A multi-millionaire Hollywood director who funds Just Stop Oil has a holiday home in Ireland – 5,000 miles from Los Angels – that he jets off to when he needs a break. The Daily Mail has more.
A Hollywood director helping to bankroll Just Stop Oil has been accused of hypocrisy over his lavish holiday home in Ireland – 5,000 miles from his Los Angeles base.
Oscar winner Adam McKay, whose films include The Big Short and Don’t Look Up, is one of a group of multi-millionaires behind the Climate Emergency Fund.
The Beverly Hills-based fund raises cash from its mega rich supporters and distributes it to ‘disruptive’ activists, including handing almost £1million to help Just Stop Oil wreak havoc in the U.K.
Mr. McKay is a director of the fund and has donated over £3.2 million to it to support “recruitment and training” for groups including the British activists.
In a webinar last year he pledged to help Just Stop Oil in any way possible and was even prepared to be arrested for their cause.
Despite his financial commitment to environmentalism the director, who owns a £6 million Los Angeles home, has described how he holidays in his eight-bedroom second home in rural Ireland.
A 2020 Architectural Digest interview with Mr McKay and his wife, fellow writer-director Shira Piven, described how “when the going gets tough” the couple “take refuge in their 12-acre getaway in the Celtic countryside”.
Details of his holiday home emerged as Just Stop Oil zealots were last week branded “absolute morons” for permanently damaging a sustainable garden at the Chelsea Flower Show by hurling orange powder paint over it.
The group were also criticised for a series of go-slow marches in London this week which caused mayhem for commuters – and on one occasion led to a workman being handcuffed by police as he tried to move them.
The Climate Emergency Fund launched in 2019 after the three founders’ multi-million-pound homes in the exclusive Californian ocean-front city of Malibu nearly burnt down in bush fires which they blamed on climate change.
These included Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of billionaire oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty, and Rory Kennedy who is the daughter of Senator Robert Kennedy.
The third founder, investor Trevor Neilson who is listed as owning a £2.1 million home in Malibu, said they wanted to support “disruptive activists” after becoming disillusioned by the slow approach of traditional environmental groups.

Stop Press: Keir Starmer is under pressure to return a £1.5 million donation to the Labour Party from one of Just Stop Oil’s main backers.

Profanity and abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.
He needs an ‘H’ for hypocrite branded on his forehead.
Not at all. I bet this guy is leading a completely carbon-neutral live according to the consultants he has paid for arranging that. The problem are disgusting poor people who drive cars and heat their homes in winter. They must be stopped before they destroy the planet!
NB: I don’t claim that this is true. But some rich moron whose only problem in life ever was getting rid of the accumulated interest of his inherited fortune before it buries him may well honestly believe that it’s true.
Effectively he is financing crime and should be arrested. However, as an American citizen he is virtually untouchable. Even here, there is no political will to stop these illegal protests – quite the opposite, many would say. If there really were a political will, the best angle would be to stop the funding.
Do as I say not as I do has to be one of the oldest hypocrisies known to man.
Indeed, some may counter that hypocrisy is “the tribute that vice pays to virtue”, but these folks don’t even TRY to practice even one iota of what they preach at all!
What a massive tw#t!
Missed irony: if the people they finance to set fires to blame on climate change had burnt down their homes! if only
Agreed Dinger. The guy is just one of many ”do as I say not as I do” nobheads.
No surprise there. We knew JSO were well funded, not some grassroots activists with real conviction but a well-kitted out group with their plastic (ahem) banners and synthetic (cough) hi-vis jackets and their ‘orders’ coming from above. Even these funders, McKay et al, will probably be getting THEIR orders from the people who fund them and their projects. It’s probably worth a look at the Executive Producers of ‘Don’t Look Up’ because that was a film with the same message. The co-writer of the film was David Sirota, a journalist/activist, who suggested the idea to McKay and who is heavily involved with the progressive left and who is deeply wedded to the idea of the climate crisis.
It’s telling that the funders’ homes ‘nearly’ burned down in the bushfires of 2019. And suddenly, lo and behold, they’re right behind the climate emergency crisis (also the same year that the phrase ‘climate emergency’ was used for the first time before being pushed out to all councils throughout the UK who all declared a ‘climate emergency’, having done all their research of course, NOT). Bushfires are not down to the climate but rather down to winds, dry brush, and a spark. Warm weather helps of course.
All in all, McKay is just another snake in a den of vipers all leading back to the people in the shadows.
Some countries make it hard for NGOs to operate. It must be possible to pass laws banning foreign entities from getting involved in UK politics and funding activism. If only there was the will.
Hint: real grassroots organisations get ignored by the MSM.
And real grassroots organisations don’t have two ha’pennies to rub together.
Indeed, these clowns are astroturf all the way.
‘The third founder, investor Trevor Neilson who is listed as owning a £2.1 million home in Malibu, said they wanted to support “disruptive activists…’
How does the support reach the activists? Are the slow marchers along the north circular on per diems? Do they submit expense claims (travel, paint, glue, etc)? Or are they salaried?
The best way to counter these people is to sow division among them. If some are getting more than others…
Adam McKay and his fellow New Age traveller Dale Vince squire of Ecotricity and Forest Green Rovers ensure that Just Stop Oil are well supplied with orange banners and paint. Come the revolution they will be some of the first up against the wall.
It’s important to keep this in mind: These people are not – as they like to claim – grassroots activists protesting in the name of some silent majority of concerned citizens, they’re astroturfers — mercenaries paid to fight a climate war against the general population which is incessantly bombarded with climate propaganda financed by the same groups of people in order to make them accept their political demands.
Jack Watson’s most recent article was also eye-opening in this respect — Why are 16 year olds supposed to get a right to vote? Because they have no life to worry about yet and have been drenched with climate activism theory ever since they first left the homes of their parents. They, of all people, will vote in the right way.
Indeed, they are paid astroturf agents provocateur.
FWIW, several countries (including Scotland and Wales) currently let 16 year olds vote without the sky somehow falling. I personally see nothing wrong with that. Of course, Jack Watson likely has political ulterior motives (i.e. to get more votes for the left). Then again, so do people like that fanatical Republican in the USA that wants to raise the voting age to 25, for the opposite political reason (i.e. to take votes away from their rivals, the Democrats). One can indeed be cynical about motives while still supporting an underlying issue all the same.
Ref Stop Press. Kier Starmer intensions of blocking all licenses for new abstraction of oil, gas, and probably coal is in line with the Just stop Oil mobs main mantra. A 1.5 million bung could indicate why he proposes such an intension. Is this an insidious alignment of purpose of both the Labour Party and Just Stop Oil? Most definitely possible, but more worryingly most probable.
More of an insidious alignment between people selling uncompetitive green solutions and politicians supposed to enable them doing so by enacting laws against the competition. Simply put: Labour is corrupt (and the Tories probably as well, with their COP dance routines). But that’s the bane of the so-called representative democracy because it’s not the people who rule it but the party elite. And party elites, by virtue of being perennial upstarts instead of a more traditional ruling class grounded in property, can always be bought.
Starmer and Crayons both accepted a £30k personal ‘donation’, as well as the £1.5m.
Who is “crayons?”
When the climate crisis alarmists start practicing what they preach, I might begin to consider taking them seriously. Apart from Greta Thunberg – who sailed to a United Nations Climate Crisis Summit in New York in 2019 – they are all flying all around the world, and many of them have more than one large house which they don’t need.
In the same year as the UN Climate Crisis Summit, the Obamas bought a $15 million beach house on the picturesque island of Martha’s Vineyard. I wonder how much it will be worth in ten years when sea levels have risen? Maybe the Obamas like pouring money down the drain.
If she and her father had flown both ways there’d have been 4 transatlantic flights.
If you believe she was actually on the boat all the way on the voyage out, there were 9: original 3 crew once each; replacement 3 crew once each; father twice and the goblin once.
The goblin flew back I believe.
Yes, that’s my “once”.
No more oil for Ireland . . .
More proof that JSO, XR, and their barking head mouthpieces in the media are a bunch of astroturf, jet-setting, oil-guzzling hypocrites.
The cognitive dissonance must be quite strong with the lot of them, lol. But given their apparently vast riches, I’m sure they spend a hefty sum (though likely chump change to them) on carbon indulgences (aka “offsets”) to soothe their aching consciences, right?
Beyonce is in London today and tomorrow. Will Just Stop Oil be protesting at this environmentally unnecessary activity that requires a vast amount of fossil fuel to transport a singer, entourage, wardrobe etc.? Or do celebrity influencers along with billionaires get a free pass?
These insufferable gits have to be called out at every opportunity.
Now we see a JSO doner gave £1.5m to Labour before Starmer announced an end to North Sea drilling. Corrupt tw@
Why aren’t these hypocrites called out in Parliament. Name and shame.
It gives them a meaning to life, especially those with no other religion.
