“No Flying by 2050”: Is the World Finally Waking Up to What Net Zero Really Means?

by Dr Norman Fenton
13 April 2023 11:42 AM

Two days ago I posted what I thought would be quite an innocuous twitter thread about the implications of the U.K. Government’s target of ‘Net Zero’ by 2050.

1. Reminder of what ‘net zero’ really means. This graphic from UK Govt FIRES project. Key points: all airports except Heathrow, Belfast & Glasgow to close by 2030. NO FLYING at all by 2050. No new petrol/diesel cars by 2030; by 2050 road use restricted to 60% of today’s level. pic.twitter.com/0s0dI9kAHK

— Prof Norman Fenton (@profnfenton) April 9, 2023

Specifically, I showed this graphic from the U.K. Government-funded FIRES project that summarised its recommended necessary strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2050 based only on evolutionary technological developments (the report it’s from has been around since 2021 and I’ve even posted about it before).

Now, for clarification ‘Net Zero’ means total greenhouse gas emissions (including methane) must be less than their removals (such as from planting trees). The FIRES report instead focused on an absolute zero target because they recognise the absence of novel revolutionary scalable technologies for 1) capture and removal of these gases and 2) non-fossil fuel mass transportation and energy production. In other words, if you realistically want to achieve the Net Zero target by 2050 you essentially have to go for absolute zero.

My twitter thread highlighed the eye-watering points that the strategy required:

  • All airports in the U.K. except Heathrow, Belfast and Glasgow to close by 2030.
  • No flying at all by 2050.
  • No new petrol or diesel cars by 2030.
  • By 2050 road use restricted to 60% of today’s level.
  • Food, heating and energy restricted to 60% of today’s level by 2050.
  • Beef and lamb to be phased out by 2050.

I said that, apart from the extreme limitations on personal freedom and travel, this means either a colder, hungrier population or massive depopulation.

Within less than 24 hours the tweet had amassed well over three million impressions (by far the highest I’ve ever achieved).

And, whereas three years solid work undertaking Covid data analysis and exposing the manipulation and flaws of the entire ‘official’ narrative had never led to a single mainstream media article or interview, I was invited on to Laura Ingraham’s popular Fox News show last night to speak about this.

(The interview was actually pre-recorded an hour before it was aired and quite a lot of what I said for context, such as the Covid lockdown trial run and new technology challenges, didn’t make the cut.)

So, although the FIRES report is not new it seems that finally people are waking up to the lunacy of the Government’s Net Zero target and why it is doomed to fail (as explained by Professor Michael Kelly).

But it’s still a surprise that it is a surprise to so many. All of this is consistent with UN/WEF Agenda 21, the UN ‘World at 2050′ agenda, and the WEF Great Reset with its ‘Build Back Better’ in which you’ll “own nothing and be happy”, and eat bugs instead of meat. Of course ’15 minute cities’ now being pushed everywhere are key to all of this (everything that’s happening now in that respect and how it fits into Agenda 21 was explained in Rosa Koire’s 2011 book). As I said in 2021, the Covid lockdowns were always going to be the precursor for climate lockdowns.

Until he retired in January, Norman Fenton was Professor in Risk Information Management at Queen Mary University of London. This article first appeared on Where Are the Numbers? Subscribe here.

Well if you form part of the Billy class you can always do a bit of carbon off-setting to assuage your debt to the planet for your frequent trips around the globe.

(My view of “carbon off-setting” appears in the NR).

Britain and Europe will be part of the new third world grubbing for a miserable existence from farming resources depleted by soil exhaustion and rewilding, whilst the BRICS nations forge ahead enjoying international travel and exotic foods, occasionally sending aid to poor Europeans.
The USA will have been swamped by immigration from the South and the new South America leaning government will have redefined itself as a BRICS nation. California will have declared itself as a kingdom, ruled by Queen Meghan and Harry, the king consort.
Canada will be left whimpering in the cold. looking enviously south over the new triple layer anti-immigrant fence based on Trump’s original design for the southern border.

The point is that this grouping of nations is building an economic bloc to challenge the almighty dollar. They are currently discussing the creation of their own currency for this purpose which will allow them and all other willing nations to trade independently in what I like to call the gold Bric.

There is no need to challenge. In the old zero sum world of empires this would make sense. The modern industrial world is not zero sum as it is demonstrably additive, which means it is possible for all the world to prosper in spite of what Paul Ehrlich imagines will happen. None of his imagined disasters have happened.

In addition there is this fixation that the West is an hegemony. It’s not as it has been easy for countries to economically compete against the US such as Korea, Taiwan, Germany, and the BRIC nations. The more countries that industrialise and become wealthy the better.

If you mention this to the normtards you are met with disbelief. There is no ‘Great Reset’ they vomit. Stop it with your doom conspiracy gibberish they admonish.

All of the facets outlined by Mr Fenton are well in train and under way. It is quite something that a single tweet of his had 3.2 million views.

I love Mr Fenton’s inteview with Faux News. He said that most of the context and anything on Rona was edited out. Just ridiculous.

(The interview was actually pre-recorded an hour before it was aired and quite a lot of what I said for context, such as the Covid lockdown trial run and new technology challenges, didn’t make the cut.)

I always maintain, if you get on an aeroplane, you don’t genuinely believe in so-called climate change and net zero. And all the weekend papers advertising best long haul, short haul, holiday destinations don’t genuinely believe it either, despite their climate doom articles in the main section.
Very few people genuinely believe it but very few speak out.

That’s if you subscribe to the view that commercial aviation should be the ‘climate change’ whipping boy, contributing as it does to less than 1% of co2 emissions ( and of course further believe that co2 causes climate change)

I had not seen this graphic before and its contents are genuinely shocking .
Nobody actually voted for this crap only supporting some kind of fluffy do no harm kind of Greenwash.
Well if these are the facts then we need action.
At a minimum a referendum, yes I know , on a fully explained , costed and documented detail of all aspects of this Goverments and ,god help us , the Liemore party plans .

If that does not happen I think a tipping point is almost upon us as people begin to awake and take action .
If you think the ULEZ protests are great then this will be nationwide and a lot more nasty as its attacking our basic way of life and livings .
The FuXXtards and the Blob have no idea what they are stoking up .
All for nothing on a crap set of modelling assumptions !
The BRICS are already laughing at the West and they will carry regardless of what the UK does .Leading the world ..into the abyss .You cannot make this up…
And yes I am getting mildly annoyed now !!!

You say “Nobody voted for this crap”, but I am sure Net Zero was in the manifesto’s of each major party. The public it is true were never consulted and no politician ever asked any questions about how much it would all cost and what benefit it would be to the global climate or to the well being and prosperity of the voters, and it was simply waved through. ——-So this means that every politician of every major party is complicit in this “crap”. None of them questioned it. ————- NONE.——–So unless there is an uprising and people in the UK don’t seem to do uprisings, then we will be getting every bit of this “crap”.

The really interesting bit from the Twitter graphic is that all use of road or waterways transport for trade has to cease as well. In other words, CO2-anything-zero is a pipe dream or – more likely – a scam to funnel taxpayer money into otherwise hopeless technology products. There’s no reason to be afraid of this ‘project’ because demanding that millions of people in densely populated areas are to go hungry from now on – unless they can eat cake, presumably – has never gone done well with these people themselves.

Re “a scam to funnel taxpayer money…”
I’m waking up to this now…
We’re being exploited and looted on a ginormous scale.
’Our’ governments are being colonised by lackeys who are setting us up to be robbed and demoralised with all sorts of taxpayer-funded scams.
The recent Covid scam, with billions and billions of pounds squandered on worse than useless injections, testing, PPE, electronic surveillance, plus destruction of small business and individual enterprise.
And then to think of what is being spent on ‘climate change’ and ‘defence’…
Wow! It’s breathtaking to consider the treachery being committed against us.
When are the culprits going to be brought to account?

The problem you/we have is that a large amount of people believe these steps to be absolutely needed and perfectly justified to prevent “catastrophic damage to the earth” etc etc. I know many lefties who genuinely believe it’s completely necessary.

Water simply doesn’t run uphill, no matter how many people genuinely believe it really should. If this the only plan to save to world, then, it is unfortunately doomed. OTOH, people who come up with something like this and actually believe it’s workable must have a pretty faint grasp of reality and hence, their predicted doom will very likely not materialize.

The best bit is really (paraphrase) As it’s impossible to run freight ships without some sort of combustion motor, all use of ships for transporting stuff must cease!

So?

You also find a lot of intelligent people who are busy with work and family life and don’t have the time to investigate every single issue. I try where possible to make people aware how important this NET ZERO stuff is regarding their well being and prosperity without preaching but it is not easy, because when people are busy in their life they tend to get their information from the 6 o’clock News on BBC or SKY NEWS and ofcourse these channels are simply climate change activists. People seem to think that Investigative Journalists working for these channels have done the investigating of the issue for them and are presenting them with their findings. ——But as you and I and most people passing comment on this website know, this is not the case, and these channels simply report the “Official Science” emanating from political bodies like the IPCC as if it were all ultimate truth and they question NOTHING. —-This leaves the people too busy to thoroughly investigate for themselves misinformed, and more likely to accept huge changes imposed on them and the resultant lowering of their living standards.—————What is therefore required is a News Channel presenting information such as we see in this article. I had hoped GB news would be doing that but although they do question a lot of the climate change narrative, they do not in my opinion go far enough. ——But with OFCOM looking over their shoulder perhaps it isn’t so easy as Mark Steyn found out.

We have doctors who think that the mRNA goo are traditional vaccines and that vaccines can’t ever have long term side effects, public health officials who are not aware that the Pfizer trials showed more serious illnesses in the goo arm than in the placebo group and climate change experts who are off by a factor of 100 with regard to CO2s share of the atmosphere and none of them willing to correct their assessment after they have been made aware of their errors.
https://madhavasetty.substack.com/p/a-convenient-lie
So count me out from being surprised of experts, politicians, journos or the public’s similar ignorance and refusal to correct.
We are dealing with cults. Their evil high priests and their dumb foot soldiers.

Re:

“As I said in 2021, the Covid lockdowns were always going to be the precursor for climate lockdowns.”

Check out the language used in this article about a cyclone in Western Australia:

“People in the path of Severe Tropical Cyclone Ilsa have been ordered to take shelter immediately after it intensified into a powerful category five system ahead of its final charge towards Western Australia’s northern coastline.” (My emphasis.)

People being ‘ordered’ to take shelter…
When people are warned about a dangerous weather situation, they can use their own common sense to take protective action. We don’t need governments ordering us about and demanding we submit to ever-increasing interference in our lives.

Do you have these national warning alerts for stuff like this in your part of the world? Whereby you get alerts on your mobiles if something such as a natural disaster, fire etc happens…The only time I’ve ever been alerted was for a fire but it was miles away. Just curious which other countries have it as they’re starting it up in the UK. Had it for years in the NL but not sure about other EU countries tbh..🤔

It occurred to me that the Germans have tried to accomplish this by employing submarines against the English merchant navy in two wars in the last century, although only with mixed success. That people reportedly working for the UK government now plan to implement the same to save the planet was interesting to learn.

It was annoying to get moths flying around your bedroom but now you hardly get them at all and that is far worse. The whole situation, since the Great Poisoning started should’ve been a wake-up call long ago. Not many people have intuited the great posoning. Trust me by this time next year this will be an old time religion. Reality trumps everything. If you wonder how western elites think then the truth is very shallow and nasty. Ultimately self-destructive. I hold out hope for everyone but I know that in a couple of years time there won’t be a tenth of the human population of the earth left alive. The elites will be long gone and so will everything else.

By 1968 they decided that the global population didn’t suit their ends. Plato said it 2500 years before. All it means is that in terms of system analysis they prefer smaller global populations because they are easier to control. We shouldn’t be easy to control. I genuinely believe that we have moved forward in this way. Our planet has so much to offer don’t let them convince you otherwise.

As all international travel will be prohibited, effectively imprisoning the inmates of the U.K., ‘happily’ segregated in our 15 minutes cities / towns, why the ongoing imposition by stealth of vaccine passports or whatever term the ‘permits’ are known as?

All over the western world and in the UK in particular people are mostly unaware what NET ZERO really means. I think most people think “Well there is a climate emergency and so we must stop using petrol, diesel, coal and gas and stick up wind turbines and solar panels and everything will tick along just fine”————–NO IT WON’T. ——There is no “Climate Emergency”. —-The idea that there is one is based entirely on worst case scenario’s from un-validated speculative models that most of the general public who tune into Kay Burley or the BBC for their News think is “Science”. ——–Models are not “Science”. Just as a calculator is not mathematics. —- But it isn’t as if people could vote for a party that doesn’t want to impose this NET ZERO eco socialism on us, because all major parties are in on this scam. NET ZERO was waved through parliament with not a single question asked as to cost/benefit or the effect on the living standards and wellbeing of the population. ——-Availability and cost of energy is what gives the standard of living the wealthy west currently has and our own politicians are complicit in the removal of that energy and for replacing it with expensive unreliable energy which only means one thing. ——-A very big fall in living standards. One of the best examples is Gas Central heating. This is the best central heating we have ever had. It cannot be overestimated how important this is to people in cold northern hemisphere countries like the UK. But silly government energy policies around carbon emissions are forcing millions into energy poverty and leaving old and vulnerable people cold in their own houses all because our politicians insist there is a “climate crisis”. They want to fob people off with hugely inefficient and costly heat pumps and rip out our central heating all at unimaginable expense and all for NOTHING. Just so the UK government can pander to this globalist idea of a “climate emergency” for which not a shred of evidence exists. ————Remember that the next time you switch on BBC or SKY NEWS and their “Climate Show”. Everything they are telling you as a LIE. ——–The emergency comes from modelling NOT from science and all of their fanciful models have so far been totally WRONG. ——You are being played.
