Have Left-Wing Protesters Moved On From Climate Change?

by Will Jones
4 May 2024 1:00 PM

Climate protests are so last year, it appears, as the same crowd now preoccupies itself with Gaza demonstrations. Is the truth that Left-wing protests are just fads chasing the latest issue du jour? The Telegraph‘s Ross Clark thinks so.

It’s hard not to notice a distinct switch in the targets of Lefty protesters over the past few months. They seem to have lost interest in protesting about climate change and have switched to Palestine and asylum-seekers instead.

The shift can be dated to last November during a protest held in Amsterdam, when Greta Thunberg suddenly seemed to decide that the planet was no longer worthy of her complete attention. She told the crowd that there “can be no climate justice on occupied land”, before blathering on about Palestine. It didn’t please one of her fans, who stormed the stage and seized her microphone, but as ever with Greta she seemed to manage to set a trend.

In the months since we have seen fewer and fewer climate protests as progressive mobs find other things to work themselves up about instead. Never mind that we are supposedly heading for climate Armageddon if we don’t abandon all oil and gas more or less instantly, a more urgent injustice seems to be that asylum seekers are being taken out of three star hotels and housed on a barge instead – a barge which, by the way, seemed to be perfectly adequate in its previous incarnation as accommodation for oil workers (although I guess in the minds of climate activists they needed to be punished).

“Like most Left-wing causes,” Ross suggests, climate change was “just a passing fad”. “The same crowd seems to have evolved seamlessly from anti-globalisation to the Occupy movement, to climate change and now to Palestine.”

Don’t forget BLM!

“If you want to be on trend with your protesting, better opportunities now lie elsewhere,” Ross concludes

Worth reading in full.

Adopted children under the influence and control of very cunning, iniquitous and powerful corporate, investment banking and charitable organisations and individuals?

The left can be traced back to the french revolution and the guillotine, since when it gave us the russian revolution, nazi Germany and communist china amongst many of it’s other murderous “greatest hits”. The post ww2 movement seems to be mostly about lawfare in the west through things like COVID, climate, global socialism and war. Never give socialists an inch otherwise you are simply walking yr way to the communist manifesto by degrees.

The left turned their back on the workers post WW2 when they realised that most workers are aspirational.

The professional and managerial classes are aspirational too. Could the Left have penetrated and polluted every organ of the public and corporate sector without their cooperation?

Reminds me of rent-a-mob’ back in the day! Moved from one protest / demonstration to another often living in barely roadworthy mobile accommodation on the lookout for the next mission!

I knew someone like that. He rented a room off me in Hereford, but once the 2003 Iraq War started he went to RAF Fairford and I never saw him again. At least they were onto something back then, there were no WMDs found.

Whilst these people infuriate the hell out of me, it does help calibrate my thoughts, and although you never visibly convince them they are wrong, the fact that they move on to the next “cause” indicates they have lost faith in it, and ultimately most of them grow out of it.

I bet to differ slightly. In my experience Socialists can only consider 1 variable at a time against one outcome always expressed through excessive emotion and rage. Think co2 and climate or COVID and death. They will never admit error and underlying everything is a lust for power underpinned by greed, inadequacy and envy.

Further to your point about not admitting to error – most of us have a hard time changing our minds. We need to practice it in little ways, can be quite fun.

Lefties have always been the same, they are all about the latest thing and the kids who initially follow them mostly grow up. A few years back it was “Oh! Jeremy Corbyn!” and a few months later “Oh, who?”.
Ukraine was one of their fads but then they realised they could combine their natural hatred of Jews with Palestine. Never mind that women their age had been gang raped and beheaded, this is Jews and Jews are evil so let’s wave flags!
Climate Lies they soon got bored of, largely because there were too many seriously weird old beardy people. Not cool enough and far too much hassle gluing oneself to tarmac: how does one send selfies with hands glued to floor?

Best way to deal with people who glue themselves is to leave them there. A point Mark Steyn made about especially females protesting for Palestine is they sense how the wind is blowing — not quite ready to FGM themselves though.

“The salient feature of the demonstrations roiling McGill, Columbia and other western campuses is not that the pasty blonde trustiefundies are “pro-Palestinian” but that they’re cool with being culturally Islamic. Oh, to be sure, it’s mostly just keffiyehs and a few other fashion accessories; not yet full body bags and clitoridectomies. But why wouldn’t it have a purchase on them that Mr Housefather’s bleatings about how everyone should feel safe do not? The young want to belong, and what they most want to belong to is the future – and they grasp instinctively where the future’s headed.
They also get that these guys mean it. It is not coincidental that white upscale females are now among the most enthusiastic proponents of Hamas. For two generations, their menfolk have made the mistake of believing all that What Women Want bollocks, and the result is legions of “new males”, metrosexuals, soyboys – or, alternatively, depressive methheads chugging back Bud Light down in the man-cave. Me again: “We have made a world of men that women don’t want and women that men don’t want, and that doesn’t seem likely to end well.”
And suddenly there’s Ahmed and Shahid doing their Sheik of Araby Xtreme Sports routine”

At night when you’re asleep

Into your tent I’ll creep.

But remember, it’s never about the ’cause’, it’s always about the revolution. What I’d like to see is a bit of citizen journalism whereby people in various Western countries go down to speak with these ‘protestors’, whichever cause the protest is dressed up as, and ask 100 people taking part ”Are you proud to be British/Dutch/German/American?..”, whatever depending on the country. Just something along the lines of that or ”Are you happy to be living in this country?”. I’d bet any money that the majority answer ”no”. It would be an interesting social experiment to do if people can do it over a variety of ‘protests’ and in a variety of countries, upload their videos to Twitter perhaps, as well as their percentage yes/no results. It’s desirable to get a range of ethnicities, obviously, because it needs to reflect the reality on the ground, as you may or may not be aware of the recent 1000+ Muslims that came out in Hamburg shouting for Sharia law and how they wanted a caliphate. It goes without saying the German authorities let this affront to Western values and culture go ahead because ‘free speech’.
Still in Germany though, we have the menaces to society burning 16 Amazon trucks, because it’s all about freeing Palestine, evidently…I think we should just blame lockdowns. That’ll do it <FFS>,

”Leftist maniacs are the bane of free and civilized societies. Note the melange of “causes” which they deem to be reasons to rain destruction upon Berlin. Their most popular “causes” include promoting hatred of white males, although while they scream about the “patriarchy,” they ignore the serious abuses against women in Islamic culture and under Islamic law. They also support the Palestinian “resistance” revolution, and are anti-capitalism, promoting hatred of the West. Their burning of Amazon trucks was likely done in opposition to capitalism. This is the same mentality everywhere they go in the West.
What better opportunity than Walpurgis Night, where every leftist freak feels free to express his or her derangement with impunity. That “celebration” is “the pagan festival of bonfires, witches and Celtic folk music.” This year, they turned out with purpose, exposing themselves as Antifa and Black Bloc agitators.

So far, Leftist revolutionaries have escaped justice as they endeavor to tear down Western civilization in every sphere: in politics, the education system, and the entertainment industry. They unhesitatingly resort to violence and intimidation, as we see on campuses and in the streets.
Islamic supremacists — and now, pro-Hamas thugs — only manage (and have managed in the past) to gain advantage over and subjugate the West because of the Leftists who support them. Ironically, if Leftist thugs tried their antics in the Palestinian territories or in any Muslim state, especially regarding their LGBTQ agenda, what would happen to them? This is why they have earned the label “useful idiots.”

…there “can be no climate justice on occupied land”,

I’m sure she’ll be delighted that we’ve found something to agree on.

Thing is, I don’t think she’ll agree that there can be no climate justice on unoccupied land, or indeed, what climate justice might be.

Just as in the Pop Music Industry where teenagers will abandon one Pop Star for a new one because it isn’t really about music, it is all about fashion, then the activists will flit to the latest trendy fashion item which seems to be Palestine at the moment. ——-Notice though how much of the nonsense coming from the mouths of the easily manipulated activists and politicians is a clutter of left wing causes all rolled into one. eg. In the book by Stephen Einhorn called “What they rarely teach in College” he explains how 80% of the cost of the GND (Green New Deal) in the US is for things totally unrelated to climate, like “Job Guarantees” “Wealth Redistribution”, “Universal Health Care” “Increased Minimum Wages” “Free Food” etc etc. ——-So as many of us already knew the climate is really just the excuse for the Liberal Progressive Policies that the left have always longed for and now they have the very plausible excuse in climate for those policies. Which is why climate change is really just eco socialism masquerading as science.

Not so much ‘on trend’ as ‘on the money’

‘The People’s Forum’, which has been at the helm of anti-Israeli protests in the United States, has now come under the scanner over its financing by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) supporter Neville Roy Singham.

As per a report by The Free Press, Singham and his wife Jodie Evans have donated over $20.4 million to the organisation between 2017 and 2022. The American tech entrepreneur and his Chinese connections were exposed in a report published by The New York Times on August 5 this year.’

‘An officer probing the money laundering case revealed that NewsClick had financial dealings with a Sri Lankan-Cuban-based businessman named Neville Roy Singham, who allegedly funnelled Rs 38 crore to PPK Newsclick Studio Pvt Ltd between 2018 and 2021 from abroad.

The officials, who had traced the money flow of the media outlet, said that Singham is associated with the propaganda arm of the Communist Party of China (CCP).

‘The goal is to disguise propaganda as independent content.”

‘The result is a seemingly organic bloom of far-left groups that echo Chinese government talking points, echo one another, and are echoed in turn by the Chinese state media.’

During its investigation, the American newspaper found that Neville Roy Singham had financed an India-based leftist propaganda outlet named NewsClick. It noted that the news outlet had repeated the talking points of the CCP in the past.’

I think you have to examine them one by one. You could have two meetings that might be called protests but the mood is entirely different. You need to be able to discern when they actually mean it. I think a lot of the climate neurotics are sincere. A strange cast of mind has taken hold of the average western educated person. A whole ideology has been imposed whilst masquerading as liberal and scientific openmindedness. I would say that the intellectual class is beginning to glean this but they are hesitant to pursue their thoughts because of the vacuum that is revealed. We are moving into a time where necessity will trump neurosis. In such times there is no pissing about and the arduousness of life ultimately leads to a refinement of truth.

“anti-globalisation to the Occupy movement”

Those movements were over the target as they say. So what went wrong. The timing is interesting when you consider just after was the Arab Spring where social media was a force for good. But that didn’t last, here we has the rise of the EDL etc. Then there was the Woke mind virus and Occupy Wall Street is forgotten.

In economic terms the current situation cannot go on much longer. The monetised debt model has run its course along with four hundred years of the central banking warfare model. The reality that faces graduates will be the same reality that faces the rest of us. You might think that you’re comfortably off now and therefore shileded but this is not the case at all. It is the comfortably off that are the biggest target at the moment simply because they have stripmined the rest. There is no remedy within our neoliberal reality in terms of adjustments to the system. That system is fatally flawed and on levels that we might not think about. We think that we are somehow above the building of tank factories and can exist as a vacuous service economy forever. The only mature response to this dire situation is an honest examination of power relations and the Anglo-Americans seem pathologically incapable of doing so. This is a genuine crisis. There will be no return to the standard of living that we had before but I think there should be at least some openminded effort towards accommodation and compromise.

We waited too long and we lacked vigilance and lacked all sorts of mental acuities. Don’t pretend that there is any kind of return to normal. Any redemptive change starts with an acknowledgement of that was ignored, neglected, deemed too gloomy to contemplate.

The traditional Sunday morning Hamas rally in my town shows the fusion of several activist groups. In the picture (5th March 2024) are flags for Palestine, XR and the Communist Party. After chanting, they dispersed after a few minutes, probably heading for the local vegan restaurant. (Unexpectedly they aren’t wearing covid masks, which I think is more of a custom in the West of England, and perhaps London. Also BLM seemed to be conspicuous by their absence this year.) The ethnic make-up appeared to be “never seen so many white people in one place”, seemingly consisting of familiar hairy students bussed in from the university in the next county, and some ageing female old Labour supporters blaming everything on Jews and Tories.
I see this in two complementary ways. First, the traditional Left, centuries old, appropriate whatever is the current issue du jour and then infiltrate it and support it, moving on when it becomes toxic or a new issue becomes more marketable. Alternatively, the flash-in-the-pan single-cause activists seek support from broader long-term movement seeking change, and are thus attracted to the Communist Party. It has ever been thus, from 1950s CND and way back before then.

I haven’t forgotten BLM. On one memorable occasion in Hyde Park I was with one of the early anti-Lockdown rallies, complete with hastily cobbled-together placards and felt-tip tee shirts, and hand-held megaphone, standing around or getting takeaway coffee while the videoing police hung around like vultures. Alongside that gathering just over the fence there was a BLM rally, with proper stage, excellent PA equipment, and hundreds of identical professionally-laminated, artisan-assembled placards, seated in comfy chairs, while the *police brought them tea and biscuits, and helped the merchandise hawkers flogging their designer tee-shirts with renowned graphic-designer-created imagery. This is not cheap! Where does the funding and organisation come from? And has it stopped this year, like XR has disappeared, in favour of pro-Palestine funding?
*OK, ‘merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.’
