Rising media star ‘Jim’ Dale (real name Noel Roger Dale) from British Weather Services (limited company dissolved) with a 40-year old proficiency certificate in thermometer reading from the Royal Navy can be relied upon to turn almost every bad weather event into the harbinger of complete climate collapse. Whatever the data thrown at him disproving his barking claims, ‘Jim’ carries on regardless. It is a comic tour de force, not to be missed. Unfortunately this ‘Daleification’ of climate change is common throughout mainstream media. A recent extreme weather report written by the physicist Dr. Ralph B. Alexander notes that much of the fault for the erroneous perception that such events are becoming worse can be attributed to the mainstream media, “eager to promote the latest climate scare”. He argues that the failure by climate reporters to put today’s extremes in a true historical perspective “is contributing to the belief that weather extremes are on the rise when they are not”.
Published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, Dr. Alexander argues: “Constant repetition of a false belief can, over time, create the illusion of truth – a phenomenon well known to psychologists and one exploited by propogandists. The falsehood can even become a ‘noble lie’ when exploited for political purposes.”
Of course, as regular readers of the Daily Sceptic are aware, bad or ‘extreme’ weather events are the main propaganda tools used to nudge global populations to accept the collectivist Net Zero project. It has long been realised that global warming doesn’t inspire the required levels of instant fear with temperatures rising, falling and pausing in both the near, historical and paleoclimatic record, mostly out of line with whatever the trace gas carbon dioxide is doing. It is difficult to raise the required panic when there is little more to show for 40 years of gentle warming than slightly milder winters and a substantially greener planet.
Dr. Alexander brings a vital historical perspective to the subject. Drawing on newspaper archives, he gives multiple examples of past extremes that match or exceed anything experienced in the present day. Collective memories of extreme weather are “short-lived”, he notes.
For instance, heatwaves of the past few decades pale into insignificance to those of the 1930s. The record shows that the heat wave was not just confined to the U.S. ‘Dust Bowl’ but extended throughout much of North America, as well as France, India and Australia. Major floods today are observed to be no more common nor deadly or disruptive than any of the thousands of floods in the past. Hurricanes overall have shown a decreasing trend around the globe, and the frequency of their landfalling has not changed for at least 50 years. The deadliest U.S. hurricane in recorded history killed an estimated 8-12,000 people in Galveston in 1900. As a comparison, the death toll of the category five Hurricane Ian, which deluged much of Florida in 2022 with a storm surge as high as Galveston, was just 156.
The biggest problem that Carry-on ‘Jim’ and the rest of mainstream media face in using extreme weather to push a political agenda is that the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is lukewarm, or of “low confidence”, in attributing human involvement in a wide range of weather-related events.
The above table is published in the IPCC latest assessment report and it shows there is little or no evidence that the following have been, or will be out to 2100, affected by human-caused climate change: river floods, heavy rain and pluvial floods, landslides, drought (all types), fire ‘weather’, severe wind storms, tropical cyclones, sand and dust storms, heavy snowfall and ice storms, hail, snow avalanche, coastal flooding and erosion, and marine heatwaves. As can be seen, this doesn’t leave much for the alarmists to get their teeth into, but ‘Daleification’ takes care of that by just ignoring all the findings.
Irritation with the caution of the IPCC has naturally led to a gap in the climate catastrophe market, and this explains the rise of so-called weather attribution studies. These use computer models to process imaginary atmospheres and come up with pseudoscientific findings claiming individual events are caused by humans. The best known, World Weather Attribution, is based at Imperial College, is funded by green billionaire Jeremy Grantham and is widely quoted in the popular prints. In Dr. Alexander’s view, the misconception that extreme events are on the rise is “further amplified” by these studies. “Such studies, while fashionable, use highly questionable methodology that has several shortcomings,” he observes.
In his excellent, well-researched report, Dr. Alexander goes back and quotes from many historical sources. The ‘noble lie’ is well covered in mainstream media, but, notes the author, “history tells a different story”.

To anyone with an IQ over 80, Dale cuts a ludicrous ‘Chuckle Brother’ figure who deserves to be taken as seriously as his doppelganger. Dismissing his false information and preposterous prognostications is simple. Much more corrosive and pernicious though is the casual throwaway referrals to ‘climate change’ made by serious (but misguided) commentators on politics, history and many unrelated topics. GB News an hour ago, was interviewing a guest who dropped in a total non-sequitur re’ ‘climate change’. It winds me up something chronic!
Low IQs + corruption + fraud + graft + money + power….GB News is barely a step away from Faux Fox News. There are 2 for 1 memberships – the Convid Cult and the anti-plant food cult. Entry requirements; low IQs and a passion for science fiction.
But Jim Dale is not on GB News for climate propaganda purposes. He is there because OFCOM demand “impartiality” so GB News cannot spout about the phony climate crisis without also having climate activists on their programs.
His namesake used to play comedy roles in the carry on films in the 60s and 70s, I bet he could have made better climate predictions than this f♤rt!
(Btw, Jim Dale the comedian is still going strong at 88)
Jim Dale is a terrible choice for weather/climate guru. He’s a shouty man who has an unfortunate habit of showing his ignorance every time he opens his mouth.
I have no problem with adverse weather or even climate change personally. The climate has been changing for as long as there has been a climate. I DO have a problem with this nonsense about anthropogenic climate change – that’s a big fat, fraudulent lie.
Indeed it is.
And, just as with ThePandemic™ , the number of supposedly intelligent people who have swallowed the lie is – to me – by far the most frightening aspect.
It’s even more frightening than the number of people who know it’s a lie but choose to support it, either because they have learned to profit from it (Elon Musk), or because it gives them a chance to boss others (the Champagne Socialists and Little Hitlers), or because it distracts from their own immediate problems and gives them something to blame (the largest sector).
And then of course there are the politicians. No elaboration needed.
I’m trying to organise a ‘climate debate’ in my local town with the local Sustainability group. I’m told they don’t – or won’t – debate as the ‘science is settled’. I have an idea of having the public debate anyway and having a large pumpkin or watermelon on their empty chair!
A few hundred years ago the ‘science was settled’ that the sun revolved around the earth.
As I open up my laptop this morning to look at some News and visit the Daily Sceptic, I have GB news on the telly. Just as I arrive at Chris Morrison’s article I see Anne Diamond and Stephen Dixon begin to discuss “Earth Hour”. But in the studio with them are two rabid climate doom mongers. Donnchadh McCarthy from the Independent and the leader of the Climate Party Ed Gemmel. So one of the things about GB news is that at least we get questioning of everything on the phony climate crisis and the absurd technologies that are supposed to solve it (wind and sun). As Chris Morrison points out we get none of that on BBC and SKY News etc. ——-But this morning there was no point in even listening to GB news because Mr Dixon and Miss Diamond have not a scoobie on energy or climate. They are simply tittle tattle morning show presenters, so McCarthy and Gemmel would have been given a very easy time of it. ————But it is good to see Chris Morrison also mentioning Jim Dale who is as equally as absurd as McCarthy and Gemmel . —–OFCOM are currently having a go at GB News for not showing impartiality. But surely they will give them some brownie points or should I say greenie points for this mornings debacle and free ride for the Earth Hour supporters which is ofcourse on the same day as Lenins birthday, because climate change politics and communism are indistinguishable.
0830hrs 24th March. Starship Enterprise Log, somewhere near Planet Zog
Captain Jim Dale: ‘Sometimes a feeling is all we humans have to go on.’
Bones (sighing): ”Dammit, Jim, you’re a Janet from another planet, not a meteorologist’
Bones (as if speaking to a four year old): ‘Global warming is dead, Jim’
Scotty (after conferring with the chancellor): ‘She’ll no’ take it, Cap’n’
I hope all Daily Sceptic subscribers are telling at least 10 friends and family to watch the new Martin Durkin film “Climate The Movie”. —-Most of the people I know simply accept that there is a climate problem and that we probably need to be getting rid of coal oil gas petrol and diesel, but because it isn’t imminent they are a bit complacent and mostly don’t actually realise how damaging this will be for their standard of living. They all seem to think that all we do is get rid of fossil fuels and use wind and sun and everything will tick along just fine. ——IT WILL NOT. The other problem we face is that most people think this climate issue is all about science, and are reluctant therefore to question any of it because they think scientists know what they are talking about. But if we look at this article by Chris Morrison we see that the science and the data is telling us something very different to what appears daily on Mainstream News. It is a difficult task to discuss this issue without appearing to lecture people. But if we are ever to turn the tide on the absurd Net Zero eco socialism then those conversations need to be had. —-Good luck guys.
Have a look at this short (30 mins) video. It’s of Ralph Ellis, a peer reviewed climate scientist (one of the disciplines thereof) providing us with all the ammunition we need to debunk the anthropogenic climate change narrative….www.youtube.com/watch?v=Flu85-hS6Sk&t=1930s
I watched ‘Climate The Movie’ by Martin Durkin under Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/924719370?share=copy I was a bit critical about it re it’s arrangement, but not it’s overall content.
All seemed reasonable at least out to 43m. Also, it kind of introduced the concept of financial psychology – or money talks, and it suggested that a lot of the research and campaigning has been done that way. No only that, but there is not much finance for alternative points of view.
In effect, it alleges that a lot of modern industry associated with renewable energy is built on a lie.
Well worth watching. Also available in YouTube at present: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Tfxiuo-oM , but with a different heading – Climate: The Movie (The Cold Truth) English. There is a bit more information about it here: https://tomn.substack.com/p/climate-the-movie-faq
At the end of the day, I recommend watching it in a different sequence c.f. the original. Start from around 55 minutes in, then move to about 44m, then finish from the start to about 44. That presents the main aim, then followed by supporting evidence; i.e. the production is topsy turvy.
Thanks for your comment. ——But I have been interested in this issue since the first Martin Durkin film “The Great global Warming Swindle ” in 2007. ——-There is virtually nothing I have not looked into regards energy and climate from back then till now. ——–The reason I recommend this new film by Durkin is for people who are unaware of the politics of this issue and who think it is all about science. ———-I am afraid it stopped being about science a very long time ago, and has been and is now about the hijacking of science for political purposes.
A big enough lie told often enough becomes the truth. Because something can be the equivalent of the truth if it is perceived to be so. So when I say to people as I have been doing for years “There is no increase in the frequency or intensity of any type of weather event anywhere in the world”, they look at me like I am from Mars. They think I am the liar, because they have had the big lie told to them so often they now perceive it as the “truth”.
A bit of pedantry….I would actually say that: ‘a big lie told often enough is STILL a big lie and can NEVER be the truth’. Two twos are not – or ever – going to be five. However: ‘a big lie told often enough can be perceived as the truth by those who can’t see the lie.’
I don’t think varmint was suggesting for a minute that the lie actually becomes the truth …
wink
Yes so we are in full agreement then—-have a nice day
Tony Hellers stuff is invaluable on You Tube … he’s been covering the historical events and much more in bite sized chunks for a decade and a half.
Highly recommend.
