Scientist Who Called Neighbour a “Spanish Whore” Cautioned by Police for Hate Crime and Struck Off

by Will Jones
5 August 2024 3:45 PM

A biomedical scientist who called her Portuguese neighbour a “Spanish whore” and “slag” during a row over a fire alarm was cautioned by police for a hate crime and struck off by the Health and Care Professions Council. The Telegraph has more.

Kelly Madden launched a foul-mouthed rant at her neighbour after drinking “an entire bottle of cheap rosé by accident”, a disciplinary hearing was told.

She was charged by the police and handed a caution for the “racist slur”, before being suspended from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) by a tribunal.

Now, after a review hearing, Ms. Madden has been struck off after a panel concluded that that was the only way to “protect the public”.

She was reported to police by her neighbour, a young Portuguese woman, following an argument the pair had in July 2020 in Norwich in when Ms Madden set off fire alarms in her building by mistake. She had activated the alarm “preparing soup” on a hot day, a disciplinary hearing was told.

In a statement, Ms. Madden said: “The fire alarm activated the other fire alarms and my neighbour became extremely agitated and was shouting in the hall and on the landing.

“I told her there wasn’t a fire and apologised, which I always do when the alarm activates accidentally.

“She was hysterical and I was drunk on a bottle of wine so we had an argument at the top of the landing outside my door and I called her ‘a Spanish slag’ and told her to go away if she didn’t like it.

“I also stuck my fingers up at her because I just wanted her to stop screaming outside my door. She then called the local police and accused me of hate crime.”

While she accepted she should not have shouted at her neighbour, Ms. Madden added: “Ultimately I’m not her mother and I didn’t realise it was illegal to call someone a ‘Spanish whore’”.

Ms. Madden was suspended from the HCPC for nine months in March 2022 by a panel which described her behaviour as “outrageous”.

Her suspension was then extended further by three review panels before a final hearing.

Worth reading in full.

No wonder the police have no time to solve trifling things like burglaries when there are serious cases of hurty words to take decisive action against.

I worked for my local council for a while, in labouring type role, amongst other manual workers. They didn’t all get on well with one another and colourful language flew regularly, but it seemed to work OK and I don’t think any of them got “struck off” the paviours’ register for telling a colleague they were a “f***ing c**t”.

But who in their right mind would even think to ring the police due to someone insulting them?? It’s just mental, right? The thought wouldn’t even occur to me. Mind you, I don’t even report people on here who go out of their way to slander or insult me because I’m not a petty, spiteful person.
Kelly should’ve played the ”mental health” card, actually. She should’ve said her boyfriend had just broke up with her and all she could afford until pay day was this cheap kack in order to self-medicate and it went right to her head because she didn’t eat anything, such was her depressive state. Imagine being arrested *and* hungover, with your career down the swanny. What an epic shitshow.

Indeed. It’s not clear whether the neighbour grassed her up to her professional body or whether it was the police.

Whatever happened to “Sticks and Stones will break my bones, but calling names won’t hurt me”?

Seriously, what is so wrong with “some” people these days? They deserve to be called names, and if that offends them “who cares”? Get over it.

Be offended all you like!

Strange, I thought Spanish and Portuguese were nationalities not races. Perhaps this level of police education is normal for Norfolk?

Maybe mis-countrying someone is also now a hate crime.

I did have to laugh at the accidentally drinking a whole bottle of wine bit. I mean, we’ve all been there. Just like when you accidentally faceplant and inhale an entire chocolate cake….which was nothing to do with me whatsoever. 😮

But seriously, this story is an absolutely disgraceful reflection of the Clown World reality in which we live. I didn’t click on the article but did the neighbour record the exchange or something? How would she prove it to the police otherwise? I’d have just denied everything if there was no actual evidence. This is way over the top as a response. But then you never have to look far for more examples and confirmation that we’re living in authoritarian times, the justice system a complete farce. And as per my observations, I just see more white Stasi police targeting more white citizens exercising their right to freedom of speech. Don’t they have any Muslim violent gangsters to be knocking on instead?

”While masked gangs roam the streets with weapons looking for white people to mob attack, the police are going to peoples houses and arresting them for comments online.
1984 to 2024 Britain.”

I am not quite clear whether the crime was in referring to her being Spanish or to her being a whore and a slag? It talks about the crime being a racial slur, which implies that if. this being Norfolk, she had instead called her a ‘Turnip Eating Slag and a whore that would have been OK?
When I was a lad we were brought up on the phrase,’sticks and stones can break your bones but words will never harm you’. Oh for a return to those simple straightforward days.

The must be an investigation into the ‘apparent’ evidence that a hot day climate change was really responsible for setting off the alarm. And is ‘preparing’ a euphemism for burning the soup?

Striking off this woman in order to ‘protect the public’ – is she likely to insult everyone she meets? – will only bring these bodies into disrepute. And how they will have deserved it.

I must admit I’ve done that once or twice 🙂 It can happen on a Friday evening if you open the bottle at 6pm and don’t go to bed until gone midnight.

Thank heaven Toby Young decided to found The Free Speech Union to fight back against this Orwellian madness.

Next time she sets off the fire alarm, Ms. Madden could try an old Spanish insult used by women to other women in a quarrel, such as “lagarta”, which means “female lizard” in Spanish, but “caterpillar” in Portuguese.

Our host is often criticised, but anyone who gets off their arse and founds and runs something like the FSU should be rightly proud of themselves.

But I cannot understand WHY Toby Young the Founder of the Free Speech Union is so often criticised by members of the Free Speech Union, instead of supporting him!

And their criticisms are so trivial, so petty, trite, paltry, trifling, petulant, shallow, small, cheap and mean— it’s cringeworthy.

A lot of the criticisms I have seen seem unwarranted to me, some others are down to people having different views that his, strongly held, especially on Israel. I expect TY has faced a lot worse and hopefully doesn’t take it personally.

Setting up a site called Lockdown Sceptics when he did required some balls.

Yes, he is a very courageous man, along with his team.

You would expect savage, relentless criticism from your enemies, but not from your own supporters.

It doesn’t make any sense to me.

I have never criticised Toby Young, unlike you, who seem bent on turning this website into a branch of the Conservative Maryolater Woman, and covering every page with your ridiculous cutesy “name”.

Is this the proper role of Government or the Justice System? To get involved in private arguments? ——Perhaps a similar dose of excessive zeal in apprehending Machete wielding pieces of human trash running amok in broad daylight might be more in keeping with their remit.

Just on the fire alarms. They get set off by people cooking in a kitchen without opening the window. The noise is alarming, likely to trigger not only heart but anger attacks. When I was purchasing my new detached French home, built of stone, the sellers had to provide proof of having purchased and installed a fire alarm. I dismantled it and placed it in a drawer in the cellar. As for one alarm setting off others, could we have the name and a photograph of the individual who thought up that zealotry?

Couldn’t agree more. When ours went off in our new home three years ago, the dog – who at 16 years old we believed was deaf – ran into a wall in his panic, my wife screamed as if stung by a scorpion, I rolled on the floor like Jack Black in that explosion scene from ‘Tropic Thunder’, and my 27 year-old autistic son punched a(nother) hole in the wall because it had interrupted his effing video game. I see the funny side of it now, but at the time…

Aside from the fundamental injustice of being visited by the Filth for using a naughty word or two, this is the funniest item I’ve read in years.

The weasel words are from the ‘review hearing panel’, to the effect that the magnificent Kelly Madden must lose her job in order to “protect the public” – one of the Left’s umbrella mantras with which they fool themselves (and no one else) into believing that they’re doing good things for society, while actually harming it at a fundamental level.

How can it be a racist slur. Native (ie not immigrants) Spanish and Portuguese, which I presume this woman is, are the same race.
