Rick Prior, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation, was suspended last week after he told GB News that senior police officers were discouraging the rank and file from intervening to stop antisocial behaviour by ethnic minorities due to the “racism of low expectations”. Now under investigation by the national federation due to concerns about his “discriminatory” remarks, Prior is being defended by the Free Speech Union.
Amid wider concerns about whether police officers who are the subjects of complaints after encounters with ethnic minorities are treated fairly, Prior’s suspension as Chair, just months after he was elected to the position in April by the Met Federation’s more than 30,000 members, has caused outrage.
