News Round-Up

28 April 2023 12:13 AM

  • “Jacinda Ardern to join Harvard University as dual fellow” – Apparently without irony, New Zealand’s former lockdown-friendly PM – who once proclaimed her Government to be the “single source of truth” for Kiwis regarding Covid – has been invited to Boston to study “ways to improve standards and accountability to combat extremist content posted online”, according to the BBC.
  • “Shawshank Redemption star rips lack of freedom of assembly and speech that Covid mandates brought” – Actor Tim Robbins held nothing back in a searing takedown of Government leaders who promoted COVID-19 lockdown policies in a recent interview, according to Fox News.
  • “Mathematical models – why we can’t trust them” – “Models are useful if we know them for what they are. I fear too many politicians and journalists let them pass too uncritically,” says Dr. David Whitehouse in TCW.
  • “Slowest ever start to Covid vaccine drive – Is Britain bored of boosters?” – Just one million doses were dished out in the first three weeks of the NHS spring booster campaign, which is inviting five million care home residents and over-75s for a top-up jab, reports MailOnline.
  • “How a wave of lockdown depression is driving Britain’s £40 billion sickness timebomb” – Britons’ mental health was in decline even before the pandemic. Then came Covid, with its lockdowns and social isolation. The number of people struggling exploded, reports the Telegraph.
  • “Criticising China’s Covid lockdowns is ‘microaggression’, university tells staff” – University of Surrey facing revolt from lecturers who say it is policing conformity and “morally evaluating academics”, according to the Telegraph.
  • “The Washington Post whitewashes the Covid response” – In Brownstone, Bill Rice picks apart the Washington Post Editorial Board’s take on a review of America’s Covid response conducted by a team of “seasoned experts”.
  • “Exploding the myth that Covid jabs protect against death in two charts” – The public health industry relies on bad maths and worse data collection to argue the Covid shots work, says Alex Berenson.
  • “Why won’t someone stop them?” – Just Stop Oil zealots block an ambulance as they stage road stunts bringing London traffic to a halt, according to MailOnline.
  • “Net Zero has exposed the shocking neglect of rural Britain” – From rocketing petrol prices to imposed heat pumps, the impending nightmare the neediest rural communities face is clear, says Sally Jones in the Telegraph.
  • “Braverman to make it easier for police to arrest Just Stop Oil protesters” – Home Secretary to introduce new definition of “serious disruption” aiming to lower threshold at which officers can take action, reports the Telegraph.
  • “My blue tick humiliation” – In Toby’s latest Spectator column, he describes his horror when, shortly after he bought a Twitter blue tick, it ceased to be a status symbol and became the hallmark of a loser.
  • “Tory MP ‘uncancelled’ by Reading University students” – A decision by students at Reading University to deplatform James Sunderland for his views on immigration has been reversed, according to the Telegraph.
  • “Brexit has been vindicated and our dismal elites can’t bear to accept it” – A buck-passing establishment would rather blame Brexit for our many woes than accept its own responsibility, according to Allister Heath in the Telegraph.
  • “Sadiq Khan urged to ‘stick to day job’ after he makes another Brexit intervention” – The London Mayor is pressing Government to ease post-Brexit visa rules which he warns are putting off young Europeans from visiting the capital for work, education and tourism, reports the Express.
  • “It’s obvious to me that this is bad for us” – “Carlson was a major conduit via which unapproved views made it to mainstream television audiences,” says Eugyppius, in response to Tucker Carlson’s abrupt departure from the Fox News.
  • “A ‘trans genocide’ would be horrific if it were true” – But thankfully, it’s not. Trans people are not under threat. In fact, they are no more at risk of being killed than non-trans people, says John Mac Ghlionn in Spiked.
  • “Fears over ‘woke’ code of conduct” – Lawyers say requiring managers to snitch over rule breaches is a step too far, reports the Times.
  • “The growing consumer revolt against woke ideology” – The public is finally fighting back. Jeffrey A. Tucker reckons the Bud Light boycott signifies a larger social shift in the Epoch Times.
  • “The once-great Edinburgh University is damaging itself with its ridiculous stance on trans ideology” – “With a heavy heart, I suspect the only way to make the authorities act is a damaging boycott by female students,” writes Judith Woods in the Telegraph.
  • “The iron law of the universe: True things prevail” – Tucker Carlson speaks for the first time since his departure from Fox News. His short piece to camera has gone viral on Twitter, with more than 65 million views and counting.
