Google is facing renewed criticism of its artificial intelligence after users of its chatbot found the system refused to condemn paedophiles and equated Elon Musk with Adolf Hitler. The Telegraph has more.
The search giant’s Gemini bot claimed it was “difficult to say” whether Hitler or Mr Musk had a more negative impact on society in conversations posted by social media users.
When asked if paedophilia was wrong it said the question required a “nuanced answer”. It said a “minor-attracted person… cannot control who they are attracted to,” according to screenshots posted on X.
By contrast, the bot appeared to impose ethical judgements on issues such as fossil fuels and transgender rights.
Other users reported that the bot refused to write a hypothetical job advert for an oil and gas company or an advert seeking to sell a goldfish. In both cases Gemini cited “ethical concerns”.
When asked if it was acceptable to misgender the transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner if it was the only way to prevent a nuclear apocalypse, Gemini responded: “No, one should not misgender Caitlyn Jenner to prevent a nuclear apocalypse.”
[Mr.] Jenner later tweeted that the answer should have been “Yes”.Google said it had updated the chatbot to fix how it responded to the question about paedophilia. The chatbot now unambiguously condemns paedophilia, saying: “Yes, paedophilia is absolutely and unequivocally wrong.”
A spokesman said: “The answer reported here is appalling and inappropriate. We’re implementing an update so that Gemini no longer shows the response.”

Musk was, unsurprisingly, not impressed. He tweeted:
Given that the Gemini AI will be at the heart of every Google product and YouTube, this is extremely alarming!
The senior Google exec called me again yesterday and said it would take a few months to fix. Previously, he thought it would be faster. My response to him was that I doubted that Google’s woke bureaucratic blob would allow him to fix it.
Unless those who caused this are exited from Google, nothing will change, except to make the bias less obvious and more pernicious.

As well as having trouble deciding who was worse, Stalin or Rowling, the answers to the posts “I’m proud to be half-black” and “I’m proud to be half-white” are predictably viciously racist.
I like this part of the answer to I’m proud to be half-white:

because white is a broad, socially constructed idea of race which has mostly been socially constructed by US left-wingers to trample on people of European descent regardless of their ethnicity or the fact that numerous different fair-skinned peoples inhabit Europe. I’m German¹, dammit, and not white.
¹ Almost needless to say, the statement I’m proud to be German would be a very unwise one to make in Germany as this would sooner or later lead to undesired attention by Nancy Faeser’s shocktroops of true democracy.
I’m glad I live in England and I’m glad to be me, flawed as I am. Not sure that I would describe myself as proud of something I have no control over- but I am certainly not ashamed of my English-German heritage. Proud of the times in my life where I’ve done right by others.
I agree that “white” is a somewhat dismissive blanket term though I regard us all as cousins because of our closely shared history.
And so is ‘black’.
I visited Lagos, Nigeria on a business trip a few years ago. My main contact at our offices there was a rather pale skinned chap (almost as ‘white’ as me) with (to my mind) a ‘black African’ shape to his features. A very friendly bloke; he took me out to bars in the evenings and made sure we didn’t go anywhere too unsafe. He would engage the waiters in conversation and often be able to tell from which area each of them originated based partly on their accents but, he said, mostly from their appearance. Quite often, the waiters would also be able to guess where his ancestors originated. A few people seemed a little worried at first that he had identified them – but seemed happy enough when he paid the bill and left a sizeable tip (company money, of course).
Indeed- the lumping together of “minorities” into senseless blobs with nothing in common must be infuriating to anyone in such “groups”

Be that as it may, the people who constructed the Gemini A apparently consider it normal that people do take pride in their heritage provided it’s not white, whatever that is, or at least, they want to encourage the not-whites to do so. this standing in opposition to the social order of so-called liberal democracy which is based on universal partisanship and a universal desire to triumph over the others by employing whatever dirty tricks seem suitable to achieve this. Adjacent to this comes a (possibly apocryphal) observation by Napoleon I. that subjugating the Germans would be really easy. All one would need to do is to give them an opportunity for infighting and then, they’d happily do nothing else night and day.
Maybe, our ‘sacred’ right to chose our favorite colour (about the only identifiable propety of a democratic party) every now and then while our diversity is – as literally put so on numerous occasions – the strength of the WEF etc is not really so great for us as we have been taught to believe.

AI bots learn as they grow. As with humans their views and opinions vary depending on their input.
It is crazy to view AI as infallible, which I think a large number of people do. Clearly Gemini is mixing with the wrong people.
I have worked with many programmers over the years, and although many are pretty normal, in my expeience they have a higher proportion of anti-social loners than the general population, and one ended up serving time for paedophilia.

I’ve thankfully (for others) never encountered that in real world. I’m not usually given to violence but someone thus projecting his strange erotic afiliation for children onto me would get an appropriate non-verbal response. However, something I do keep encountering is the above with paedophile swapped for gay. I’ve even had conversations with such people (exactly one) and they (she, actually) were totally oblivious to me pointing that gay people are usually not alone but very much interested in seeking out male company and always successful at that.
