowly but surely idealogy is meeting reality –
Ukraine will win.
Covid caused millions of excess deaths.
Covid vaccines saved millions of lives
Freedom of speech must be banned in order to preserve er freedom
Immigration is good for the West
Bit like the farmers protest in London… next to no coverage in msm
Spot on: “ Most of the climate-obsessed people I’ve spoken to know very little about the data”
Jesus would be proud of Trump and Vance and their chosen ones!!! Thank god for them. To you now Starmer and co.
I see energy prices are rising again when Ed Miliband said they would be coming down with wind and solar.
